Merson only continues to be employed by Sky because of his personal issues, I'm certain of it. He actually came across as an ok bloke during a couple of programs he's been in that focus on said issues. But as a pundit, he's beyond parody.

Yeah I have thought that for a while too. All the other changes at Sky but he's still around. I think if he didn't have that job and being around football he'd be in a bad place and the company know it.

I've come to like him on a personal level. Especially as the guy who I used to think was the sensible one on that panel when it came to football chat has turned out to be an utter cretin in every other facet of life (Matt Le Tissier).

If Merson wasn’t on sky I fear what would happen to him, and I’m sure that’s the only reason he wasn’t moved on when Le Tissier Thompson and Nichols were.

Nah mate, he wasn’t moved on because people continually bite in the waters he’s chumming.
Whether he’s actually as dim as he appears or a master troll he makes them money... if he didn’t they’d cast him aside without a second thought.

I very much hope and will cheer him on with full force. I guess the point of my post was that we're far from the finished article but I've already seen enough in this group and coaches and manager already to just enjoy it and if things go wonky at some points, we'll just ride it out. It'll be worth it in the end with more time and a few more windows to strengthen further.

Yeah it's pretty bad that he still gets such usage. In that setting eloquence has to be one of the most needed skills and he doesn't have it on any level.

I sort of understand using him on Soccer Saturday because that requires reckless enthusiasm and comedy rather than eloquence. As a match pundit, jesus.

Indeed. We have a very good starting XI, but with a massive drop in quality to our reserves in some positions (primarily at CB). For that reason, I believe the absence of European footie could be a blessing in disguise.

If we were to buy a cb and although unaffordable, mitoma, I think we could win the league.
