Spurs and the sound of silence.
Are Liverpool the new Borussia Dortmund of the premier league? They may well model themselves to be the new one, and are a work in progress. But someone has beaten us to the punch as regards being the finished article.

Spurs appear to be coasting along quietly in a similar fashion to their impressive manager. Unnoticed, unassuming. A young side built from the back. I’ll admit before the season began I thought that this was a team that was lacking in squad depth. Like a moth to a flame I was distracted by the sparkling, shiny Harry Kane and the lack of a replacement should he get injured.

However looking across this spurs squad (bar the potential for a Harry Kane Sized hole) this is an extremely impressive, young, balanced squad, without boasting any superstars.

One of the top keepers in the league in Lloris (28yrs) and a capable back up in Vorm (32yrs). Pacey attacking full backs in in Walker (25yrs) and Rose (25yrs). More than adequate cover on either flank with Trippier (25 yrs) and Ben Davies (22yrs). The best current centre back partnership in the league in Vertonghen (28yrs) and Alderwiereld (26yrs). Backup in Dier, if needed, (21yrs) Wimmer (22yrs) and Fazio (28yrs)

A dynamic central Midfield with Dier (21), Alli (19) and backup in Mason (25) Bentaleb (24) and Dembele (28)

Inventive attacking midfield of Erikson (23) , Lamela (23), Son(23), and again capable back up in Chadli (26) and Andros Townsend (24) *cough cough

They have one of the best no. 9’s in the league as a target man with physical presence combined with footballing ability at the age of 22. Noted that Clinton N’Jie at 22 looks fairly raw. Fair enough, Spurs need 2, possibly 3 signings just to beef up their attacking ranks a little but this really could be a squad who could make a statement this season and over the coming seasons.

I’m a Liverpool Supporter, and I like the way this impressive spurs side has taken shape with apparent minimum fuss. It’s the sort of balance that Liverpool need to aim for with our glut of No. 10’s, paucity of backup for our fullback options and currently only having a bambiesque Lovern and an aged Toure as our centre back cover.

I’m going to call it, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Spurs were the 3rd best team in the league this season. Obvious top 2 being Man City and Arsenal. If Liverpool are heavy metal football, Arsenal are an Orchestra, well then Spurs are Simon and Garfunkel. I’d be wary of the sound of silence.

Its a good piece from the dipper fan, just echoing what a lot of the positive crew in here are thinking - myself included.

Must be confusing for some of the doom mongers to get their heads round though lol.

I can understand half and half scarfs, in games involving a team from another country, it's almost like a program or other momento from the match to keep in a cupboard collecting dust, but shirts? Between 2 English teams? Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Not even for a dare.

A bit from Arsemania

  1. On to the next one...

After a mid-week battering by Bayern, we really need to bounce back in the league. If we're completely honest with ourselves, this is the one that we want to win, and it will put us in good stead going into the international break.

Spurs are in good form at the moment, quietly going about their business and picking up wins, without pulling up any trees. The two clubs are tied for the best defences in the league, but we are depleted by injuries. Saying that however, our attack looks red hot at the moment, and even in a disheartening loss against Bayern, our attack still shone at times.

    EPL Table
    1. Manchester City 25
    2. Arsenal 25
    3. Leicester City 22
    4. Manchester United 21
    5. Tottenham 20

I'm expecting to see the same line up as against Bayern, as we've not really got any wiggle room in our squad. Özil and Giroud are bang in form at the moment, so I'm not scared of the Spurs defence. I expect us to out score them.

    Predicted Score: Arsenal 3 - 1 Tottenham

  1. I remarked over the weekend that they are quietly picking up the points. They are joint second in the form table with West Ham, who everyone is raving about right now.

The North London Derby is going to be high quality match this time. We need to put in a stellar performance to get the maximum points over there, as I feel they too will be confident.

tbh, tottenham are collecting points here,
before the end of the year, they still have to play us, Chelsea, West Ham and Southamton.
We'll have Southamton, City and them for tricky games,
we have a good chance to increase the gap before Christmas.

let's hope Ramsey is back soon.

they are still miles behind a top 4 team.

The Spurs match is going to be a lot like the United match I think where we'll shut them down and rely on our outcreating and outfinishing them to win it. We've done it once already this season and I'd wager it'll happen again but it will not be a cakewalk.

The weekend's match against Bournemouth wasn't exactly a stellar performance on their part but again they share our defensive prowess (albeit against worst opposition), have only lost once this season and have actually outscored United despite spending significantly less.

  9. Spurs defensively are one of the best teams in the league. I'd honestly have money on them to get into the top 4 on current form and with results as they are.

Don't count them out just yet. Their attack has yet to hit any real fluency (and I doubt it will ever be on par with us and City given their squad) and they're keeping teams out. That ALWAYS bodes well for a team.

The same underlying statistics, xG F/A, TSR etc that show us to be bang on pace to run City close this season are saying *very* good things about the Spuds.

God that was difficult to say.
    1. The shortcomings in our fullbacks was horribly exposed ... however on the plus side the goal difference in our group will be "fixed" when BM bang four or five past Oly and DZ, so two wins will still see us through ... more concerned about Sunday, with Bellerin a doubt how do we shore up the defence ... Spuds are not Bayern but they do play the same pressing style, and they have pace out wide ... at least we're at home.

One word to sum up Spurs is 'energy'.

They aren't great.. but they run for days and have young and enthusiastic players. We should win if we are on our best but, equally, we have liabilities that they can expose if they get it right. I'm not as confident as I should be.

Thoughts on the match are that Wenger got the lineup completely wrong. You can't play two players with barely 180 mins of football between them this season on the same side. We literally had no right side for half the match. You saw once Gibbs came on we looked far more threatening. We actually looked quite decent for a lot of the second half.
You're kidding right? Tell me what options we actually had? All of them are injured - this was literally it. Any other options we did have would have resulted in an even bigger defeat.

Debuchy will be fine against Tottenham. lack of protection in front of him is the concern and I doubt Bellerin would've done any better today. I've never known a team suffer key injuries at crucial periods like we do and it's been like this for years.
