But they are signing Bryan Ruiz as a replacement, plus they've still got Kanoute and Negredo.

I know it is late in the window for big transfers, but it's because they are getting a replacement that I can still see this happening (along with the possible departures of Suarez re El Ham and Dzeko re Mandzukic).

Negredo has been dog-shit there Dan. He has not lived up to promise he showed at Almeria. Scored a few goals, but his work-rate and all round play very poor.

Others have since said there was no bust up. Adiepf has stuck to his guns.(unless I missed something) The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle as some1 said earlier.

POTL actually also alluded to there being an incident (though downplayed it more as handbags).

Tbh I'd think Keane would have every reason to, and a lot of sympathy in doing so. He had an excellent pre-season whilst Defoe's was as flat as his second half of the season was. Redknapp then picking the injured Defoe over him must have been the final insult.

I dont see fabiano being sold until after their champions league game. They need him for a better chance to qualify

I think a lot of it is down to interpretation though. To a non-footballing person privy to it, it may have looked like an almighty barny, but to someone who has been in the game a while, they would know these things happen all the time in dressing rooms.

Part of me will be gutted if we sign him and he can't play in the CL group stages (if we get through). However, just getting through to the group stages will be good enough for this year, so it could be a blessing in disguise that he would have to focus on the league.

I would also love us to sign Ola before the bin-dippers get in there. Keane and Pav can both probably go.

Not ITK bashing but seriously, if a fee has been agreed for Fabiano one would think that something would have broke in the Spanish, Brazilian or English media by now.

For a fee to have been agreed, it would suggest that a transfer is at a very advanced stage. Once transfers are at an advanced stage, in this day and age of many agents, media hacks and hanger ons, it would be very hard to keep a transfer under wraps.

So far we have heard zilch about this Fabiano fee being agreed. And recent big transfers seem to suggest that once a fee's been agreed the media usually gets wind of it. Examples Squillaci, Balotelli, Korolov.

We are not talking about some Carlos Kickaball here but the Brazilian No. 9 and believe you me if a fee has been agreed it would have made the headlines already.

Arsenal have agreed a fee for Fabiano's teammate and its in the papers yet nothing in the media about Fabiano.

All players, agents and clubs have contacts in the media and yet nothing in the media about this fee agreement for Fabiano?

Why?

this may be the case...there may be that kind of agreement in place

the lad is already cup tied & we are more interested in securing for the length of his contract & our future than our first foray into the champions league....

i have little doubt he will be here by the 31st....probably thu/fri i rekon

That would make sense as he seems the sort of quasi #9/#10 (like Berbatov was) who can play up top by himself (in Europe if Fabiano is cup-tied) or with a poacher (like the Berbs-Keane partnership).

i think this is slightly different (& i may very well be wrong) in the fact that fabiano is into the last year of his contract at sevilla....

also with such a player i think its more likely that a club would be given permission to talk him regarding contracts etc to see wether an agreement can be reached...

something along the lines of "we want €14m for him, if you agree to pay that in principle we will allow you to talk to the player to establish wether a deal can be struck"....

terms are often agreed before a deal is announced....there is no point in a player having a rigerous medical to sit down & be offered £5 a week!!

get what im saying?

I agree with this, if I was Keane I would have kicked off about Defoe starting if he was carrying a knock when Keane is in decent nick.

In terms of agreeing a deal with Sevilla for Fabiano, maybe we are close on the finacial side of things so have been given permission to talk to Fabiano. Also not all deals have leaks like no-one had a clue we were signing Modric.

I asked my friend who is a Football journalist for El Mundo about Fabiano. She says she hasnt seen anything about him coming and the last she heard, he was signing a new contract with Sevilla. She does live in London though so may be out of the loop a bit.

True..

I would be surprised if we have the time to go for another striker besides, to get someone like Toivenen as well would definitely mean having to ship at least one probably two out, and Harry at least knows what he can expect from Keane and Pav.

You would have to think Crouchy up top like on Saturday would become our default away solution in that case - which might not be all that bad really - especially if we do go for another attacking mid with skill and speed...

I've just posted this as a new thread in the main section but while we wait for it to come up Valencia Yid has just posted this on 606 Re Fabiano:

Seriously after him. Its not just about our CL involvement. We wnt to maintain our top 4 position and improve on it, in order to qualify regularly for CL and ideally not have to deal with the qualifying stages. Our mission statement is to buy to improve, so thats the answer. This week will be very interesting, thats all. First and foremost we need to win on Wednesday, nothing to do with a Fab future...

Yes but Keane should realise by now that he is not part of Harry's plans and will probably be sold.

I don't believe that is true, as we would have been trying to ship him out and not playing in preseason

Cheers for posting. That's pretty reassuring coming from Val. The bit about winning on Wednesday having nothing to do with a Fab future - could this be implying that we're going to try and sign him regardless of the result?
