Drums and booze.

We should also hire someone to go around the stands to give people beat downs if they're not singing

Drop out of Europa so that we start playing on Saturdays again. People will then be able to have a few drinks and lighten up somewhat.

Release gas from under the seats. Nitrous oxide for the home fans, chloroform for the visitors. Same in the dressing rooms.

I guarantee this will improve both the atmosphere and our results :sneaky:.

How about some decent football? The football is killing the atmosphere not the fans.

1. I think the OP explicitly said that this wasn't the point of the thread
2. It's not true anyway because the atmosphere wasn't much (if any) better under Harry and his brand of exciting football

Personally I'm hoping that in saying what he's said, AVB has done more than anything else suggested here to try and get the atmosphere back, but only time will tell.

I don't know why but there doesn't seem to be a particular area of the ground that generates a large number of songs anymore. Perhaps we should give some Spurs song sheet music to a particular block and see what happens.

How can you deny the very crux of the matter? It's like saying how can we help a morbidly obese man get healthy, but don't talk about weight! The point of the matter is atmosphere, nothing kills atmosphere like poor football.

Of course the atmosphere was better in the past, singing has been an issue for years, ever since all seater stadia were compulsory, seeing Bale and Lennon tearing down the wing, supported by VDV et al is infinitely more atmospheric than watching our defenders passing to each other.

We're usually on the same page but that's balls mate soz.

Whether or not it was to do with the football on show is moot, two years ago the atmosphere was much better than what it is now.

Completely disagree.

It was in that period that the air of expectation rather than enjoyment began and that was when the atmosphere started to dip significantly.

There's obviously a chicken and egg argument as to whether exciting football creates good atmosphere, or whether the players need a good atmosphere to have the confidence to try and play more exciting football, but either way I think the root cause of the lack of atmosphere is actually the fact that people expect us to win now and when we don't they throw a hissy fit rather than trying to get behind the team.

The atmosphere was declining under Harry though, it seems to have sunk further still (have only been two games in 12 months, so I'm going off the majority consensus on that) but we have been having these conversations for a few years now. Back then I remember reasons such as 'Its too nerve-wracking to sing now we have expectations to win and are 0-0 after 20 mins of a game' and the like, now its down to the stunted football apparently.

I don't know what can be done, encouragement from somewhere I guess is the best option. A singing section would maybe work. And whilst it did used to annoy me a bit at matches, I think the first thing they should do is get a drum/drums back into the ground.

I honestly don't think it's as simple as you make out. If we were playing 'exciting football' and losing then the atmosphere would be just as bad because people expect us, rightly or wrongly, to win games and win them well, and when that doesn't happen they just piss and moan about it rather than continuing to support the team.

That's the last I'll say on it in here because I don't think it was the point of the thread, but I think the link between 'exciting' football and good atmosphere is simplistic to say the least.

The stadium announcer should read out comments from SC's match thread that day live at half-time.

"Aaand Babylon22 says - 'AVB clueless. Spurs going backwards. Die ****s.'"

I would personally find that hilarious, and be 17% more likely to sing in the 2nd half.
