I'm not a massive follower of Spanish football - I could name Barcelona and Real Madrid's preferred first eleven's but that's pretty much it.

There seems to be a lot of negativity around Valdes though, even with Barca being linked to Lloris...

Is he that bad?

I know he's a Catalan so that probably gives him an edge as I know Barcelona like to have players of Catalan descent in their team, but Valdes does seem to be pillored a lot even though he's been the keeper in one of the most sucessful Barca teams ever as well as the Spanish no.2 keeper...?

And Spain have some pretty decent keepers (unless there's slight politics in having to select Valdes as 2nd choice?).

The reason they are looking at other keepers is because Valdes has said he won't renew his contract.

He is a decent goalie, and some of the stick he gets is harsh.

He suits the way that they play, he effectively acts as a sweeper and will join in with the short passing approach. Kicking it long is the absolute last option for him to take. Not a huge amount of keepers around who are that capable with the ball at their feet, certainly not to the level that Barca would want.

Also, lots of transfer rumours now because he said a couple of months back that he isn't going to sign a new contract and will leave next year. Its not Barca wanting rid, its him apparently wanting a new challenge.

Weird, wonder why he'd want to leave Barca?

Could be bad news for us if they start sniffing around Lloris...

Worst comes to worst, swap them around and get 15 million pounds from Barca.

Yep. In fact if Valdes does leave Barca, I will take a contract out on his life.

Just sayin'...

Lloris is NOT the top target as a Valdes replacement, Barça will be looking at potential Spanish replacements before they will consider going elsewhere.
A Reina or De Gea swap plus cash deal would be preferable for Barcelona because De Gea is the future Spanish number 1 and Reina is a La Masia graduate and a second generation Barcelona player (like Sergio Busquets) which ok, doesn't really mean a lot to anybody other than a Barcelona member.

Maybe. I'm not convinced though. None of this would even be an issue if Victor would stop being a massive fanny.

Victor Valdes is gash and has made his name off the back of playing for an unbelievable team. As a goalkeeper, I would have Paul Robinson over him every day of the week.
