I believe that he canLast night reminded me how good Vlad's tackling technique is... I wonder if he could do a job in midfield in the case of an injury crises?

A few points here. I'm American and have never seen DR, DL, etc... except on this forum. I just assumed it was an old school British way of saying things. Secondly, the bit in bold is just sloppy English, that's neither specific to nor exclusive to Americans. Lastly, you use CH, which is definitely old school.Think there are lots of us who just dislike the way the Americans have applied their own descriptions to the game we invented that probably come from American Football. Wish they would adapt the 'language' we use as hate even the scores when read out, Tottenham Hotspur were last night victorious beating Limassol three to zero!!!!!! yuk
Please let's have RB, LB, CF, CH, RM, and LW etc. Thanks not a rant just a minor observation!!! ;-)
Dont see why he would encourage Verts to get forward and not want the same from Vlad who's one of the few CB's on the planet better on the ball than Vertonghen.I'm willing to bet as much as we loved Chiriches' marauding forays forward, I'm willing to bet Poch hated it and I have to admit he did it a little too frequently and against nearly any top PL team we'd likely get burned on it.
I don't think he's encouraging any of them to get forward. The design of this system has the CBs and CM/DM being positionally disciplined in order for the attacking mids, strikers and wingbacks to be more free in the attack.Dont see why he would encourage Verts to get forward and not want the same from Vlad who's one of the few CB's on the planet better on the ball than Vertonghen.
We can only speculate about what Poch is saying though, I doubt we'd see such attacking play from our CB's if Poch has been telling them not to all pre-season.I don't think he's encouraging any of them to get forward. I noticed right after Kaboul got forward in pre-season and Vertonghen got forward against QPR we saw Povh having a lengthy chat with each of them.
Totally agree, it's purely speculation on my part, but after Kaboul made his run in pre-season and had a sideline discussion with him has Kaboul made a run since? Closest thing I can remember is him running up the right, but that was after he received the ball off a corner as he was making his way back into position. We can only speculate about what Poch is saying though, I doubt we'd see such attacking play from our CB's if Poch has been telling them not to all pre-season.
TBH though it would be stupid to tell them not to make forward runs when sometimes that is actually the best move. The key thing for me is making sure the other players are aware of these runs and dont give the ball away trying something risky when we have a CB advanced (like Dembele did last night).Totally agree, it's purely speculation on my part, but after Kaboul made his run in pre-season and had a sideline discussion with him has Kaboul made a run since? I'm just going off of what I've seen of Southampton and how I imagine his tactics work. Several of Chiriches' runs last night could have put us behind the eight ball against any team that can counter well.

Yeah, the one following the corner that I described in the post you quoted?Kaboul made a pretty big run last night, IIRC - ended up in the right corner, before losing the ball, and hoofing it back. Might even have been right before we scored one of the goals -winning the ball back.
Some runs forward when their teams give you space sure. But, Chriches was on either wing on occasion he was behind our striker at times. Even though he was in that play for Paulinho's goal I can't envision too many coaches who are happy with their CB being in a spot like that.TBH though it would be stupid to tell them not to make forward runs when sometimes that is actually the best move. Was probably a case of Vlad wanting to show Poch all of his attributes, dont think he'd be so gung-ho against a decent team. Last night the space was there so why not. Some runs forward when their teams give you space sure. But, Chriches was on either wing on occasion he was behind our striker at times. Obviously you haven't paid much attention when watching , reading or talking to English people about football as I have never heard DL, DR etc used during 45 years of following football so it definitely isn't 'old school English' , perhaps it is a Football Manager Game generated language. As for Centre Half it is still used anyone who talks about football would still call Kaboul, Dawson or Vertongen a 'centre half' ;-) I apologise for my bad English for the middle section but was meaning to highlight when the American commentators during Spurs pre season friendly matches refer to a score as something to zero instead of for example 'three nil'A few points here. Fair enough. My apologies for mistaking your meaning of the middle part, my American brain didn't even register the zero as abnormal since it's so common here.Obviously you haven't paid much attention when watching , reading or talking to English people about football as I have never heard DL, DR etc used during 45 years of following football so it definitely isn't 'old school English' , perhaps it is a Football Manager Game generated language. The one plus point for me of deadline day is that Vlad wasnt sold, really believe he could become one of our best players.
