Norrie recovered from two sets down to beat Zeppieri and get into R3.

He'll face Casper Ruud who also needed five sets against Aussie hope Max Purcell.

Sorry Brits, but I'm supporting Ruud here.

I was hoping Max got up, obviously! :cautious:

Lol.
Awesome.

King of the mullets.

Great comeback by Norrie, haven't seen the highlights yet but thankfully the 5 sets and multiple rain delays have meant we can watch the Raducanu game. She was struggling with the wind during the first set but has pulled herself together a bit in the 2nd. Got a tough battle on her hands though as Wang is a tough competitor who will fight all the way.

Would love to discuss more tennis but people on here seem to prefer discussing the weather or posting wordle pics.

Should we who watch it try to get it going a bit more during the aus open?

Has been a great start to this grand slam IMO, with most favourites losing sets and there has been loads of final set tiebreak deciders.

You can argue that it’s messed up that they are still playing at 03.15 local time but it’s good entertainment for a European viewer!

I don't understand why they decided to start the Medvedev match at 11:30, surely it would make more sense to move it to the next day.

That's what this thread is for :woot:

Post away to your hearts content, think most people (site wide) only take an interest during Wimbledon but there are a few of us that maintain an interest all year round.

Not much to get excited about in the night games tomorrow, expecting a few comfortable straight set victories but keeping my fingers crossed that Mannarino can make a fight of it against Shelton.

I have a theory that in the Oz Open the bounce is really true and a nice speed and it encourages big hitting - thinking maybe especially on the men's side here - by guys with not as much to lose as their higher ranked opponents. Teeing off on everything can "often" work for a set or two until the pressure comes on with the apparent opportunity of actually winning the match when everything tightens up and the purple patch fades.

Such solid clutch play by Ruud in the breaker. Thought Norrie had done enough to take a 2 set lead but he dug deep.

Shaping up to be a good battle this one, not much to separate the two.

Love the different challenges in each slam, I always see the Aus open as a test of endurance in extreme heat big hitting and great shot making.

Starting to think Ruud won't get back to his 2022 levels any time soon. Well done Norrie.

Probably Zverev next for him, which will be tough.

Anyone watching Rublev v De Minaur? Tough match and still anyone's even with Demon 2 sets to 1 up.

Helluva match. 6-0 in the fifth for Rublev but he was close to cramping at the end and right up to the last point there was still some doubt.

De Minaur is incredibly quick around the court.

Saw it up to end of the 3rd set then had to head out but looked like Rublev had the bigger weapons but De Minaur was fighting away well with the crowd behind him.

Was there an injury or a big tactical change to turn it around to a 6-0 in the decider?

Yeah I started watching it then went out to play tennis myself, to come back and see the final set. Seemed like De Minaur was just tired. At least in commentary they didn't mention an injury. Rublev just seemed to be hitting big on his forehand.

It's strange with Rublev because against most players that forehand looks massive, but against the very best it's not enough and as a result he ends up looking one-dimensional.

Have to admit De Minaur annoys me, but I think that's because I think about how he'd be to play, and he must be one of the most annoying players to face!

Not really, all the games were close; De Minaur might have slowed down a little - his serve wasn't penetrating - and Rublev was teeing off rather than letting the rallies go on too long, and it worked for him.

I admit I was surprised when De Minaur made the top 10 but he's a fighter and he's played really well since the start of the year. It'll be interesting to see if he can stay that high (I think he's 11 now, dropping below Fritz)
