Tottenham remain interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillps ahead of the upcoming January transfer window. Ange Postecoglou is looking to strengthen his squad in all areas of the park after an excellent start to the new season, with the ambition of continuing on their trajectory.

I prefer the idea of taking the better players (playing well) at the so called 'inferior teams' compared with signing the average players from 'top clubs' (who aren't playing at all).

If the Ange appointment has taught us one thing, it's "bigger isn't always better" (metaphorically speaking of course. I love the bones of that big Aussie care-bear).

I would say he is a good fit for an ange team, and he is EQ (which is important in our current situation).
I have no idea about the financial side though.

Nope. Unless Ange tells me he wants him, if so, he's earned the right to make a mistake.

Can you all see KP willing to give up his lucrative contract though?

I can't believe how many are saying no because he can't get a a game for City. Obviously the price would need to be right but he was excellent for Leeds and has always done well for England.

Fact is he's a very good player and I'd take him every day of the week and twice on Sunday over Skipp and PEH.

Wait, he’s 27? Thought he was much younger. That in itself suggests this is bullshit.

If Ange think he suits his system then he could try and tempt David Batty out of retirement and I'll trust his judgement.

I think he’s a very good player, and would certainly improve our options, with hardly any/much much less of a drop off in quality. Homegrown too. Injuries and age would be a concern, but everything else then yes, I’d have him here. He has always stood out for Leeds against us, much as Bissouma did for Brighton.

I'd be happy to have him, but I can't see how the finances would make sense. It would probably make more sense to sign a younger CM on lower wages, like we did with Sarr.

For context, Phillips currently earns 50% more than Hojbjerg, almost twice as much as Bissouma, and five times as much as Sarr. While I rate him as a player, I can't see him playing a more significant role than Hojbjerg (even if he does a better job of it).

I would be more than happy to have Phillips here with us, as he's easily a Champions league level player. But realistically, he's not moving to another club to fight for a starting position, especially as we're not in the Champions League.

He simply doesn’t warrant the cost of the fee and wages.

He has barely played in 2 years and I’d rather we spent more wisely.

He’s far from an average player at a top club.

He’s quality, but perhaps he just doesn’t fit Guardiola’s ideals or isn’t the best trainer? (Said to have come back from preseason overweight and annoyed Guardiola).

If Ange was keen and felt he’d be able to get him to his best levels I’d be very happy to sign him as he’s quality.
