This just shows how good a deal we got for Doherty - Castagne has a year left on his contract and arguably doesn't make Atalanta's best XI:

Wouldn’t have minded him to to provide cover for RB and LB but suppose the money is needed elsewhere

Thought the “not the easiest club to deal with“ line was interesting when supporters get mad because they think we screw around with getting our targets in.

Turns out all clubs get sucked into protracted negotiation sagas.

They went for Pereira year after when we were linked with him first. I don’t think Leicester even want him as right back
Identical (or very, very similar) fees in the end, as well. Pereira simply wasn't available for the amount of money we were willing/able to spend on a RB that summer. Never let facts get in the way of a well established narrative though!

Will be interesting to see how he goes for them. Thought he'd be a good option forus because of his versatility but I'm more than happy with Doherty.
Honestly wasn’t that impressed with him whenever I watched although that was only a small handful of times. Thought I was totally missing something with how excited people were for him.

Will definitely be interesting to see how he gets on.

Agree it will be interesting. Leicester have been a lot more successful than us with their transfers recently so it does intrigue me that they have gone for him and also got him so soon after we signed a new RB....

Whilst Castagne doesnt look a world beater, it did seem to me that he can deliver pretty good service into the box. In Jose's lopsided formation, I think that would have been a real weapon for us.

Don’t agree about the transfers bit.

Leicester have signed plenty of flops - it’s just that people get attracted to the hits as they don’t actually follow the team.

15 million for Danny Ward (how Liverpool always seem to sell their players for 8x what they’re worth is shocking to me)
15 million for Rachid Ghezzal
15 million for Filip Benkovic
28 million for Adrein Silva
15 million for Vicente Iborra

I don’t think paying 30 million for Iheanacho was worth it either.

Basically they seem to have a fairly even 50/50 split on hits and misses. It’s just from the outside most casual fans don’t realize their transfer and scouting approach requires them to throw a lot of shit at the wall to see what sticks.

Absolutely.
Pretty much without fail, the answer to such questions as:

"why does it take us so long to complete a transfer?"
"why do [insert team] never sign bad players?"
"why do no other teams have dead wood players they can't sell"

...is that people aren't paying enough attention to other teams.

I think you will find that 50% is a better hit rate than we have managed in recent years.

Also apparently now Rodgers will get more control for their transfer recruitment, which wasn't good for Liverpool when he was in charge

Was he ever really in charge? Just before he left he said he didn't want Ballotelli and then someone at the club brought him in and made Rodgers look a right melon.
