i'm hearing from a friend with good Liverpool contacts that Sneijder to them has taken a step closer

presume we won't compete with them wages wise

I think M'Villa would be a smashing signing. Young and lots of upside. Moreover, great cover for Sandro, at a price we can afford, while the Beast is hibernating. But do you know what's even more smashing? The fact that I'm going to the game tomorrow!!!! Ah, hell yeah!!

Is that step the that they are going to win the Premier League based on the fact they beat Norwich 5-0. As it usually is with Liverpool fans.

One thing that has disappointed me about Gomes is that he is reportedly more interested in sitting on his arse than going elsewhere and taking a pay cut.

wasnt he busting a gut to move back to PSV early last season and harry/club said no. Think Harry said he was needed, but it's probably likely PSV didnt want to pay the price Levy set.

Since then I think Gomes has is of the opinion of 'well ill just sit here and collect my wages then till the end of the contract'

from what i can gather they are the only PL team to show any interest in paying him the kind of money he wants. and he does seem to want the PL

Surely getting M'Vila should be contingent on getting at least Jenas and Huddlestone off the wage bill? I don't see the point of getting in someone who will sit on the bench and pick up £50k a week or so, if all he's going to be doing is warming the seat previously bent out of shape by Huddlestone. Especially since when Sandro is back, M'Vila becomes 4th choice for two places. If he's being brought in as the long-term successor to Parker or as Dembele's understudy it makes some sense, but again only if the two players mentioned above are gone first.

how come??

More snow predicted. I mentioned in the United thread that we called off a game a couple of years ago due to the icy conditions creating a safety risk for fans. The pitch could be flawless but if the streets are deemed to be dangerous then the club could well decide to postpone it.

Honestly M'Vila makes a shedload of sense but not as somebody that will put us into the top 3 this year. Get him and he plays superbly and you take a 6-8 million transfer and turn him around to a 15-20 by this time next year. If we can get him to mature.
.

If say we do turn him around to a 15-20 Mill midfielder, Why would you then think he wasn't good enough for a top 3 team ? I know price doesn't always mean quality but that would represent a double in price, surely with that price jump he'd be at least be good enough to be a squad player for a top 3 team.

Thing is, he wouldn't take the pay cut at Inter so why would he take it to move to the PL???

Snow over Home Counties from 9am tomorrow, so would expect plenty around the Lane.
Any common sense and there will have been plenty of gritting/salting the area today.

Regardless of our asking price, I'm not sure that PSV can match his wage demands. And then there's this-

Palmeiras president Arnaldo Tirone has revealed that they came close to signing goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Brazilian club's chief claims that they could not afford to pay the wage the 31-year-old demanded.

"Gomes was offered to us but the negotiations didn't work out," Tirone told Lancenet. "His salary is very high.

"It's similar to what happened regarding Julio Cesar (who left Inter Milan for Queens Park Rangers in the summer)."

Unless M'vila completely screwed up/played dreadfully, his value would pretty much instantly increase after joining us. Just by signing for a bigger club who have a stronger positioning in the market, for an undervalued fee, and going on a bigger contract etc etc his value has effectively already automatically increased. We might be able to sign him for 8m odd from Rennes, but unless he was complete dog shit for us, no other club would be able to force us to sell for anywhere near that price. The way it is right now, players are commodities and collateral, with their value being influenced by all the financial factors around them.

A member of my family is a road gritter (or whatever its called) and I have ITK on this. Levy has been haggling on the price of grit all day. It seems there are third party ownership issues of the grit and it's all very 'complicated'.......I'm told that to have any effect, grtting must start no later than 7am tomorrow morning. I'm also told to expect the deal to be done at 6.59 am.

I'm also informed that they have no idea how to get the gritting lorry onto the terraces to make sure they are clear too, but the club are considering using the unemployed to spread it by hand. Mssrs Jenas and Gomes are shitting themselves. Or gritting themselves if you prefer.

mvila at 9mil is an absolute bargain, no doubt. except he's not the first priority that we need to settle, and isnt the exact player we need for the top 3 push currently. he would be a luxury to have for our rotation, but creativity in the final third and 1 striker injury away from being fucked is our biggest problem and we need to address that first.

if we are able to get him without compromising the purchase of an attacker i'm all for it. but if you tell me buying mvila means we wont be able to get another attacker, i would much rather bring in an attacker instead.
