Unfortunately decent enough back to challenge and provide competition for Kane sadly did not arrive in the summer nor in January, which as left us where we are now.
Agree totally.. Just how some failed to admit when he is really poor but chose to stick it up others players' arses at every opportunity is beyond me..

I hope the amount of energy we expended on that doesn't cost us on Sunday, especially considering it was for fuck all in the end..

it looked like the players had nothing left in the tank at full time. its gonna be hard to get them energised for another push against a strong team on Sunday

Just seen the Alli tackle. What a fucking idiot. He's probably cost us the game
Terrible tackle, he'd been fouled just before and a shame the ball didn't get hoofed upfield straight after so he could have cleared his head.
We know he's got that nasty streak in him, hope he learns from this as it probably cost us the game.

The ref was shocking, several tackles by them were let go, but protest at a decision and it was a card for our boys.

Would like to think so but tonight's result suggests otherwise does it not.

Not really. I'd fully expect us to at least challenge for the title in Belgium and Gent to be probably rock bottom in the prem if we switched domestic leagues.

Very, very, very average side.

Until I see a change I'm gonna keep thinking that. Think it's something like we've been in Europa league 9 of last 10 seasons and not gonna past 1/4 final. Not won FA cup for 26 years. Had a mild outside chance of league once in my lifetime and didn't even get close to leiecester. Year after year we bottle our little north London title tussle even if 10-12 points ahead of them.

Right now we've got a very good team and manager but there is something seriously wrong with the mentality and feel of the whole club. I genuinely believe if our players were in Man Utd shirts they'd have won the Europa league this year. This failure when it matters has gone on way too long and has become so pathetic.

I'm afraid this cycle of failing which you mention show no sign of abating it's something that we have to live with constant under achieving.

Dier maybe needs a rest. He tends to be the only one who plays every game and is moved around in positions all the time. I still think he is a class player but is in a bad moment

But he's more suitable as a DM.
If CCV isn't ready next season, then we need to get in an experienced CD to rotate / cover our current first choice CDs.

Jesus Christ - that second goal of theirs... so many things had to fall exactly their way. Bad cross comes of Dier then a poor shot deflects of Dier to beat Lloris.

Sometimes football just fucking sucks.

And have Bt replayed that Son pen shout?

Yeah but there has been a lot of water under the bridge since 1991. We were a mid table club for most of the 90s so it's difficult to take that entire period from then until now as a whole. The mentality has improved immeasurably since then.

That maybe but tonight they like many others before them have knocked us out.

I can't believe that some of our own fans can have watched that game and believe we deserved anything other than a win and to go through.

65% possession and 25 shots on goal to their 5. Those are the stats, and then you have what you saw. We could easily have scored 5 on another day.

I'm as pessimistic as anyone when we play badly but today wasn't one of those days.
And despite these stats and getting these with ten men for 45+ minutes, I still read comments that this result is down to Poch. The defeats against Dortmund last season, one could say that his team selection back then had a big influence. But he picked a fairly strong team in Gent and went full strength into tonight's game.

If anyone has to take the blame it's Dele, for complicating things massively by getting a stupid but deserved red.

I have to say I'm not the slightest bit sorry to see us go out tonight , quite frankly we do not at the moment have the player resources to mount top 4 , FA cup and Europa cup games , last night for instance cost man u one of their best players for a cup final on Sunday, the match vs Millwall would have been sandwich between two euro ties not to mention the Thurs and Sunday match scheduled , we now have on paper very winnable games in the prem to April and enable us to buy big or strengthen for a real push for champion league next season with experience added also

Some harsh (although I know it's frustrating as fook) comments on here tonight. We paid for a shit first leg. I thought we showed a lot of fight tonight, even more when down to 10 men. We dominated possession, they got a stroke of luck in the first half. Dele had a massive brain fart. Then we got caught when we were chasing the 3rd. No we shouldn't be losing to them, yes our finishing let us down again. Can't knock them for fight though.
One thing is clear, we're going to suffer at Wembley next year. It's a cup final for away fans.
This is a massive worry. We all laugh about west ham's cup final but we will be facing 18 cup finals for other teams next season and need to get ourselves up for every one.

We need to set upon a winning formula there next season very early. Hopefully we can get a win (or two) there in the remainder of the FA cup to give us confidence.

Want to know a little more about the referees from both legs. Some defo strange stuff over both ties. They might just be incompetent.... But this is football.

European football is full of strange refereeing performances. Always has been.

It's no excuse though.

Mentality was great today. Whole team responded well to last week disappointment. We lacked a little bit of skill, a little bit of luck, a little bit of experience. But aggression, desire made me belive even when they scored second goal. After Son chance I knew it's over.

Players gave everything today, they really wanted to win this. We lacked that in last 5 games. I hope we can build on that cause there is still a lot to play for.

I just talked to my friend who works for the Swedish National Space Agency, and the ball from Sons shot has now left earth and is heading for Uranus.
Played ping pong with a couple Andros put up there two seasons ago...
