Fact is we were trying for/interested in Young, Jones, Downing, Mata and any other number of fucking targets who have went elsewhere, even to clubs that finished below us. You have to wonder why?

The Olympic bid failing is a big thing yes, but why did it fail? There's a common denominator and it's not Redknapp and as for the 'we can't compete with the other clubs', that's bullshit and not the right attitude at all. Levy seems to cause trouble with other clubs, other sporting associations and players...now we wonder why we're not concluding any business quickly.

9 days to dramatically change my opinion, but to be honest, Adebayor and Diarra don't really do it for me in the ambition stakes...and Zamora even as a back up doesn't really either.

Busy 9 days from POTL (with a critique on DL), but it's been busy for a month seemingly and we've had fuck all in basically...

Explain why it's bullshit then. Before you do though consider that Chelsea and Man City have endless amounts of cash, United have a huge stadium and an incredible amount of money coming in, Liverpool have a wealthy new backer and 50m from selling their star player and Arsenal have a stadium almost twice the size of ours.

Show your working.

The rest of the top 6 haven't had any problems in pushing deals through.

We have to stop comparing ourselve to other teams, we can not compete with them, with the exception of maybe Liverpool (Arsenal may also fall into this as well in ear future but not quite yet) they are in a different startsophere when it comes to attracting players. We have to be patient and work on making the right signings for us.

Man Utd -Champions, CL, History, High Wage Payers
Chelsea -Challenege for title, CL, Lots of money, Very high wages.
Man City - CL, Ridiculously wealthy, Astomically high wage payers
Arsenal - CL

We have to remmeber who we are, where we are and who we can afford and maybe making signings for us takes a little more time as we dont have the same as the above. Some of our targets may be waiting to see if a CL team is coming in, could that be why we are going to be busy the last ten days as POTL suggested?

Apparently we're having more talks with City regarding Adebayor today.

Man Utd - Massive turnover + dont need to off-load players
Chelsea - Rich sugar daddy + dont need to off-load players
ManCity - Rich sugar daddy + dont need to off-load players
Arsenal - Huge turn over/profit + dont need to off-load players (Thier fans are 10x more suicidal than outs at present though )
Liverpool - Twice(?) our turn over + new owners + dont need to off-load players (to buy).

We dont have the turnover to pay huge wages and we have a bloated squad and need to sell the tarts off or we could be stuffed with financial ruin.

It doesn't surprise me that this Ade deal is dragging now. I would imagine the original preference was to have him on loan and split the wages with City. However if City have decided that they'd be happier selling to us and if as reported that could be on a free deal then it will complicate things enormously, plus they will delay the deal until after we play them as they won't want egg on their faces. Given the bank holiday after the City game i can see this deal going down to the last day.

With the right additions in the last 2 windows it's fair to say we'd have had an excellent chance of cementing a place as a CL team, despite these other teams. The fact these teams have more money didn't make them any better than us last season when we played most of them off the park.

We are dwindling our position away with our inability to act and strike while the iron is hot. Our dealings history shows that this is not a one off.

We are close to a team that can compete with all of those teams and seemingly have money available to spend (of which we've spent exactly fuck all of so far), but for whatever reason (I suspect posturing for the traditional Levy reasons) we are treading water while the others are strengthening their squads and positions to compete.

The 4 of United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal were all on another plain because they were CL regulars, we had that chance and fluffed it by not getting the right players in. Citeh have changed the game, yes, but not all those players are on massive wages and there are far more 'lesser' player we appear to have missed the boat on and you have to ask why.

If we "can't compete", that's the attitude that will see all our best players move to pastures new, we need to compete now. If you can show me that getting one or two strikers in after needing them for over a year isn't vaible or possible right now and isn't in the best interests in the future of the club, then I'll shut up. Show ambition was the war cry, not we can't compete.

Taking the discussion into a slightly different direction, have we heard any more on the protracted sales of Crouch and Palacios to Stoke?

I would certainly hazard a guess that Adebayor and Diarra would be contingent on these two leaving but I could be wrong.

I dont know at what point some people on here will begin to panic. All summer long I have flirted between positive and negative, happy and sad, belief and depression.
Now, on 22nd August with 9 days of a window left, in a summer where we NEEDED to offload several deadwood players, address our shambolic forward line and add depth to a threadbare list of wingers, we find ourselves with no major signings, our best player wanting out and disrupting our 1st game prep, a Manager and Chairman conveying very different messages, fans at loggerheads................ it completely and utterly f88cking stinks.

Sham bloody bolic

ITK on Bobby Z? Seriously? Decent player, but offers nothing more than Crouch.

Redknapp has confirmed that we have been rejected by Mata, Downing, Young & Jones..... how many more???? How did we manage to sign Berbatov, Modric and VDV, and now cant attract a signle decnet striker in 3 transfer windows?

I'm off for 2 hours - need a break from this.

When I return I want to see Stoofs big rubber willy, sorry stamp, out on a deal or two.

Makes you think why you would bloat the squad even further with useless signings like Pienaar on 60k. Financial ruin will not happen overnight. If we had to suffer until January until all the wasters are offloaded then so be it. All the players we want to get rid of have will sell for the right price but DL cant accept a loss and wants top dollar for a distressed sale.

I am sure we are ok financially especially with the CL revenue etc from last season. Salaries are an issue so if we cant sell for now then more of an effort can be made to loan players out. At some point you have to take a calculated risk if you want to push on and currently we are not looking interested. Cant really blame players if they want to move on if the club shows no ambition.

Pienaar is a player we could sell right now for 4 times what he cost us.

Our squad is full of players like that with a few notable exceptions (deadwood).

Seriously, it's like saying we've lost a game when we're 1-0 after 10 minutes.

Judge him at his proper time. Until that time he's done more than enough to earn some patience.

Gah!

BACK TO ITK DISCUSSION PEOPLE!

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, don't judge DL until the end of the window, the current point in the TW is not the 10th minute, more like 85th and trailing.

So it begins -

'Yeah we were in for Downing, and Young, and Jones, but we couldn't do anything'

It's bollocks, frankly.

I passed an Aston on the way in today, and I'm quite fucking interested in one of them but I can't do anything about that either.

This is fast becoming a pissing joke!

Phantom of the Lane on feeling downbeat :

Not downbeat, A shame that our intened business was not tied up earlier, but targets have remained the same all window, negotiations have just taken a lot longer than anticipated. There will and are signings. I guarantee it.

POTL in response to this post on COYS....

People missing the point. Even POTL seems disillusioned and not so upbeat about This windows dealings. Could end up with no one. Why wouldn't Luka wanna join someone with some ambition something our investment owners clearly do not
