Why would the club put out a smokescreen about a brilliant player and then sign a very good player? Unless our actual target is better than Benzema Eek

Or tactics are crazily shit.

We did the same with the NDP though...

Put up a smokescreen of an amazing WHL mkII, then announced our real plans to move to stratford.

I was caught up in the excitement last night but in the cold light of the day, I really cannot see us signing Benzema. I do, however, think that it could be part of an elaborate smokescreen.

Mods have frequently stated that the club monitors the forums and we know that journalists do as well. Valencyid also stated (as fact?) that Levy is not above leaking misleading information.

Since Kemsley departed, Levy has successfully reduced the leaks. If the club has been monitoring SC during the last two windows, it can't help but have noticed the itk postings from adiepf. There are very few individuals within the club who would be privé to early moves for a player. From the number of posts and the detail, I would have thought that it would not be difficult for them to have identified adiepf's source within the club. The fact that they haven't plugged the leak, suggests to me that they may be happy for the information to be passed on.

The whole way the Benzema information came out last night was hilarious. The mystery meeting; the suggestion that it involved a player or representative with a name sounding like Jazeeri; and then the link by eager posters to Djaziri, Benzema's agent. I can just imagine Levy and a PR guy thinking this whole scheme up and being amused by drip-feeding the information bit by bit.

Yes, I know I'm a conspiracy-theorist, but the club could just have done it to obscure their true target. Of course the other explanation is that the Benzema information is true.:hump:

The bit in bold...it did seem a bit surreal last night and scripted in the way the events unfolded. It's almost too perfectly timed, drip-drip-drip-kaboom!
Also, the way that it was uncovered without any actual info being released as such, just hints and clues.
Added to that the fact that everyone's now waiting for tonights update at 22:00 (a convenient day later - and the next time that the poor old SC server will take a hiding!)...
Thought provoking? Overly suspicious? Paranoid? Mentalist?

Great, isn't it?! I'm loving this window.

You have made some very good points, but I thought that there are a number of rumours that JM doesn't rate or like Benzema that much and even thought about playing Ramos upfront rather than Benzema.

So it could be that Madrid just want to get rid of him and we seem to be their friends at the moment!

Correction it maybe just Mourinho who doesnt rate Benzema. Remember at Real Madrid, the director of football has a big say in transfers. Valdano is the director of football and if he and the Real president wants to keep Benzema, they will.

All this talk about Benzema in London discussing terms with us without L'Equipe/French press and the Marca/Spanish press or our own press catching wind of it seems very, very unlikely.

Dont forget Fabiano was in the departure lounge at Seville airport or about to board the plane to London or something along those lines.

All very entertaining.......

I doubt Levy would willingly feed us false information. The club probably monitors the SCITK blog to plug gaps, but as for trawling through pages and pages of our rubbish? Surely they've got better things to do. If not, then thats a job I want. Being paid, by Spurs, to read Spurs forums, at Spurs lodge.

Even if Madrid do only have 2 strikers, maybe we are giving them Pav as part of the deal. If the deal is indeed true.

Over the course of the season we've had our top central defensive pairing from last season missing because of injury.

Now we have one of them back and someone to compensate for the loss of King we are getting back to the solid unit we were last season...I reckon that if we sign a striker we will finish above them.

I think it unlikely. A new striker (especially from another league) is going to take time to bed into the team and is unlikely to make much difference to where we finish this season.

Going on the corresponding results from last season (including us winning at City), we are going to finish 5th, 5 points behind City.

To be honest I couldn't care less if we buy Neville but as long as we also get a striker and hopefully Diarra. Hmmm... Can't imagine 3 signings in 5 days though :-|

If we just sign Neville :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

I think that Neville would be instead of Diarra.

i just dont get any of this, a couple of days ago suarez was definately ours. Now nothing, now im not being funny but itk's were adamant he was joining us by today. Im fully aware of the rules and i think its more frustration than anything but I cant believe this hasnt been sorted yet. Frankly points dropped against a poor everton side and another side we should be beating in newcastle. results like this will come back to haunt us, the longer it continues the lesser the chances of getting top 4 again. You only have to look at the goal differences of the teams above us to realise. I dread to think if we dont get a striker in at all.

Just a reminder that "talks" don't always mean a completed deal.......although white storms revolving doors could allow this to happen I'm being told!

Oh & suarez is about to move boys....

If we sell Corluka then Modric will be off within 12-18 months imo.
Sorry but I really dont see this at all. Sure they're good friends but they're not joined at the hip. Luka has made lots of friends since joining and he isn't going to go wherever Corluka goes. Not saying I want us to sell Corluka though because I still think he's a very good player. I just dont see how selling him would affect Modric.
All this talk of Benzema is utterly pointless as far as I'm concerned. He was never going to come so it astounds me that some on here assume that he would.

Why?

1) Real have two fit strikers. Yes they've bought in Adebayor but Mourinho had to push and push and push the board for even the loan signing. Why the he'll would he then go and sell/loan half his strikeforce after battling his board so much.

2) He is only just getting a decent run of games for Madrid, pretty much for the first time since they signed him, why would he sacrifice that opportunity to play for another new club?

3) He is almost definitely on £100k+ a week, perhaps even £150k, and we all know Levy, rightfully so, won't shell that out. Ok, if it's a loan they may get it knocked down to £80k BUT Real are hardly in a healthy financial situation so why the he'll would they loan out their first choice striker and pay half his wages for the duration? Even City arn't that stupid.

Don't get me wrong, it will be great if it happens BUT it's just not going to. If you think about it logically, it makes absolutely no sense.

Cue the comments telling me to go fuck myself...
Yeah but this is Real Madrid we're talking about. The same club who sold us VDV for £8m. They're the sort of club who would agree to pay a % of his wage in order to sell to another club. They've done it before. They might be short of strikers but with Kaka back they have plenty of attacking options. Lets not rule out another striker signing for them either.

At the end of the day, Mourinho does not rate him. If he wants rid of him then there's every chance they will sell him in this window. They already have Adebayor now and they could snap up another striker in an instant with the Benzema money.

I missed the initial agent's name info, but reading back last night it did seem a bit...convenient. Maybe thats because I was reading back after Benzema himself was mentioned. Not knocking Adie, belieive he is passing on in good faith, more just wondering in general how info is passed dow the line.

Sid Lowe has just said on Talksport he doesn't expect any big movement in the Spanish transfer market between now and the end of the window

Don't see Benzema being a permanent deal either way, loan with an option maybe. Think that suits everyone.

Is'nt there another side to all these points you make though?

1) If Ade is going to be first choice then would they not rather Benzema get regular football elsewhere and then recall him at the end of the season rather than paying for him to warm the bench?

2) Why would he not want to go out on loan and show them what he can do? He might get more of a chance to do that elsewhere than only on their training pitch when he is no longer first choice striker.

3) Levy would try to argue it to the top of our wage structure and Real would be glad to only be paying half his wages for him to keep his fitness up elsewhere.

Two sides to every story my friend. I personally think there is a real chance we could get him but it will take a lot of hard work and convincing on Levy and Harry's part.

Absolutely. But, to counter your points, I really can't see Adebayor being first choice. As you state, they would rather get their money's worth so why not play the player then further reduce his game time and play a loan signing. Just my opinion if course.
