Are we becoming spoilt?

Bale on a bad day is still quality compared to whats available within our squad and the amount of people writing off Lennon is a shock tbh (has he truly recovered from that hamstring two seasons back).

I'm not of the idea of playing Van De Vaart on the right in a 442 4231 for the reason he doesn't have the athleticism to do the job effectively he's much better operating off the main striker something VdV even said so himself... and Harry as recently admitted to.

Modric would be a much better option on the right anyway to Van De Vaart but IMO Luka Modrics so much more dynamic in the heart of midfield I much prefer to see Modric on the ball to Parker orchestrating our play. I'd love to see Sandro ahead of Parker playing with Modric-that maybe a pipe dream....but also thinking outside my narrow mindedness we do need another way of playing. I think that should involve our attacking full backs in place of wingers and a narrow midfield/diamond.

Even if Bale could play the LF role,VDV on the RF role is wasted because he can't score from there and he will naturally drift into the center.

-----------Friedel-----------
Walker--Kaboul--King---Bale
------Parker----Sandro----
-Pienaar----VDV-----Modric-
----------Adebayor--------

We actually could try out a load of players like Pienaar,Kranjcar,Lennon,Dos Santos for the RF role but for me Niko, probably would be the best choice when fit.
I know its not his ideal position and I would prefer someone there with a lot more pace but he has the intelligence to do it and unfortunately Lennon doesn't appear to have any.
For me its definitely an area in the team that needs addressed in January.

I believe that no matter what system we decide on,we must commit to it completely and I don't want an unbalanced system where we have Bale hugging the left and leaving Adebayor isolated up front.
That becomes a wishy-washy-nobody-knows-a-fuck-what-they should-be doing scenario.
100% or nothing.

Meant in the nicest possible way, but you've lost the plot there Stemark... :)

In what possible world has Pienaar earned the right to start? And you drop one of the finest FB's in the league to accommodate him in some kind of game of musical positions - when the music stops everyone move one position anti-clockwise... or something...

Anyway, keep it simple mate, play as many of your best players in their best positions as you can, give yourself a bit of tactical flexibility, have a couple of aces you can pull out of your sleeve at various points of the game and that's it... the secret to successful football management!

Ok stop right there... you seem to think there's no distinction between playing on the right in a 4-4-2 to playing on the right in a 4-2-3-1. On that false (imo) premise is the rest of your post built.

I'd like to hear what you think about the argument that playing on a narrow right with two combative midfielders anchoring your midfield is a totally different proposition from playing on the right in 4 first.

Give JD a game, 4-4-2, Rafa on the right. Want to see Adel get the absolute run around and feel the full force of Scotty P. a few times.

Hopefully turn this lot over, Fulham spanked them with a 4-4-2 with Booby and Johnson, Ade and JD will hopefully repeat this kind of scoreline.

Given that VDV scores and assists more than JD, as well as runs more, why would he and ADE not able to do what JD and ADE could do?

I obviously need to explain it to you.

As for Pienaar on the right,Niko is injured,Lennon is out of form and Dos Santos hasn't been great there...............so my thinking is,give him a try to see what he can do.
I didn't say that he earned the right to play there but he deserves his chance.
Of all the candidates in our current squad I prefer Niko but I really don't think he is ideal and I would prefer it if we bought someone in January but then again I knew we were lacking in that position 6 months ago and suggested the same thing then.

For me Gareth Bale is an over-lapping FB and driving forward from that position is probably the best in the league and at home against weaker teams in the league where defending might not be a priority,I think we should move him back there. We have 2 DM's to cover his forward runs and to help him defend.
Pretty simple VDV,is our Frank Lampard and he scores goals so he stays in the middle.
We know that Modric can perform on the left and with Bale providing the width on his outside, they are brilliant together.
Pienaar will come inside on the right allowing Walker to bomb down the line outside him.
There are no musical chairs and they are all playing in their best positions.

VdV doesn't play the same way as JD and comes a lot deeper to get on the ball leaving Adebayor isolated, with Lennon off form, us at home and JD in the goals too VdV on the right makes sense.

Adebayor looks better alongside JD, we should get at Ferdinand and Hall right from the off.

whilst i don't agree of ever playing vdv on the right of a 4 man midfield, i also think Ade's game would benefit from having defoe in front of him giving the defenders more to think about.

On a similar note, im of the opinion that Bale seems to play better when he has 2 up front ahead of him.

However, all of this points to leaving vdv on the bench which, but in the last few weeks he has shown why we cant do afford to leave him out.

Yes, it is I, Widow Twanky!

Clearly Harry's Keystone Cops collection of 'coaches' had nothing to do with Gazza and Azza's performances today. Nor can I understand why he did not play 3-5-1-2 and left my favourite player Sandro on the bench. The man does not understand tictacs and is just lucky.

i love it when kevin bond or in todays case joe jordan (usually having a go at bale lol) get mentioned during games because for me they are almost as important as redknapp in getting spurs to be the unit that hardly ever rolls over..
