“There’s no quitting in Paige Van Zant” - Michael Bisping as she taps

He’s had a few blunders tonight. Think he’s just trying too hard to be honest. If he lets it flow, he could be decent.

Fuck sake! How could the ref just let Aldo take a beating like that? He wasn't intelligently defending himself he was just too brave to quit. I'm all for giving a fighter a chance but that was shameful.

Judges are definitely going to rob Holloway here
Hahahaha called it. Takedowns are not everything and Volkanovski did nothing with most of them! Volkanovski won 4 and 5. 3 was closer but Max still won that round. Between boxing and UFC, the judging in combat sports is just embarrassingly awful.

It's weird. UFC used to be really good. The quality of the judging was one of the things that attracted me to the sport but in the last year or two it's gone downhill fast. Expecting a snooze fest for Usman v Masvidal.

Probs to him for taking this fight on 6 days notice but Usman is not a good oppoment for him.

Usman has done nothing to beat a guy who is fighting at 6 days notice... Usman will most likely win but masvidal is tanked and all I'm seeing are toe stamps haha.

It's a clever fight from him though. Masvidal is dangerous even in taking this fight at short notice, but Usman has really nullified him in the clinch. Don't blame him at all for his approach.

You guys seem to know way more. I don't have a clue whether what is going on is good or not. Was hoping for someone to beat someone up.

I liked the maxwell one before this one. The aldo one was also fairly decent

I thought Rounds 1-2 were clear for Holloway, and the same for Volkanovski for Rounds 4-5. It all comes down to the scoring of Round 3 then for me, and if a fight is being decided by a single round I find it hard to call it a robbery. I had Volkanovski edging Round 3, but it was so close and I wouldn't have been upset whichever way it went.

I can see why many during the cast would have been influenced by the unofficial strike stats shown on the production which had Holloway incorrectly ahead for most of the fight. Holloway is a real fan favourite which is were most of the "robbery" outcry is coming from online, but most of the UFC Pros that have posted also had it 3-2 to Volkanovski, even if a coin-flip.

Here is the Official strike stats for the fight. It's still pretty even, but the official numbers better align to how the judges ended up scoring the fight rather than how the commentators called it between rounds. Especially for Round 3 which in real-time I thought Volkanovski had edged it, but I was also second guessing it when the unofficial numbers were coming up between rounds.

Holloway is one of my favourites but I'm not mad at the decision. I can respect people saying Holloway won it as it was so close, I think calling it a robbery is really unfair to Volkanovski though who stepped it up in those championship rounds.

Usman doing exactly what I expected. Even if mas had a whole training camp, it would turn out the same way.

interestingly, all three judges had round 3 scored to Volkanovski. One judge had rounds 1,2 and 5 to Holloway hence him winning 48-47.

Is a more exciting fight, but weirdly it’s possibly a more one sided fight. Masvidal can win of course, but there’s the potential for it to be a 5 round smotherfest. Burns grappling is of course legit and he can throw bombs, his qualities serve to null Usmans a little more.

I think I’m going ...

Usman decision
Volkanovski decision - just think this fight might end up looking exactly the same. I love Max but not sure what he can do to flip this one around. Volk looks super professional and prepared.
Yan TKO or decision - just think he’s on more of an upcurve than Aldo. I stand by the Moraes win over Aldo.
Rose TKO/KO ( I know Andrade is durable but Rose has possibly the best pure striking in all of WMMA and I think she’s coming in to this looking great. Think she gets revenge here )
Ribas decision/finish - comfortable win in any way, she is legit and Paige is checking out

actually put my money where my mouth was on a fivefold, so that was a nice little windfall !

Say what you want about Usman's approach, it was a masterclass in MMA. Why stand toe to toe with a knockout specialist when your strongest attribute is wrestling?

It's boring but he didn't show up to entertain, he came to defend his belt and did so emphatically. Huge props to Masvidal for taking the fight on short notice, but this was the only outcome.

In retrospect, the Holloway/Volkanovski fight can’t be called a robbery. If anything, it probably just exposes the problems with the 10 point must system in MMA. The two clearest won rounds were 1 and 2 by Max but were in no way enough to be called anything other than 10-9s. There was absolutely nothing wrong with scoring the last 3 rounds for Volkanovski. Unfortunately for Max, what did he really do for the last 15 mins of the fight ? He started well, but almost achieved nothing across those last three rounds. He needs to go win that title back, if he’d taken that last round he would have won the fight, but unfortunately for him, there was a complete absence in doing anything of note or really raising the pace to try and put a stamp on it.

Don’t mistake me for allaying a ton of credit onto Volkanovski because he was really only shading those last rounds, but he did definately make adjustments to turn it around after two clear 10-9s in the first two rounds.

one of those ones where a decision either way just needs to be accepted because it was razor close fight without many big defining moments

There's a few live dogs on tonight's card. Had a few quid on Narimani, Johns, Gordon inside 2 rounds, and Alvarez. Also on Spivak, Hermansson by sub, and Figueiredo inside 3 rounds.

Benavidez got smashed. Greta performance by figuerido.

Gastelum needs to make a decision about his weight as the 185ers are to big for him.
