I still would commend any big club for appointing Pulis. There is a manager very much in the style of Simeone there, and I hope he does get a chance to work with a bigger club as he has done admirably just about everywhere he's been. Besides, there's something to it when Mourinho says you're an incredible manager.

Obviously I'm delighted with what Poch has done and there is certainly some overreacting in this thread, but it's more an overreaction to the bad form at the time, not Pulis being a potential appointment for a team in a position like ours.

@Ionman34 they say hindsight is 20/20...just saying :D

It had to happen. After watching WBA this season I was kinda hoping this thread had disappeared into the ether.
I've made some bad calls in my time, but this one tops the table.

Then you go and remind me of it...

You utter, utter Bastard!

Happy to see I still agree with my posts from when the thread began.

Always interesting seeing posts from a while ago. I remember once advocating us buying Leroy Lita from Reading.

I read back through the thread again and, to be fair, I feel my reasoning was sound at the time, mostly because the premise was based on the way he had Crystal Palace playing before he left.

What is also interesting is reading the comments on Pardew, that he played a better brand of Football. I think Palace have regressed and are reminiscent of Pardew's Newcastle side, lurching from good to poor with no logical reason behind it.

What is really interesting is seeing just how much can change in less than a year. The disillusionment with Poch, at the time, was what had me thinking about viable alternatives, so I wanted to gauge the feeling towards Pulis and tried to give a reasoned argument towards why he should be considered. Now we wouldn't swap Poch for Guardiola and I wouldn't touch Pulis with a barge pole wearing a Hazmat suit!

I have to hold my hands up and say I was a mile off. Just goes to show that even reason can be wrong.

To cheer yourself up, you can always read the first couple of pages of this thread! But be quick before the "experts" delete their posts!

Why were you disillusioned with Poch in May of last year? We had a very decent season and yet you were wondering whether we might do well and sack him off to bring in....Tony Pulis???

I wasn't, I was referring to the disillusionment shown in a lot of the posts at the time.

Have a look at the opening post, I was just throwing Pulis out there as a debating point rather than a preference.

I suppose I also meant that as a general question for that overall sentiment. Never understood or agreed with the notion that last season was poor. It was very good for certain periods and Poch clearly had it in him to take us to another level

I have to admit that I was a little on the fence with Poch, though I did say that the Chelsea and goon games showed we had it in us.

In the end, we can all be happy that we have a keeper and Pulis can be forgotten...

Pleeeeeeeeease!

To be fair to ionman34 Pulis hasn't had his chance at a top club so we still don't know how well he would do, it's probably his style rather than his effectiveness behind that but I bet most people would agree that Villa wouldn't be where they are if he'd gone there.
Could never be a Spurs manager, the fans demand more style but I have some respect for him.
