Just sitting watching the republic of Ireland vs n.Ireland match and Robbie Keane just scored from a mistake from a defender. One on one with the keep and had the intelligence to dink it over the keeper. Defoe would have blasted it right into the keeper, crouch would have put it wide and Pav wouldn't have even ran for it. What I'm saying is Keane is still making great runs, so intelligent and knows what to do infront of goal. It's a pity he had a dip on form and never really got a chance back in the team because even though he is 30 he still has a really smart football mind compared to the other 3.

its not exactly difficult though, dont get excited.

Northern Ireland are an absolute shambles tonight and defensively they look all over the shop.

good finish from Robbie mind but lets not jump the gun with...Robbie back, he's the answer

He may still have the intelligence to get into these positions and anticipate rebounds but in his time at Liverpool, back to Spurs, Celtic and WHU he just isn't the same player he was before he left for Liverpool.

He has never appeared to dip in form for Ireland mind and I think this is what it is again. Maybe he has the will to do well his country but now that every team in the EPL is his boyhood favourite team if you ask him he just doesn't want to score against anyone.

Jokes aside he's a bit of an Owen these days. 6 yards or less or he isn't scoring.

He's a Tottenham legend. Scored over 100 goals for the club and went to get West Ham relegated.

He can do no wrong.

He relied on that little nip of pace, that has gone sometime in the last 18 months, coupled with a loss of confidence he has become damaged goods.

A more perceptive manager (and this isn't a slant on Redknapp since Keane has spent time out on loan) would've got him a DVD of the best moments of Teddy Sheringham, and told him to reinvent his game, using his natural footballing intelligence.

Keano was my hero

The word "was" a big one here

Vdv is now my favourite

Defoe would score 14 against Northern Ireland.

Or 50 in the dutch league.

I forget how the song goes.

Enjoyable game obviously :) Two good finishes by Keano, a fine save denied the hattrick. Poor opposition but you still have to put the ball in the net. Spurs season was screwed for not killing off the easy games. Not happy to be taken off, always a good sign. Not being so stupid as to say Keano would have done better this season, that's all hypothetical at this point, but 48 goals in internationals is not to be sniffed at by one of Tottenham's greatest ever goalscorers. Should hit 50 within the next couple of games. Keano!

He'd be offisde 14 times and maybe powderpuff the ball straight at their goalie 14 times but not so sure about the scoring 14 times bit.

He would have been good with VDV if he still had his pace.

Was a great player

Well said.
One other factor Robbie has is his will to win and desire (is that 2 things...) - whether that be his workrate, his wavy arms at teammates when he's not happy or a word or 12 for the ref.
Something we have really missed this season (that and goals).

But I do think we could revive the old Keane vs Defoe debates which used to dominate this forum.
Both of them's best days are in the past and I don't think either should have a future here.
