So Adebayor is on a reported 170 - 180k a week on a five year deal with 3 years to run - 28 million in wages, now City paid a reported 25 million for the guy, what everyone is suggesting (yourself included) is he will be paid 100k a week here, 5.2 million a year, so he will be short in wages of 4.2 million a year, thats if his loaned and City make up the difference, thats an awful lot of money to lose each and every year, playing in the Europa league, the figures get worse if we are looking to sign the bloke, as I cant see City selling him for less than 15 million and thats a huge loss, I was under the impression than deals made before a certain date wouldn't be affected by the new regulations introduced, and im sure Adebayor was purchased prior to this date, so in effect, City could let him rot in the reserves.

So I cant possibly see Adebayor signing for us, unless City give him away, and I cant see that, a years loan, yes, with perhaps City picking up half the tab or we pay Adebayor some sort of retainer for his services to make up the 4 million short fall in wages for the season.

I did similar calc's to this a while back, and my conclusion was, the best scenario for all would be for city to give Adebayor to us for 1 million. They have no choice. it's that, or pay him 28 million in wages to sit on the bench. We give him 10 million and 100 k a week.

Do clubs ever actually pay out transfer fees in one lump... doubt it. Therefore losses etc. that clubs make on players are probably grossly exagerated

Do you mean because of the rate of inflation? Because even if you pay in installments or not the cost of a certain player is depreciated over the length of the contract.

I wouldn't even begin to guess at what he is on and what we would be willing to pay, i was just trying to make an example. As for the regulations and his transfer i believe you are correct in terms of transfer fees however the in my understanding the new rules will dictate how much is spent on players including transfer fees and wages. My point being that clubs will not just be able to pay 25 players £200k a week anymore, they will have to force the wages down as contracts end which will no doubt result in may players running down contracts and moving for free etc. I even said Ady may just take the money and wait but then he may be in a position where he would have to take a 50% pay cut (for example) whereas he may move sooner for a 25% pay cut but a longer contract etc. There is more to it than the £180k a week that is banded around. We really have no idea how much he is on, the journo seems convinced Johnsons move to Wolves was much less than the reported £7m for example so how are we to really know the reality of the situation. Anyway this is spamming of the highest order. I just hope we can find a way to bring in Ady or Llorente or another top player as i'd love to feel the atmosphere at the lane with a positive strikeforce.

Please can we drop the b&y shit

Mate, I tried that plea this morning...
Didn't work too well

I'd love them to turn out to be players that nobody's mentioned but then on that thinking, they'll be duffers as nearly any striker worth his salt has been mentioned by someone, somewhere on here!

Are your serious?!?! So Utd spending a combined £50m on 3 players is "a little bit" in your book? City spent £38m on a single player. Arsenal have bought Gervinho, supposedly a player we'd targeted...

That's 3 of the 4 clubs who finished above us last season who have strengthened their squads.

Then there's our main competitors for 5th spot, Liverpool... they've only gone and spent £40m so far (that's in addition to their moves in the last transfer window).

We can all argue as to the quality of some of those players, but the point is that those clubs have actively embarked on a process of strengthening their playing squads for the forthcoming season. We, on the other hand, have not. What does it matter whether other European clubs have spent big money or not? Our competitors play in the Premier League - and they have certainly spent money this off-season....

That's a big IF, mate.... just look at the Modric situation. It's inevitable that some players will seek to renegotiate their contracts regardless of whether they are on long-term deals or not. And as regards the whole UEFA financial regulations, I wouldn't exactly hold my breath that it's gonna happen in the manner that alot of people are saying/hoping...

Do UEFA really have the appetite to pick a fight with the likes of Barca, Madrid, Man. Utd, Man. City & Chelsea? All of those clubs have tremendous levels of debt, but they are (or in the case of City, will soon be) marquee names in Europe's biggest football competition...

I can just imagine Platini phoning Florentino Pérez to tell him that Real won't be allowed to compete in the Champions League in 2013.... I'm sure all the TV stations and sponsors will really like that... instead of the two big Spanish clubs, we can have a competition with a few Swiss and Belgian clubs instead...

Love how you quoted part of what i said and then argued something that was answered with the very next sentance. I said that no BIG NAME PLAYERS have been sold with the EXCEPTION of Aguero. Yes Liverpool and Utd have spent upwards of £35m but in Utds case on high risk youngsters and Liverpool on average quality in my opinion. Both teams have billionaire USA companies behind them and neither have bought the BIG NAMES i was refering to.

Actually now it's trending towards all fees being paid up front. Pesky credit crunch and all that....

All our other striker targets have several clubs vying for the signing , as Ive just said I havent heard a single piece of information linking Adebayor to anywhere, perhaps someone can post a link, that someones after him, other than us.

Haven't really heard about too many players in for Falcao either. Does that make him bobbins?

For that matter, how many names have been mentioned with regards to Rto'o?

Dont believe the Diarra price.
I was the first to break the Diarra link before any one. http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=76510
I also told that the price would be around £10-12million plus add-ons.
Madrid NEVER paid the reported press price so wont be taking a hit. I can say that with 100% guarantee.

Wages never a problem with Diarra. I said yesterday its waiting to be finalised your end. when whatever Tottenham are waiting for Diarra will be signed.

No You weren't, we've been linked with Diarra since January, and if anyone deserves credit its Opensaysme who deserves credit who linked us back in June (21/05/2011)

Opensaysme said:
Very much in for Diarra.

Will we bring in one of Parker and Diarra or both?

If the latter at whose expense?

Jenas/Wilson/Kranjcar and O'hara

Another thing to note is future dealings between the two Clubs. If City are prepared to negotiate sensibly with Adebayor they may feel that should they desire a Gareth Bale or whoever in the future - well its nice to have reasonable relations.

Are you serious about Man United?

Van der Sar, Neville and Scholes, retired this year. Ashley young is the only EXTRA player they have brought to add to Giggs, Nani, and Valencia. Well giggs will be gone pretty soon. So strengthened? No. desperately needed? Yes.

But what does that tell you? 3 players retire.....soon to be 4.......plus Brown and O Shea, big money off the wage bill.......

how much we got off our wage bill so far? O hara.....he was on about 3 grand a week.....

That's cash flow. Doesn't make any difference to the book profit or loss.

Falcao isn't for sale, Eto ? is far to old and far too expensive, next
and hasnt Falcao got a ridiculous buy out fee, written into his contract ?

An admirable theory but Reasonable Relations and Garry Cook are not two concepts that co-exist without also appearing alongside the words "is something that will never be known to bowel-crunchingly twattish sociopath..."

I think that is the hold up personally.

Diarra is in for all intents and purposes, pen hovering above the dotted line

Spurs are trying to flog Palacios - but buying team are aware of Diarra and stalling. Once Diarra signs then they can negotiate the price down as Spurs would HAVE to sell Wilson. At the moment Palacios is "an integral part of the first team squad, therefore £XXm is a fair price". should Diarra sign, suddenly its " No Spurs, Palacios now seems to be surplus to requirements, therefore us buying him is doing you a favour. £Xm is a fair price"

Who blinks first? Diarra is a good player, paying £10m - £12m is a good deal. Should we take a massive hit on Wilson though, say lose £4m on what we paid not to long ago, Diarra suddenly becomes £14-£16m...is that a good deal? Is he that much better that Wilson? A tricky sitch, make no mistake.

This. No point undervaluing the player, although we could just use the Sandro injury as reason for signing him.

Bunch of accountants, the lot of ya.

Could be worse, at least we're not a bunch of lawyers today

Do I really have to post this stat again? and again? and again?

ADEBAYOR
64 goals in last 105 league starts
