We're at home against an open, newly promoted side. It's just the sort of game in which out attacking them should reap rewards, and also the sort of game where our two wide men should be able to rediscover their form. It's also good to stick with a side who won the last game, and when you're on good form as a whole that's the best time to stick with players who have lost form as they're far more likely to regain that form in a winning side than a losing side.

This.

But I'd like to see Andros Townsend get a place on the bench.

This 4-2-3-1 is the biggest shit i've ever seen, never seen so many wasted word on nothing

We have casually been playing VDV in behind the striker with two wingers for the last 50 games ffs

so who do we drop or play out of position?

Sandro of Parker from CM? Move Modric to the wing or drop all together? Drop Bale or move him to RM? or drop Lennon and still have to move player around.

Well first of all you play Modric where hes made himself one of the best in the world and thats central midfield, you certainly do not think about moving him out on the right or in behind a striker. Then play Parker or Sandro alongside him, whoever is more in form at the time.

You play a right winger on the right and a left winger on the left.

Sorry what is it that you find funny about that team?
All players are in their natural positions.
AC Milan played the same system against us at the lane last year and played us off the park.

Where's any width? The team is not balanced. Everything is going through the middle. QPR have a couple of full backs who we can attack and get round, that formation everything would go down the middle. Our only options would be our fullbacks trying to get down when they could.

You really think `Arry will ever even try a team set out like that?

Traore is back for QPR so playing modric on the right would mean he would have to stick to the right and thats not his game at all

As we played Bale left, Modric and Parker Center, and Lennon right agaisnt Blackburn and struggled in midfield agaisnt them...

if it's not this:

-------------------------------------------- brad friedel ----------------------------------------------
kyle walker --------- younes kaboul ---------------- sebastien bassong ------- benoit assou-ekotto
aaron lennon -------- scott parker --------------------- luka modric ---------------- gareth bale
---------------------------------------- rafael van der vaart -----------------------------------
---------------------------------------- emmanuel adebayor ----------------------------------

then it'll be this:

----------------------------------------------- brad friedel ----------------------------------------------
kyle walker ------------ younes kaboul ---------------- sebastien bassong ------- benoit assou-ekotto
rafael van der vaart ----- scott parker ------------------ luka modric --------------- gareth bale
---------------------- emmanuel adebayor ---------------- jermain defoe ----------------------

poor sandro

For me playing Sandro and Parker as a default partnership smacks of simply trying to fit everyone into a team rather than putting out the best team as a whole. Playing both those guys means Luka moves out of where he is best. At times, that's alright, but to want that all the time just makes no sense to me. If we are going Sandro/Parker permenantly, we'd be better off flogging Luka to Chelsea and buying another more suited attacking midfielder.

Matter of opinion but one game isn't enough to judge this, plus we've won every game that Parker and Modric have played together in midfield.

All this is for a lot of people is getting Sandro, everyones favourite in the team. Its thinly veiled as some tactics debate but really this is the essence of it.

No, it's simply putting together the best system that plays to the strengths of our best players whilst in the process making us hard to beat and tries to ensure we win the majority of possession.

No system is fool-proof but it's the most logical considering our personnel.

To me its rather illogical to remove our best player from his best position

If you are referring to Modric then you'll find I too want him central, just slightly further forward where his talents can be showcased better.

We have the ball winners in Parker and Sandro, who in their own right are fantastic footballers and more than comfortable with the ball at their feet - let's give Modric a licence to get forward more and be able to dictate play in the opposition third.

So you then move our 2nd best player, VDV from his best position and now have to stick him on the right, all to accommodate getting Sandro in the team, whose affect is massively overrated i might add. If he improved us as much as people say then why did we struggle when he came in to the team at the end of last year? This is not me saying it was all down to him but they way hes being built up its as if he is this colossus, when in reality he didnt effect our team that much last year.

All this to get everyone's new favourite into the team, when you know what we could do, is just keep it the same and not mess about with a team thats been winning?

But VdV isn't 'stuck' out on the right in this system, he's encouraged to play a free role which is exactly his strength - this will make marking him very difficult and will lead to opportunities for him to get into space and for hopefully Modric to exploit with his intricate passing.

The right hand side will effectively be Walker when in possession who is more than capable of operating down the right flank and will be supported by Sandro and Parker who play the fulcrum role in this system.

As it's touch and go whether Sandro will even be fit (and even if he passes a medical I don't believe Harry will risk starting him) all this is surely academic.

Its a nice little story, but we've been winning.

Good retort

Perhaps, but on the assumption that he is fit and that we have heard nothing on the contrary, then we should at least consider his involvement.
