Watching the video clips of our boys training in the wimbledon kits last week it hit home about the amount of quality English players we have in the squad, all very capable of making Capello's final Would Cup squad next year. Which ones do you think can make it?

King
Woodgate
Dawson
Naughton
O'Hara
Huddlestone
Bentley
Lennon
Jenas
Defoe
Crouch

All of them have a good shout but O'Hara is unlikely to make it, not sure he's quite good enough and there are already a wealth of good centre mids for England right now.

I'd take Hudd out as well normally but we already know that Capello likes him.

Not sure he likes Lennon much though based on leaving him out this time. Walcott and SWP haven't played at all in pre-season and SWP has been injured for the most part yet Lennon just gets left out for no reason at all.

Bentley will have to seriously improve if he's gonna get anywhere near the squad as well.

I think they will all have to have big years to make the squad as most if not all of them are down the pecking order for their respective postions currently.

As for Dawson, O'Hara, Huddlestone, Bentley and Naughton...they should be trying to force their way into our team before they even entertain notions of playing in the World Cup.

Villa are better than us.

I think Villa flattered to decieve a little last year and were somewhat found out in the second half of the season.

To be honest I wouldn't trade to much of what they have for what we do and I believe we have more potential to progress than them (even if my spurs shades cloud my judgement a little)

Deplh could be a good signing, but the loss of Barry will be substantial.

The still lack goals I think, have a good unit and a good manager but I would like to see them do what they did last year again before I consider it anything more than a one off (especially considering their tail off)

Ipswich and Charlton have had good one of seasons or half seasons but could not sustain the success, lets see how Villa do this year before we bow down to them.

I assume though you actually meant Villa were better than us in terms of their English players vs ours???

In that case, Heskey may well get a place. Other than that, Downing and Young may well be competing against each other.

I don't see Milner or agbonlahor getting a spot unless they do something wonderful this year....same goes for Reo Coker.

I think in that respect their players are in a similar postion to ours, with the exception of Young who may have the best chance of attaining a starting birth for the World cup.

i think Young will be the only Villa palyer going to SA, of the others I only see Heskey and Downing with realistic chances but both will need big seasons and Heskey will probably be injured anyway.

Their team of

Young
Reo-Coker
Davies
Shorey
Delph
Sidwell
Downing
Young
Agbonlahor
Heskey

Would beat ours.

You're on a wind up right? They'd have to get past King and Woodgate to start with and our attacking players are the equal of theirs but their defenders and central midfiled players are well short of ours.

Quick question, would you do a straight swap for those 2 lists?

Heskey and Agbonlahor are perfectly capable of getting past Woodgate and King.

I rate Delph highly and I think Sidwell is a better allrounder than O'Hara and Huddlestone.

Young is better than Lennon and Downing is better than any of our left wing options. The defence is little slap dash I'll give you that. Still think that team would beat our lineup though, our midfield lacks bottle.

Crouch and Defoe > Heskey and Gabby
King and Woody > well anything they can come even near.
JJ > Sidwell by a mile
Young and Lennon are equivalent
Reo-Coker is no better than any of our midfield players and Delph has never played a standard of football to remotely judge him on.
Shorey is frankly the slowest player in the Premiership and Young is a journeymen.

Would you swap our lot for theirs then? If you say yes then I think you are having Monday morning problems. Nobody in their right minds would do that swap.

I'll be massively shocked if we don't finish above villa this season, we simply have better players all over the pitch.

OK mate, whatever you say. But I look at the last Premier League table where their team which was mainly English players finished well abvove ours even with the likes of Modric et al.

As a TEAM, I think their English players would beat ours. Swapping players? that's too simplistic, you're looking at individual players and not the team. A midfield of Sidwell and Delph, imo, would run a midfield of JJ and Huddlestone into the ground.

Young and Lennon equal? haha, no.

Well above? 2 places and from from roughly january onwards they were woeful!

The Delph Sidwell comment is ridiculous considering JJ is about as athletic and energetic player that there is.

That Villa team collapsed after Laursen got injured.

Its all about opinions but I do see Young and Lennon as equal, I like Young alot but Lennon isn't what I would call crap either.

As I said I'll happily have a Spurs Villa wager with you for this season?

Don't get me wrong, I rate Lennon but Young has everything he does but also with a good shot and better crossing. JJ is energetic and complements Wilson's tenacity, but he's a pussy, Sidwell and Delph are both strong tacklers and would give Huddlestone the runaround.

Villa finished a cool 11 points ahead of us last year, which is way ahead.

There's not really much point in debating this any further because it will never happen. I won't take a wager because I think with our foreign players (specifically BAE, Palacios, Modric and Corluka) we should do better than Villa this year, but I still think they could field a stronger all-English team than we could.

Since January we have amassed more points than Villa and English wise we have added;

Defoe
Crouch
Naughton:shrug:

and lost Bent

Villa have lost arguably their most important English player in barry and gained downing and Delph:shrug:

To my mind there is no doubt that our English contingent is stronger than thiers to the point that the only 1 of their English players that I would like is Young. I quite like Milner and Downing but the rest are very average to me.

I think King, Woody, JJ, Lenny, Defoe and probably Crouch would all walk into their strongest 11.

Anyway lets wait and see who does what.

Yeah, so we've lost our top scorer but gained two England strikers (something Villa already have) and we've added a kid as a right back, they've added a kid in midfield, together with an England international left winger.

You're right, there's not much in it, but I still think their overall team would work better than ours.

So that wasn't you shouting at Young 'You're just a shit Aaaron Lennon' then Kendall?

I would say based on the last 12-18 months Young is better but I can visibly see Lennon getting better at crossing and shooting whereas Young has stagnated recently with the rest of the Villa team. I don't ever see him having the explosive change of pace Lennon has or the same control and skill. I also think Sidwell and NRC wouldn't get in our team, NRC especially but Sidwell also as he hasn't done much since leaving Reading. I'd have him over O'Hara perhaps but I prefer talented, skillful footballers so the Hudd shits on both of them.

And Cudicini, who is English qualified.
