How on earth has wolves finished the half with no yellows? Seems to have learned from Chelsea that commencing fouls is the way to go.
Refs seem to take the approach of letting the game flow early, but then, after they've seen enough fouls, decide to clamp down on the next foul regardless of whether it's from the side that's been constantly fouling or the side that's been on the receiving end.

If refs want to let some fouls accrue before booking, then they need to apply that to each side independently, not collectively.

Been a bit scrappy overall. Knocked the ball around ok at times, scored a really nicely constructed goal, but had other spells where it's been sloppy. Obviously with this team out the passing and whatnot is a bit more functional and basic.

What would immediately help though is if two or three of them (looking at Bissouma and Sarr especially) put the correct boots on, lots of slips and those two I mentioned every time they have to change direction they're like Bambi.

Keep going, control the ball, minimal errors, hopefully eek out some chances and kill the game.

Wolves have pressed well but its the sloppy passing without pressure that's most frustrating. We need Bentancur in to settle the midfield and Sarr looks lost in the Maddison role.

On a side note, Porro is arguably the best RB we've had since Walker.
He's come on a long way under Ange. Always had great attacking instinct, only need to look at his assist today, but defensively he looks a different player

As we overly dissect today's play - lets not lose sight of the fact that we are playing the early game, away, five days after we lost half the team due to injury and suspension - several new players, some in new positions, and we are winning.

It's a tough ask to expect early season form. I think Ange will get them sorted at half, and make the necessary changes as the game progresses.

Can see I’m alone in this but didn’t think the ref had a particularly poor half. Wolves fouls have mostly been just that, whereas the late lunge from Emerson is a yellow all day and Bis was late.
Aside from Porro getting studs raked down his angle and Wolves players basically allowed to just kick ours, you're spot on.

I'd actually like to see Donley given a chance here. It's clear Ange doesn't fancy Lo Celso or he'd have played him from the start. Donley and Bentancur for Hojbjerg and Bissouma and let's just go for it.

Its not just the drop off in the the standard of the players you have to consider, its that half these guys have barely kicked a ball so they aren't match sharp, and that they haven't played as a unit before. All things considered we are doing pretty bloody well so far.

I agree. I respect that people had more faith in the squad and expected us to play better but with who we have missing we're playing as I'd expected really. Good thing is we still maintain a fluidity with whoever has to come into the side, but it's just been a little bit too pass pass pass at times in the final third IMO. This is where the importance of a Maddison/Lo Celso comes in really, in being the only ones who are renowned for looking for and having the capability to play that final through ball.

Missed the first 10 minutes and just saw the Johnson goal. nice stuff. Good things happen when players make near post runs.

Yeah with Sarr in his better position I'd like that

Sarr has been the best of the three imo. Gone missing a bit but hasn't been sloppy and is supposed to be a lot more advanced than the other two.
Not meant as a criticism of Sarr, but I prefer him in his usual less advanced role to the areas he's being required to take up today. I think playing as an "8" best suits his skillset.

I'm unsure if either is match-fit enough to start games atm, but I'd be interested to see what Lo Celso and Bentancur can offer in this role while Maddison is out. Then we can return to the proven midfield of Bissouma (6) and Sarr (8) behind a (hopefully) more technically suited 10, with Hojbjerg coming on in the second half to see out games.

our back 7 really struggling to beat the wolves press
really don't know what the answer is with the players available
Sarr looks very uncomfortable on the left - maybe switch him back into the centre and Lo Celso on the left...hook hojberg.

Or maybe we are a tiny bit partisan. Funny how every single week our little angels are penalised whilst other teams aren’t.

Obviously it could be a conspiracy or that we are cursed. Or of course it could be that our players aren’t quite cute enough to stay the right side of the line.

Think the 4 replacements. If only 1 or max 2 were playing then they would look better

4 is an overkill

Its been a very tough watch as others have said. We are disjointed which was to be expected. I would like to see us being more direct when in their third. Instead of trying to walk the ball in or pick the perfect pass, drive some crosses in and shoot on site. And Johnson needs to run at his fullback when he gets the chance. Keeps stopping and playing back. There defence haven't really had to cope with much, yet we are 1 up.

Funny old game this football 🤔
