Not at all, there hasnt been a hint of the player going anywhere all summer, thats the part what concerns me.

There was plenty of news reporting he was going to go back to Real Madrid.

Wasn't this whole wages point mooted before by other posters in that we can't look at individual cases, but as a team so in theory, letting go the likes of Keane, Bentley etc we could push the boat on certain transfers.

I have to say, this is not necessarily my viewpoint on it as regardless of whether that was the case or not, the likes of Modric, VdV, Bale etc will soon want parity with the top earner so it's a dangerous game to play but one I feel we may need to eventually adopt if we are to really push on and challenge.

Adebayor :-|

180K a week, before everyone gets carried away with there orgasmic adulation, I ask how come no other team in Europe is interested in said player ?
If he is so good, wouldnt other teams be looking at signing him

Potential 30 goals a season for us Eek

I think our problem is that he has always had a good game agaist us?

That would make sense...if you have 50million for wages as an example its obviously going to mean more for a 25man squad over a 32man squad.

He's just played for Madrid, covering for an injured player for 6 months. Not something to be sniffed at.

There are few teams he could join, realistically, if you think this is like FM with 45 clubs interested in every player you're wrong. As good as FM is it's no the real world so we should stop thinking like it.

All these other teams in Europe, list who would be interested in him and can satisfy either him or / and City. Your list is an incredibly short one, I guarantee you.

1) How do you know they aren't?
2) A player isn't as good as the number of trying to sign him.

All our other striker targets have several clubs vying for the signing , as Ive just said I havent heard a single piece of information linking Adebayor to anywhere, perhaps someone can post a link, that someones after him, other than us.

He did score 30 goals for Arsenal in 2007-2008, and they don't even like crossing the ball. He's a better player now. The thought doesn't deserve your eyes popping out of their sockets

There probably are other teams interested. But all of the teams that are a significantly bigger pull than us already have top drawer strikers. That's the reality.

Defoe has been linked with at least 3 clubs. Does that make him better than Adebayor?

The fact is about City is that they HAVE to either sell or loan Ade and probably subsidise his wages as he will never be picked by Mancini in his 25 man squad. So any buying/loaning club therefore know that they are in a pretty strong negotiating position.

Why? With all the money they have can't they let him rot in the reserves until dictating where he goes in Jan?

Great news about JJ imo. Hope he takes the new deal. I've always liked him and if someone can name me a better 5th choice CM in the Prem I'll eat my hat.

Given that Fabregas is more than likely to be off, you'd think Arsenal would be after Jenas if that's how people really thought.

He's also had a lot of good games against a lot of other sides.

What a ridiculous statement, Maureen rated him enough to bring him in last season in one of the biggest clubs on the planet. The market has been relatively flat strikers wise so far (hoping it's the calm before the storm), am sure he's on a lot of clubs' radars. He'd definitely make a good addition and he's one of these types that could score bucketloads in the right side. Harry seems to get the best out of African players for some reason... I'm all for it.

I have no problem with keeping Jenas, I just personally wouldn't want to see him in the starting line up for our premiership games as we should be able to offer better than him in my opinion. As a squad player though I think he'd be fine, experienced and offers good energy.

He did indeed have 1 very good year for Arsenal but before and after he has been a 1 goal in 3 games striker..................who can't get into the Man City squad and is a substitute at Madrid.
The only team he has really consistently performed against is Spurs!

Indeed. They could be royally screwing with us. I posted before that I'm sure City would be ruthless enough to play ball to the last minute, pull out and leave us with no other forward option. Adebayor would be a casualty, but then he is earning £180k a week and probably wouldn't complain too much. With them scuppering our window and us not improving, then we certainly wouldn't be a threat. With Adebayor we would be. I don't think they are arrogant enough to think that we are now leagues below them. We had a tat season goals wise and it was still a close run thing.

They wont do us any favours, they will protect their investment.

Isn't there a leagal issue around this kind of action by essentially stopping a player from playing - unless they add him to the 25 with no intention of playing him. I thought there was a player recently who kicked up a fuss based on being outside the squad and his club turning down an option to sell him meaning he couldn't ply his trade. Especially if Ady is on a bonus based contract they would effectively be stopping him from being able to earn his bonuses and i'm sure that is not legal -breach of contract etc.

Probably more opinion than itk, but Archibald posted later in reference to City not selling to a rival..

"we arent seen as a rival anymore! Arrogant maybe but lets swallow our pride and finish above em"

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but if someone as well connected as Archie reckons City no longer consider us rivals, maybe this really is the case.
