Won't get excited until OS announcement, and don't see it coming today, just doesn't feel like the day. Got 50 quid down on Adebayor to join us at 7/2 on 4th August, £225 return. Doesn't include loan, so will have to wait for a full season to wait and see if we buy, if there's an option to buy in this deal !

Fantastic that Niko is staying, like others have said hopefully he will get utilised alot more this season. For me he is the obvious player to fill in for VdV when he is not fit, not bloody Pienaar

Yeah just a thought a lot of people tend to like to hang around in one thread.

Cheers anyway.

And, as this will be the last post on the subject, it's bloody annoying. Because in the end, all the ITK will just get posted in that thread as well. Some (a lot of) people don't want to read through how Pavlyuchenko is better than Huntelaar etc. etc. in and amongst 14 different formations including Messi, Rasiak and Antonio Di Natale (AKA Tony Christmas).

This is a good system, and would work so much better if people stuck to it.

Any non-ITK information on a player, including the merits of him over any of our existing players go in the player threads. It's not difficult. You may even find people talking about the same sort of thing all in one place.

The thing I don't like about this thread is people's compulsion to post when absolutely nothing is happening.

Adebayor loan being finalised today...
still negotiating with RM about Diarra. We are not willing to pay anymore than 15 million for him..He doesn't have a squad number and is not included in Real Madrid's 25 man squad so we are playing the waiting game on this one...

We are interested in Ruiz but as a backup option...He is desperate to come and Harry was impressed when we played FC Twente last season...
Just waiting on a few players to leave now...Gio,Bentley,Hutton the main three.

Still chasing a CB too as Bassong is not sure about staying with us this year, Gallas and King have injury problems.. Harry really wants Cahill but there is alot of interest in him...Samba + Tasci other options...

Also to back up the journalist on this one...There is interest in Farfan...We were close to signing him when he left PSV...And Afellay on loan is also a goer...

The priorities at the moment are very clear: Centre Back, Centre Mid, Centre Forward.

And then a Winger (GFTS) and another Striker would be dependent on outgoing transfers

CM

Cheers CM. I've been hoping that we would bring in some more pace so that we don't look as flat when Bale or Lennon are out. Hopefully Ruiz, Afellay or Farfan can solve that problem for us.

Sounds like bad news on the CB's if we think that both Gallas & King might be bit part players this year.

I agree this is great news from ITK's. Niko showed what he can do vs. Bolton and Sunderland last year.

And he has showed what he can't do in more games. There is no denying his ability offensively but his positioning and defensive play really puts a strain on the team imo.

I'd assume the ITK re: Nikoe staying (great news btw) is not an assumption that Modric is going, more of an acknowledgement that since most of our CM's are dead, Niko will likely be asked to play there, at least against Hearts. Don't forget he played in the middle against Bilbao and used to play there quite regularly for Pompey. He is more than capable of being the creative CM, possibly with Livermore used as the DM tomorrow night.

Adebayor, Afellay & Diarra would be a cracking window. A CB I can take or leave as I think Kaboul will be a BEAST this year

I'll elaborate on that. A lot of people also like just to read the ITK and people's opinions on it. It's a tough balancing act and someone will always be unhappy as a result.

I understand the rules clearly Stoof but I must admit its a good suggestion. Having one place to discuss general transfers, breaking news etc is a cracking idea because it keeps everyone together...as opposed to all being dispersed through multiple player threads, nowhere near as exciting.

Anyway I'll drop it because my comment is irrelevant to this thread, just a thought though.

We tried this a few windows ago and it doesn't work. The 'general transfers' thread was literally unused.

How we are currently set up is the result of much tinkering and experimentation.

Before this gets missed, it needs to go into the RO section... Edit: I've added it to the RO so it doesn't get missed

Excellent news from POTL on Kranjcar. Presumably we haven't had much interest, but I can live in hope that 'arry has realised he'd be an ideal backup for VdV.

And it works. Hence the heavily policed days are the only ones where post count and view count are low. The lesser policed when the thread is at it's best, despite not sticking solely to it's main purpose or name, God forbid.

Ed: didn't see A&C's post. That would clear it up I suppose. Shame though. Shame that people are getting banned over it too.

Of course, I forget the number of transfer windows you've moderated. Silly me, you must know what works best.

Of the 20/30 regular (constant) posters in here that makes up, what, 5% of the people that use this particular forum and thread? How selfish of us not to pander to the vocal 5% the whole bloody time.

I don't know how much interest we've had, but there were reports this morning that Niko's agent said he was close to a move to Sunderland. Obviously POTL has just denied the move so fingers crossed he'll be staying.
