What Would You have Changed?

This was the exact team I proposed with an arse mate:

----------------Gomes-------------------
---Corluka---King-----Dawson----BAE-----
---Bentley--Palacios---Jenas----Krancjar--
-------------Crouch--Keane---------------

I put Jenas and Dawson in, because even though I liked the King-Bassong and Palacios-Huddlestone partnerships its arsenal away that those two seem to thrive in.

Krancjar is there because he has a great element of consistency about him. We are missing our best left mid and I would have been confident that Krancjar would have done an OK job there which is just what I would have required from him - it's what I expected when we signed him and I thought it was an extremely clever signing.

4-4-2 because its our formation, simple as. We've looked fantastic with it and I have faith in it to give any side a good challenge even without the likes of Woodgate, Defoe, Modric and Lennon.

Looking at the team again now, and how they actually played today, I still think we would have lost. We would have created a couple more chances I think, maybe give a couple for keano to put wide or something :)

If you look at it from Harry's point of view though, Arsenal are a strong midfield side and cutting that out could have been brilliant. It was a gamble and you have to respect a manager for taking a gamble in such an important game. If it had worked I'm sure there would be a long queue of us waiting to kiss his scrotum or something.

I think overall his mistake was focusing on Arsenal's strengths instead of their weaknesses. Learning from the Chelsea and United games has to be mentioned too.

So what would you have changed SCers?
Do you think it would have worked?
What do you think went wrong for the lineup we out out?

None of the changes would have done enough. They were too strong, and without our three best attackers we struggle against anyone, Stoke last week for example.

I would have delayed the game until Defoe, Modric and Lennon were back from suspension/injury. Then played them.

I would have gone for the following lineup:-

................Gomes..................
Hutton..King...Bassong....BAE
.............Palacios...................
Jenas.....Krancjar..........Bale
..........PAv....Crouch..........

Nothing to do with the result today. I just would NOT have played Bentley and Keane.

Wouldn't have bottled it. Formation fear lost us this game. We may well have lost anyway, but at least if we set ourselves out to have a go we may have seen an actual shot on target that almunia actually had to test himself with. Most negative we have ever played.

Couldn't agree more nicdic we need to be at our best to beat arsenal away and to be honest I couldn't see any goals in the team today.

Strange thing is that I don't feel that they played us off the park by any stretch of the imagination though.

Yea, with the players available, i doubt we could of won it no matter the formation/players used.

Its such a shame we couldn't beat the scum at home last season when they were down to 10 men, because the psychology of it must play a big part. 20 games now without beating them lot (in the league).

May as well have started Pavlyuchenko instead of Keane.
And what is 'formation fear'?

I would have played five across the middle, and then been slated for being even more defensive and negative than Redknapp was today.

I would have gone with

Bentley Jenas Palacios Bale
Keane Pav

I would then have realised my mistake and brought on Krankie for Bentley.

Hutton!!!! Have you seen that car-wreck this season??!! Charlie has been one of our best players.
I agree with the rest of your team though.

What about Crouch isn't he one of best attackers? i mean he is Arry golden boy afterall. I critcsied his signing in the summer i got pelters! Well after todys performance it looks i have been justified he is crap and has not improved our squad what a waste of money!

We gave Arsenal far too much respect today, harry set the side up in a way that suggested we wanted to stop what they were doing rather than focusing on what makes us good and that's playing our style of football.

- We reverted to a ridiculous long ball game at times which doesn't suit us and plays right into Arsenal's hands.

- We didn't hold possession, passing was sloppy and we lacked any natural balance.

- There was no pace in the side at all besides Jenas and he was our only good player on the day and that's not saying too much.

All in all, nothing to be too worried about, once everyone is back fit we'll be back to our best but we need to stick to playing our own game and not baseing it around what the opposition might do.

You have psychological problems picking Huddlestone ahead of Jenas.:)

Anything is better than Keane atm.

Wow! Thanks for that intelligent and considered post there :bang:

Ridiculous how some people have literally NO idea about how this sport works and still claim to be a fan.
