Now i dont want to put a downer on the great result last night and over the season so far, but if we do finish 4th and dont pass Arsenal (even if we do it will still effect abit) and with it also being a world cup year, some of our players will be out there and have played a hard season followed by the World cup and then maybe an early start to qqualify for the CL!

I think we have a big enough squad to cope but dont we normaly let players who played in the world cup extra time off meaning we may have a weaker team in the qualifying?

Last season the draw for the playoff stage of the qualifying rounds (where we'll be placed, if we ONLY (ha ha!) finish 4th) was on 7th August.

The games were then played on 18/19th and 25/26th August.

Meaning there's a decent break between the end of the World Cup and then.

The more worrying thing is that's exactly when the league will start... we'll have to start with a BANG!

Not worried about this just yet though!

also i am not sure if there will be a reshuffle of the wage structure of players. I really hope levy is able to keep the 70k wage cap

We do need to hit the ground running next season.

The players will just have to cope with the extra games. We've got a big squad, should be fine.

Thats good news then! thought it was before the season started, so as long as we start the season well and dont pick up any silly injuries we should be fine then

It's the same for the other teams aswell, I'm sure they've all got players going to the World Cup, plus if you look at our team Gomes, Kaboul, Bale, Modric, Pav, Bentley Hudd, Corluka, Krankjar are all going to have a great summer relaxing and getting ready for the Champions League.

Our world cup players look like this:

Dawson - should make the squad but unlikely to be in first team.

King - must make the squad and probably the first team, given his knee problem will mean he won't do much pre-season, but that's nothing new really.

Ekotto & Bassong - neither have played much for Cameroon although they must be mental not to use them both in the WC, probably the area we'll be most affected by.

Lennon - will get used, but i'm not sure if he'll be first choice every game.

Hudd - outside chance of him making the squad but i can't see him being too involved.

Palacios - will be playing every game, but he's had a rest for us the last few games and it shouldn't be too much of a problem for us.

Defoe & Crouch - unsure how much either of these two will be used, i doubt either will be starters.

He's still touch and go for the squad although i reckon he'll make it now, but i can't see him getting a look-in unless Julio Cesar gets injured.

HR collects players, it's his fetish. There is no way we will not have a squad that won't be able to deal with it, that will be the first thing that will be covered. I expect a few squad signings in the summer along with a couple big names.

Anyone would've thunk that England are the only team competing in the World Cup, and that the other teams in the CL qualifying positions don't have international players who will be playing in the WC as well :bang:

Wow you totaly missed the point, no where did i say it was only england or that other teams wont have the same, well done on that give yourself a big clap... if you are capable!!

i was simply saying we normaly rest the players who have been at the world cup to give them more of a rest and thought the qualifiers were before the season started which someone has pointed out is at the start of the season so the worry of that isnt too bad now :bang:

It is a good job you don't want to put a downer on last night, 'ocs (definitely in my case) it won't work:razz:

Sorry, was there a serious question in there?

Come-on, 'Arry could play academy players seriously out of position and get results. He walks on water, y'know (that's why he wanted a home by the sea:wink:).

For a top 4 team, we don't have that many players in the WC.

So compared to the other teams, we are looking really good. Even the bulk of the ones going, are probably not going to start. (I would rather players get some England level training than too much crashing cars into trees this preseason)

When you look at Utd, Chelsea, City, Arse and Liverpool, they are going to be knackered come the start of the season.

FRINGE players and Croatia/Russia/Wales not qualifying FTW!

(I'm Welsh but silver linings and all that)

Plenty of players not involved, plus chances are whoever we draw in the qualifiers (assuming we finish 4th) will be subject to the same problem. I'm not going to worry about things like this for a few days! At least not until Sunday's finished.

He could get in the squad now, but he has no chance of displacing Julio Cesar, as you've asserted.
