Keane was one of the best strikers we've ever had...scoring over one hundred goals for us is one thing, but doing it in a period when the quality of the opposition is clearly better than it was years ago just shows how good he has been.

I find the prevailing attitude towards Keane absolutely disgusting. Don't get me wrong...I'd rather we sold him first over Pav, Defoe or Crouch..and I don't think he has the ability anymore to cut it in the premiership (for us anyway), but the abuse he gets is sickening.

Robbie Keane was..is..and will always be a Spurs legend. Anyone that doesn't recognise what this player has done for the club needs to take a long, hard look at themselves.

I'm not giving up on him just yet. Considering the Liverpool debacle and the Irish teams exit from the WC he's had a couple of huge hits to the ambition and ego. if he can have a relatively calm off season he may well be able to add something... I get a sneaky feeling he may end up the midweek Europa squad captain

he was messing up one on one chances consistently from at least 3 seasons ago.

But I do think we could revive the old Keane vs Defoe debates which used to dominate this forum.
Both of them's best days are in the past and I don't think either should have a future here.

Sad but true

Come on, admit it, you'd snuck in there and it was you wasn't it? ;-)

lol, funny but no!

I do have a few mates that are Spammers though and to say they were less than impressed is putting it mildly! When I used to tell them over the last couple of years how shit he was they would argue the toss, let's just say the argument is now well and truly over!

Old father time catches up with all players and it just caught up with Robbie much earlier than most. He should either gracefully hang up his boots or go and play in a very poor league like Scotland perhaps, the premiership is no place for Mr Keane anymore.

The big disappointment for me this season was JD, there's so much more there but this season was truly awful!

its not exactly difficult though, dont get excited.

Northern Ireland are an absolute shambles tonight and defensively they look all over the shop.

good finish from Robbie mind but lets not jump the gun with...Robbie back, he's the answer

I think we're usually a shambles now tbh, embarrassing scoreline.

I thought it was a great scoreline, could have been embarrassing if the 2 chances that hit the post went in and the keeper hadn't pulled off a great save to deny Keano his third :)

I missed the whole match, saw the highlights though, the g/f's dad used to train Stephen Ward at schoolboy level so he was delighted to see him line out and score for his country. Job done :)

As for Keane, 50 goals for his country? That probably won't ever be beaten, or at least for a long time. Damn sight more respectable than the 20 odd goals that Quinn and Cascarino had.

Ward did have an impressive game, as did Cox. Always great to see fresh blood coming through. Not enough if them hang around though, need to start putting together a side now that'll replace the centurions.

The teams personnel have been improved all over the pitch except upfront .

Even Keane at his very best would not have been able to form an effective partnership with Defoe or Crouch .

I like Crouch but neither him nor Defoe are on the same wavelength as Keano .

Conversely Defoe and Crouch at their best would not be able to form an effective partnership with Berbatov either IMHO .

Sadly I don't think we will ever get to see how good or bad Keane actually is now because he won't get the opportunity to work with a good enough strike partner .

Maybe Barca will buy him and put him upfront with Villa or Milan could put him upfront with Ibra, or Manu could reunite him with Berba(not a bad idea actually)

I jest I jest old Keano is well past his sell by date unfortunately, top player in his day but he just doesn't have that spark in the EPL anymore. He should go back to Celtic for afew more seasons and win afew trophies before he hangs his boots up. He doesn't seem very keen on the SPL though but I just hope we can find a buyer this summer as he didn't exactly set the world alight at wet spam their fans couldn't wait to get shot of him. I think he likes living in London so maybe QPR will take a punt.

There is a rather bloody excellent post and I shalt inflict it with the appropriate reppage.

A point I've raised on here a few times back when I was defending Keano upon his return.

Alongside Kanoute and Mido, NOT JUST BERBATOV MAKING HIM LOOK GOOD CRAZY PEOPLE he was mustard.

Crouch is pretty crap at linking up with partners, yeah yeah he knocks down the ball for VDV but any centre forward worth their salt in the air could do this.

Crouch has never filled me with confidence for England linking up with Rooney either, there's just something about him...

Defoe needs a big minder-type to play alongside him. And that was when he was in his limited peak.

Not saying Keano has or hasn't lost it, but it would have been interesting if we'd have bought a centre forward in of Kanoute / Mido / Berbs quality and linked them with Keano up front.

Keane needs a good 6 footer alongside him who has a good football brain and is able to link up with him - and when Keano and Berbs ruled the Prem Commentators and pundits pointed out there weren't much pace there but they had such good movement and footballing brains that this didn't matter.

Not sure what happened to him really. He was probably at his peak with Berbatov partnership and it went downhill from there.

Caught in the power struggle with Hicks and Rafa too didn't help his confidence either.

It was strange Harry putting him captain, but Keano could never repay the compliment. It's a shame as Keano used to be an excellent player

I think it started to go wrong before he left Spurs .

Keano very pointedly said after signing a new contract that he would "stay at the club as long as he felt wanted" which some people around here interpretted as being till the end of his career - whether he felt wanted or not .

Ramos clearly did not want him so in my books Keane lived up to his part of the bargain .

Keano is smart and could probably also see that the Ramos , Comolli , Levy triangle was going to self destruct , imminently .

It is impossible to say for sure whether Ramos spotted that Keano was on the way down or whether Ramos ultimately precepitated events which hastened Keanes demise .

Thats all water under the bridge , where he goes from here is a difficult one . For my money he has to find a club with a decent footballing strike partner and that isn't going to be easy - perhaps that strike partner hasn't risen to prominence yet - it only takes one season as Andy Carroll proved .
