Anyone know why Gilberto wasn't in the 16? He was in the squad (from the official site) so what happened?

Cheers...

I wondered this too, I didn't honestly expect to see him this early anyway and to have Woodgate, Hutton and Gilberto all playing together for the first time against a team like United may have been a risk, but I thought he might have been on the bench...

Wasn't his medical touch and go? Probably fit but not match fit and Juande would want him up to full speed taking on Manusa.

Apparently when the deal was on/off he had not been training with Hertha and had been training only in the gym.

so maybe purely a fitness thing, or maybe too much of a risk playing so many unfamiliar players in vital positions at once

No, that was bollocks. Most likely, there could still be paperwork to sort out.

Either way, he probably isn't very fluent in English and abrely knows the squad, so it would be fairly risky.

Some fellow season ticket holders we were speaking to at the game today said there was still paperwork to be sanctioned before he can play. Therefore that would make you believe it is probably his workpermit

He hasn't yet recieved his international clearance by Fifa to play. He'll be available next game.

I don't care, it will be a disgrace if Chimbonda doesn't start next game, he was immense yesterday, i never once thought "where's that new left back?"

We've managed quite a collection of left backs, haven't we. After all that time waiting for lefties, we've got Chimbo, Lee, Gunter (right footed I know but do well on the left), BAE, Bale and Gilberto. That's quite a lot.
