everytime spurs went forward and modric was in the final 3rd, vdv stayed behind instead of asking for the ball. you can tell he was instructed to by redknapp, this was a mistake perhaps although i can see where he's coming from since spurs tend to leak goals on the break..

but it hurts vdv a bit since he's used to playing a free role like every playmaker, redknapp gives him orders to follow while he's better off just doing his thing and working his magic instead of being limited by playing a fixed position in midfield.

knowing vdv he will always try to help out defensively, but it's another thing when you're being told by your coach to do so.
Its called inter-play.....

Dont shoot me but I agreed with Bales switch to the right. Both he and VDV are left footed and something had to give. At one point in the game against Milan on Weds, he did switch wings with Lennon for a while.

I am not saying this was ideal but he was getting no joy from Neville and Coleman doubling up on him all game on the left. Had Neville got the yellow card he should have had in the first half then this might have opened things up for him.

The disappointing thing is that we never really got Bale into the game on the right when it did initially look like it would work. This is partly because Hutton spent the past 20 minutes hoofing diagonal balls in the general direction of Crouch (was this a Redknapp instruction) rather than moving into the space ahead of him and using Bale (and others).

I have had a bitch about Crouch on another thread but i have always felt he is too weak in the premiership. He may get some joy against foreign sides but he is not good enough for me. As for Pav, i know people here don't rate him much, but this guys ground play and movement is far superior to Crouch, but in the absence of a regular place in the team he is always having to prove himself. Could Crouch have scored that goal against Young Boys away for example? And it is clear to me that Modric likes playing with Pav in the team instead of Crouch. They link up better.

Redknapp did make mistakes today. He should have rested Bale and played Krancjar off the left. He should also have played Pav ahead of Crouch. Jagielka loved all those high balls today. The way to beat Everton is on the floor. Today Redknapp got it wrong, Crouch didnt help and the referee's performance just topped things off.

I'd have thought it would be obvious to anybody with a tenth of a braincell that VDV coming deep was as a result of Huddlestone, a player adept at getting the ball forward and taking the ball from the defence, being out of the side and Palacios, a player less adept at getting the ball forward or taking the ball from the defence, being in the side.

As for VDV kicking the hoardings, that was because the officials were a bunch of ****s who gave a goal kick when he clearly won the corner. Those officials were dreadful. Heitinga should have been sent off for his kick on Bale. Crouch should have had a penalty. Kaboul didn't foul Yak for the free kick the scored. Neville was allowed to get away with murder. It's because all these fucking refs are north of Brum, and not every one of them can support Doncaster and Northwich Victoria!

Cahill also mysteriously escaped a booking for kicking the ball away when it had gone out of play.

It's probably been pointed out already, but where was Huddlestone today?

And i dont particuley agree with Bale getting moved to the right wing. He's argubly the best left winger in the world at the moment and Redknapp puts him on the right.

In our game against Everton his decision to substitute Pav for Lennon and move Bale (the midweek hat trick left wing hero) to play on the right while having our only goalscorer moved from behind the striker onto the left wing was the clear sign that he is tactically inept.

It wasn't the switching of Bale to the right wing that irritated me. It was playing Crouch and Pav together. The most hopeless combo you could hope to find.

There was a couple of funny things from REdknapp today. I don't know why Crouch played. I'm not a Pav fan, but Crouch was awful in the week, and Jagielka and Distin are the exact players that Crouch can't get away with his tall trick against.

Moving Bale, the worlds greatest left midfielder to the Right was just ridiculous. He couldn't get in the game, and when he did looked slightly awkward. If he wants to try new things, do it when we are 2-0 up.

TBH all the tactical switching, the bringing on an extra striker, putting Bale over to the right was rendered totally pointless because he left Crouch on there. Our only tactic became lob it up to him and hope to get a knock-down or a penalty. Pav just played man-for-man the exact same position VdV had been but without the Dutch-man's skill level and VdV was effectively neutered out on the left, while Bale was side-lined on the right as ball after ball was floated from full-back or CM up to Crouch not to get.

They're tactics, but they're really ill-thought out rubbish ones!

It's not Crouch's fault he's such a limited player (scored an average of 1 in 4 in the Premier League since 2005) and that if he's not to be a passenger there's literally only one way to play with him. But Harry should know he's not at Portsmouth now, we don't accept these tactics, even if they are occasionally effective. These are his words:

Redknapp on Crouch:

"PETER CROUCH is 6ft 7in tall so his best asset is an obvious one.

It's no good putting him up front and then trying to play the ball to his feet all the time.
Peter is a technically good player but England should use his height — because he towers above most defenders.

I'm the last one to advocate the long-ball game but, if you have a player like Steven Gerrard who can put the ball on his head from 35 yards out, do it.

While he does that, the team can surge forward as a group and pick up the second ball, the knockdown they know is coming.

If you're not going to make the most of Crouchie, don't play him, simple as that. Use a little striker instead."
[/quote]

Well I'm sorry, but fuck that. Have him as an impact player by all means, or try him for 50 minutes even, but he's not a 90 minute man and yesterday is not the first time playing Crouch has made us play shit football .

Switching positions on and off is OK it allows the wingers to have a game for a couple of minutes where they can cut inside and maybe have a go at the goal with their stronger foot, instead of going all the way to the goal line and try to make a cross. But having them for the rest of the game there is not.

If Bale gets double even triple teamed then we have an extra player somewhere who has his thumb up his ass and not doing anything to help Bale.

I rate Pav but even that he is much better player than Crouch is in every aspect of the game except winning the ball in the air, he cant use his skill to benefit the team when all we do is hoof the ball forward.

But surely this is a good thing as if the England job ever did crop up, he sure as fuck won't get it talking shit like that.

My main questioning of Redknapp this week is why did he play Huddlestone away at the San Siro, a game I felt was more suited to 2 mobile CMs (Palacios and Jenas) rather than in today's home game.

My only other comment is that maybe now is the time to look at Krancjar and Pav to start as they can score goals. A forward diamond of Pav at the tip, with VdV and Kranky at the sides with Modric at the bottom may be the answer to scoring enough in the 4-5-1 formation.
Hudd and Jenas as the 2 defensive DMs can also score with Bale and Hutton overlapping FBs providing width and the odd goal too.

No, no, noooooo. I think that would be a disaster.

Jenas isn't a dm and Palacios isn't particularly mobile. Bit perplexed by your suggestions. All of them, really.

Do grouchy, do it properly.

Years ago, we had this **** of a 'Spurs Fan' who'd slag off Bobby Smith. I wished he'd die. And he did.

Oh yeah, you do it properly alright, and full credit to you for it. A top performance. But wishing death on people is, I don't know, a bit unnecessary?
