I’m all for playing like that regardless of the players available, but when there’s no time on the clock and you’ve got the ball, don’t give it away in the middle of the pitch for no reason.

This sort of result has been coming a bit. We've played well this season and definitely deserve to be up in the top 5/6 but we've had a lot of luck as well.

I actually don't think we've done that awfully given the circumstances today. The players who you'd bank on performing were the ones who let us down today, Vicario aside. Worst players on the pitch imo were PEH, Bissouma, Royal and Sonny. Royal i'll cut a bit of slack since he's not a LB but you really would expect better from the others.

A decent cameo from Lo Celso, and Bentancur definitely helped us. He is a much better player than PEH. I don't get the hate for Dier and Davies today. They did their best but are not good enough nor are a fit for the tactics. The problems at the back are down to Levy's failures.

I'd look at a signing to replace Skipp and Hojbjerg in January, neither of which are good enough. First week of January go and get Lloyd Kelly and a new midfielder and bring in a forward later on if we can get a buyer for Richarlison.

Against Villa i'd probably bring in Phillips for Dier as well as Bentancur and GLC in for PEH and Bissouma.

Fucking hell, chucked that away.

The same old fuckwits from last year, show how much of a drop-off it is with some of those old clowns still in the team. Dier and Royal living up to their reputations. I cannot for the life of me understand how or why they have a squad number. They offer nothing. At least gentle Ben can clear the ball or perform basic hard graft defending.

It's not knee jerk at all. Been saying it since Monday night that we couldn't play this way with those players.

I'm talking about people blaming the ref and bemoaning Dier and Davies.

You're right, we can't play high line with those players. Not necessarily the players fault though, it's the coach that needs to adapt tactics to suit. He won't compromise so I guess we live by the sword and die by the sword.

Edit: the hope is also that we can refresh some of the backup players in the squad to suit the tactic for times like this. But you know better than anyone else here how difficult that is going to be.

ref was actually lenient today... most ref's would have sent biss off.
For a challenge that wasn't a yellow and then a challenge he won the ball with? Dawson could have been off, hands to the face of Sonny, then stood on him.

19 fouls and two yellows for them only after the 94th minute. We had 15 and got the two first bookings yet again. Teams have been kicking the shit out of us since the Liverpool game. They are letting them away with it for some reason but when one of ours makes their first foul it seems to be a yellow almost every time.

Today was a missed opportunity. I was hoping to see the kids play. Dorrington, Phillips and Donley all know the system and they are unbeaten and top PL2. It's no point blaming Dier and Davies. We know they don't work in Ange's system. Ange should also know this. He needs to be brave.

Eric playing for offside about 8 yds from goal for their 2nd goal. If he had gone for the ball would prob have cleared or made it very difficult to score.
Bissouma misses next game.
quite noticeable how many misplaced passes there were in midfield. Good job we’ve got a decent whack of points so far.
They didn’t really go over the top. Most balls were diagonals to their wide players.

To me Hojbjerg’s legs seem to have gone. He was never the fastest but he was very ponderous today. Sonny was rubbish hardly a captains performance. Bissomer was not his usual self either.

Dier over hit five passes one after the other in the second half. Whilst Emerson was all over the place other than doing a job at LB.

Ange has a hell of a job sorting this all out.

I knew we were fucked when Jim Beglin on my feed in about the 88th was saying about how well we defended and Drury said would be back on top of the league ahead of City who play tomorrow.

Jinx applied.

I think people are being a bit harsh on Hojbjerg. Wolves beat City and have taken points against other big teams. They are good on the ball, and we had 4 days to come up with a completely new solution to overcome 4 key absences. It’s hard for a player to perform when the team around him are struggling too.

PEH has to come out. For all his good qualities we're too slow in there.

Against Villa, Bentancur at 6...Lo Celso and Sarr ahead.

What can the international break realistically do? We have no capable depth outside of the wings, and all of them are injured. Aside from that, we have no back up CBs, no capable DMs aside from Bissouma and Sarr, one striker and then Lo Celso and Bentancur on the comeback trail as CMs.

The reserves simply aren't capable of playing the style. There's no ducks to be put in a row without January investment or the return from injury of the key guys.
This team needs time to gel, to work on a system that doesn’t give that kind of performance. Forget about who we don’t have available and who we should sign. We need to concentrate on getting the available players ready for the Villa game. You can’t just write off now until January. Let’s see what Postecoglou has about him in this situation. Huge couple of weeks ahead.

I can already see the headlines after the Man City game.

“The Ange honeymoon is over”
Guys, we will come good. We have a Jan TW and hopefully we can get decent players in to cover the key areas where we got long term injuries.

Ange didn’t get everything right today IMO but he still has my trust.

You take Maddison out this team there's absolutely no creativity in the team. Nobody wants the ball, nobody wants to take control when he's not there

Didn't ultimately do enough when 1-0 up, and got punished.

But we lost quite frankly because of bad habits, pure mental weakness and low IQ footballers/human beings who cannot or will not remain always switched on to the game and display the smarts needed in every single second of the match.

We had one warning beforehand - the headed chance from that giant striker they brought on. Quick throw in taken, slung it in the box, we're asleep and weren't ready for it, but got away with it.

Then you get the equaliser. Ok Dier gives it away cheaply, and it's a hell of a touch and finish you have to admit, but again the throw in happens and our lot are asleep, not reacting, not getting back in, back to the play switching off, whatever you want to call it most of our lot are doing it, we're caught napping again and this time punished for it.

Amazingly, we still don't learn. Freekick gets given in the middle of the park. Just look at the amount of players with their back turned and walking back, not alert, not doing the right things, not in position. Son doesn't stand on the ball and prevent a quick one, they notice it's on, go again, we're all out of shape, try in pure panic to hold a line and get well and truly punched in the guts.

I know it's considered old-fashioned/old-timer to espouse things like always run back to your position immediately or always face the ball and don't turn your back on the play, but they still make sense and make up the marginal gains. Now look, all football teams/players do these bad habits (and don't have coaches on the sideline as a last resort screaming at them to stay alert - eg. telling them to stand on the free kick) and will usually get away with it. Doesn't make it right though, and today we were truly punished for mental laziness.

Weak, and they all - players and staff - have to fucking learn.

For all the criticism, we should have held on for the win. Their keeper kept them in it with that save from Gio and then 3 calamitous minutes of just not doing the basics.
When it went to 1 each that was more reason to slow the game down and keep what we had. Instead the majority panicked and rushed things.
This will just cement Ange's view of what he already knew was the dead wood. That few minutes was beyond his control so don't go blaming his subs. It's purely on the players and Bentacour included, taking that quick free kick when he shouldnt have. In the last few minutes you turn the defence around by hitting balls into the corner. Not invite pressure with shitty short passing, unless you 3 up.

Really difficult to be positive about us at the moment. With a squad so thread bare in quality and now relying on players who proved they weren't good enough years ago. I can't see us keeping many clean sheets with the defence as it is currently.

Love reading some of the comments when we lose. Proper knee jerk shit.

We lost that game in the midfield and didnt create enough chances. Wolves were more aggressive. They deserved the win. Forget about blaming the ref (wasn't that bad considering some of the others we've had this season), or the B team centre backs who actually had a decent game.

Forget it and move on to the next one.
Dier had a decent game? You watch his performance or just trolling?
