signed him to another year deal so he had the time and space to deal with what was still a significant health issue.
The problem is that if he was a BIG talent the club would have done so
Again - there is a right and wrong way of doing things. Values matter. You either prioritize them or you don't

The thing is it seems to have given him the fire to prove us wrong. That's probably a good thing for his development. Maybe it would have been nice to keep him on a little longer, but that’s being kind for the sake of it. It sounds like he backs his ability, which is great and all, but he was likely to be released at more or less that age injury or not.

Personally, in those circumstances I’m not against helping them through it, we probably should have given him a few more months with his rehab until he found a new club, but in the end, I think a bit of fire in his belly is good for him.

remember him scoring twice against United at WHL the sad thing was he was just beginning to look like he might fulfil his potential then he left
He was a good player, but in fairness to him we had crazy competition for him in that position, including Edwards, shashoua etc. Him leaving made a lot of sense, talented as he was. He was promised to be fast tracked in Germany, even ignoring injuries it wasn’t really happening. In the end where he has ended up seems about right. Still has time though.

Dixon, Caulker and Taraabt.
All examples that ability isn't enough. Injuries, luck, commitment, and attitude are just as important.

I had high hopes for Ian Gilzean even though that was more from reading an interview with him in the programme. Others include Andy Turner, Rory Allen, Lee Barnard, Jamie Slabber and Mark Robson.

understand that perspective - just think that Danny makes these silly little decisions that are....well the phrase penny wise and pound foolish come to mind. I feel like he needs a strong right hand person who has a different mindset and is willing to tell him when he is wrong.

I literally thought Taarabt was going to be the new Zidane.

I remember my brother in law scoffed after I told him Taarabt was the most talented player I’d seen come through the ranks at Spurs and I almost punched him in the face.

He's fallen a long way from those heady days at Dunstable Town.
My son came in a few minutes ago, he asked if I remembered Dixon, he was as disappointed as I was that things didn't go to plan. I brought him up well, we used to go and watch the reserves over at Broadhall Way at Stevenage on a Monday night when he was a kid so he gets the whole nurturing thing and is disappointed when things don't go as hoped, we were gutted when Mark Yeates and Charlie Lee didn't make the first team but happy that Charlie Daniels made a good solid career at Bournemouth.

I thought Rohan Ricketts would be England's best player. Geovani dos Santos was also exciting. On the flip side.. I remember seeing a kid miss a pen in the Europe league against hearts at WHL. I knew then and there he'd never amount to anything special... I should be a scout.

OK, obscure one here - Paul Moran, nicknamed 'sparrow', was only 5'8. Was such a quick and exciting winger. Bad injuries ruined his career.

Also Guy Butters, thought he was gonna be a defensive rock for us.

My older brothers' took me to a game in the early 90's (93 I think) and after the match we went to their local. Paul Moran came in. Spurs had just won and he had come on for the last few minutes at right back.
I remember them chatting and he joked that he was glad he didn't have to mark Ryan Giggs. Seemed a really nice bloke.

Mark Yeates. Teared up the reserve league (that included some decent prem players) but think he was just too cocky and therefore didn't work as hard as he should have.

Lee Barnard
Jon Blondel
Antony Gardner (did ok but I thought he was going to be Ledley with 2 knees)
Terry Dixon
and of course Winks, who looked like the real deal at times early in his 1st team career.

Obviously there are loads, but the classics in my time are Ally Dick, Terry Dixon, John Bostock and Marcus Edwards. People like Pritchard and Onomah everyone thought would be good, but not world-beaters like the four I've mentioned.

Taarabt I think it was pretty obvious all along that while he had stellar talent, he also had a real attitude and probably wouldn't make it (that's why he was with us).

Lee Barnard is almost at the level of the top four disappointments, but banging in youth team goals means nothing really and as I remember that's all he had to his game.

Phil Ifil had a brilliant couple of games and then disappeared. Never understood what happened with him.

My son went to watch a local (Luton area) Sunday league cup final tonight, St Joseph's vs Club Lewsey (@scat1620 will know the teams probably), Terry Dixon was on the bench for Club Lewsey. (On the bench is stretching it, he was sub).
I have a vague memory of playing St Joseph's in the 90's in the national Sunday cup and I believe Kerry Dixon was playing for them.
I don't think a lot of fans know players at the highest level on a Sunday still get paid so can still earn a living/subsidise wages playing non-league on Saturdays/Sundays.
