Jesse Lingard has been under consideration at Tottenham following his departure from Manchester United as a free agent. Spurs have bolstered their wide attacking areas with Richarlison and Ivan Perisic but Lingard, 29, is seen as a creative central midfielder where he played for England at the last World Cup.

I think he would be a great addition but he is looking to make more starts something that he wouldn't get with us. I would be amazed if come the end of August he's not back with the Pikey's,

I see him more as an auxiliary striker than what we want which is a clever passer behind the strikers.

He's really not a very versatile player. He's awful on the wing. He was good quite centrally for West Ham but that's mainly because he got a run of games. I'd question how good he'd be as an impact sub. Can't we just bloody sign Eriksen!

That's the sort of signing we would have jumped on in the Harry era, but we've moved on from that. Now we only sign players who fit the manager's system(s).
I think Redknapp looked to good experienced pros on short deals for reasonable salaries.

I don't think Lingard fits that.

True. He seemed a bit quick to sign decent players who were available cheaply, rather than carefully selecting signings who fitted the system though. Kranjcar is a prime example of that, but at least he proved to be a useful impact sub.

True. But I think the free transfer market has changed now to no longer be the cheap option.

He's a decent player but surely way down our list of preferences.
