Redcafe:

Wouldn't want Toby because you've got Jones and Smalling?

That's got nothing on a post I saw during the January transfer window on there.

"Why tf should we spend like £50 million on Dele Alli when we've got Lingard in our squad who is just as good if not better than Alli."

It's classic defence mechanisms. They know they've got a snowball's chance in Hell of getting anyone from us, so you downgrade the player you really want and upgrade your own to justify your "reasoning."

All the while, chewing on your own liver.

The same numpty will be claiming he's better than Baresi the instant they're linked again.

Rinse and repeat.

Recently moved jobs and new place is filled with Utd & goon fans.

Quite funny seeing their reactions when I say I'm a yid, so far it's ranged from the expected "you won nothing as always" and "we won 3 cups" (Utd) / "we won 3 FA cups in 4 yrs" (goons)

My favourite though have been the strange digs that try to twist how good we have become "well done on winning the best '2yr avg point' cup" and "no wonder England are so **** look at how many Spurs players are there" I just smile back and say "it hurts to see us above you doesn't it"

Tottenham launch their new kit and KUMB reacts...

"****ers. Another thing they've managed to do effortlessly better than us." (y)

There then follows some discussion on the crest, which is generally favourable, not least because of its simplicity. One poster highlights that this is why they need to get rid of the "stupid font words" from their badge, to which comes the not entirely serious response...

"But how is anyone going to know they are in London?"

I just started a new job at my old uni. My suboffice/department is only me and a bunch of women in their 50s and only one of them follows football and it's only Barcelona for her. So there's really not much football talk around the coffee machine.

On the downside two of the deans at the academy I work towards are Chelski fans so that will be some rivetting banter I am sure once I bust out my Spurs coffee cup

More banter from Redcafe.

Maybe I used the wrong word. Good coaching is probably more relevant but anyway I think a lot of your players are performing at the top of their ability, and my experience is that top form (if you get what I mean) is temporary.

For example.
Alli and Kane are high quality players who produces with or without a perfect environment. Similar to Zlatan, Pogba, DDG and probably Bailly.

Eriksen and Alderweireld are also very good quality but probably a level below which means they need quality around them to perform at the top of their ability. Similar to Mhiki and Herrera.

Dier, Walker, Rose and Vertonghen are third tier quality. They need to be in top form and surrounded by quality to produce top form performances day in and day out. Just like Lingard, Smalling, Jones and Blind.

From my perspective Spurs first eleven has hit top form for almost two seasons. On top of that Kane and Alli has gone from talents to the real deal. That's why you have challenged for the title the last two seasons. But, IMO, if one or two players drop their form you have serious problems to keep up the challange. Compare that to City. They have more top quality players and defenetly more second tier quality in their squad.

If the majority of United squad hits top form, together with two three sew quality signings, then we also will challange for the title. But that's another discussion.

I hope you continue to play well but don't be confused if you will struggle this season. You margin for losing your magic form is thin. That's my view of your team.

Bailly looks good but fuck me a level above Alderweireld...i have heard it all now.
If both teams swapped shirts they'd be saying exactly the same thing but in reverse, if you know what I mean.

The belief is that wearing their red means that they must be at a higher level, despite evidence to the contrary.

We're all guilty of it to a degree, but some take it to ridiculous levels. This one feels that because he's stated it in a calm and measured manner it adds weight to what he's saying. That's the trouble with belief, you can get so blinded by it that logical reasoning goes out the window if it conflicts with something you want to believe.

More banter from Redcafe.
The daftness in this post from red cafe is in the first part, the specifics/opinions of which players are in which category. No way can someone convince me that Pogba produces with or without a perfect environment.

Aside from that part about which players are in which category, I can kind of understand the second part, after the bolder bits.
