Emmanuel Adebayor is Aston Villa's top target to replace Christian Benteke but the striker would have to accept a big pay cut to join.

When did he last have a day like that? 3 or 4 years ago?
True. But a proper manager ought to be able to get Ade firing for free (or, at least, nothing above and beyond the wages Ade is earning, plus his transfer fee). Squandering £32.5 million for something you don't need to pay for is stupid. Sherwood presumably knows that.

Poch hasn't been able to do that. Ade is extremely high maintenance, he has to have his ego stroked all the time for a manager to have the chance of getting the best out of him.

Agreed. So we should stroke his ego, like Sherwood did. That's how it goes with top quality players. We should stick him up top, tell him he's one of the best strikers in the world and we love him, and watch him terrify defenders, while our rivals field inferior players like Ings and Giroud - or, for that matter, Benteke.

Who cares about ade. I'm gutted it worked out like this but he's a big boy now and he made his decisions. You can't build team spirit when a couple of players get away with being dicks. Spurs want to be a club that won't tolerate poor behaviour so he's out. Don't blame poch for that there's a bigger picture here. Let sherwood destroy his team's morale instead.

And send out the wrong message to the rest of the team? No thanks.

Cantona, Ronaldo, Zidane, etc: sometimes the team needs to know they're inferior, and their job is to support the best player. Ade is arguably our best player... on his day.

on his day

on his day

That's all we ever keep hearing, we can't afford to make way for a player as consistent and turbulent as him to the detriment of the team, His days are few and far between.

And on his day, he's not even THAT good anyway, certainly haven't seen Adebayor produce a completely dominant performance like he had against Newcastle which was THREE years ago nonetheless, He's nowhere near the quality of Zidane, Ronaldo or Cantona lol

Give me a 8/10 Harry Kane every week who is more than likely to pop up with a goal now and then and has the right attitude and mentality to play in this team or even another forward who fits the system who is willing to put in work over a 2/10/ 4/10 9/10 3/10 10/10 inconsistent Adebayor who goes against everything a Pochettino team stands for.

Sherwood knows how to manage him and yes that does involve stroking his ego. As is always the case with Ade, he will have a brilliant first season and then it will all go wrong. I suspect Sherwood knows that as well, but probably doesn't care as it's make or break season for him at Villa.

In regards his move, the answer is simples...loan him. Even paying 50% of his current wages is still 50% better than having him hanging around like a bad penny.

I don't entirely disagree with this. It just irks me that we have a very good striker rotting away, under a manager who relentlessly plays 451. Imagine Kane and Ade together - fearsome. I'm not talking about the realms of sci-fi. In Sherwood we had a manager derided for his man-management who got a player like Ade playing to his potential. To me, it seems that managers should be judged by their impact on the best players - not on some wishy washy notion of team spirit.

That said, I have a sneaky suspicion Ade will stay and we'll see a lot more of him next year under Poch.

Almost every week under Tim for a period of time to be fair - less than 2 years ago

He scored about 11 goals under Tim didn't he?

He's never going to have them days again at Spurs but under Tim at Villa I'd expect him to start off well until he tailed off into his comfort zone and stopped bothering again

Alternatively, Villa might decline to pointlessly sack a successful manager, and Tim, Ade and the team might go from strength to strength. We'll see ;)

If we all had a whip round surely we could make up his wage short fall for a year just to be rid of him.
