"The meeting with the leaders of Manchester United was yesterday," Lucci told lasignoraingiallorosso.it.

"It has only been a chat, in which no offers have been made nor was there an agreement sorted.

"The English club, however, really like Vucinic, but to see him with the shirt of the Red Devils, there is still work to do."

What really happen was that the agent phone up man utd and got the tea lady and said you interesting in my client, she said "not really as i haven't got a clue who he is but i will write it on a post it for my gill, speak soon bye".

Tottenham are closing in on a £15 million deal for Roma star Mirko Vucinic despite claims from his agent that he has held talks with Manchester United.

Goal.com understands that Spurs are confident of landing the striker and want to wrap up a move in the coming days before chairman Daniel Levy leaves the country on a two-week holiday.

Roma had initially demanded £17.5m for the Montenegro international but their stance has softened since they signed Bojan from Barcelona last week and the clubs have broadly agreed to a transfer fee in the region of £15m.

The developments come amid claims from Alessandro Lucci, the player's representative, that he held discussions with Manchester United officials on Monday with a view to taking the 27-year-old to Old Trafford.

"I met Manchester United," Lucci told lasignoraingiallorosso.it. “We spoke about Vucinic, but we didn't reach an agreement. “United like Vucinic but there's still a lot of work to do to see Mirko at Old Trafford.”

Tottenham are not concerned by Lucci's claims and believe that they will be able to agree personal terms with Vucinic, who has indicated he would be interested in a move to White Hart Lane.

"As far as we're concerned, the Manchester United interest is a red herring,” a Tottenham source told Goal.com. “We've been talking to Roma almost daily for the best part of two weeks and have never heard it mentioned that United may want him.

“Vucinic has indicated he is interested in moving to Spurs, his agent is probably trying to squeeze out the best possible contract for his client.”

Italian giants Juventus have also been strongly linked with Vucinic but are focussing their efforts on signing £26m-rated Villarreal star Giuseppe Rossi, another target for Spurs manager Harry Redknapp.

Redknapp has stepped up his attempts to sign Vucinic as he fears Rossi is heading to Juventus while Emmanuel Adebayor's wage demands all but rule out a move for the Manchester City striker.

"Harry is a little concerned by his goalscoring record and reports about his character, but Vucinic is the main target now,” the source added. “Daniel Levy wants to push it through before he goes on holiday next week.”

Goal.com revealed earlier this month that Spurs had made their move for Vucinic as Redknapp desperately seeks to improve his strikeforce ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Londoners' four current strikers – Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane – are all available for transfer as Spurs look to trim their bloated squad and wage bill.

One player who is almost certain to leave is Mexican forward Giovani dos Santos. Spurs have accepted a £10m bid from Udinese for the 22-year-old but the former Barcelona man is holding out for a move to Spanish side Sevilla.

Anyone know who this Spurs source is?

http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896...close-in-on-15m-deal-for-romas-mirko-vucinic?

"Main target"?
"Levy 2 week holiday"?

I no like.

Goal definitely have links to Tottenham so I would say this is probably accurate...its what I guessed as well, knew all along that it was just agent playing silly buggers and Roma trying to get as much as they can, which they're entitled to do though.

Would be delighted if this turns out to be accurate.

Levy out on holiday though, doubt it.

What's wrong with him being the main target? That doesn't preclude other strikers as being targets, it just means that we have identified this guy as the one to really push for (correctly in my opinion).

I think the United thing is a load of bull. Rooney? Chicharito? Berbatov? Owen? Macheda? Nani? Valencia? Young?

United have 8 players there competing for 3 positions, perhaps 4 positions on rare occasions. In a year when Berbatov and Owen come to the end of their contracts, a move for Vucinic might make sense, but not at this moment in time.

I think he'll be a Spur.
