I think you are watching a different player, Van Der Vaart works his socks off every game

I can understand some wanting him benched because of the balance of the team but to say he is lazy is just wrong.

I can't remember which match it was, possibly Blackburn at Ewood park this season.

I was surprised to see the H/T stat that VDV had covered more ground than any player on the pitch that time.

I don't know what the stats show generally but just goes to show.

Regardless though, you don't expect him to be charging up and down the pitch, you want him to be close to their goal ready to take chances

We should be grateful he was playing today.

The meagre ball retention we enjoyed today went out the window after VDV went off.

partly due to who replaced him RW, but there were lots of lethargic performances today.

He had a good chance to get a 2nd today but took the shot on early. If only he had pace to go with the sheer technical brilliance.

Actually if you look at the pass he was given for that shot,it was behind him.

Do you remember the ball he played today that put Adebayor clean through on goal?

Shocking lack of technical ability there!

What does that have to do with him not taking the extra touch? I'm not even criticising him anyway, just saying how great it would be if he had pace to go with his game. If he had pace he wouldn't have opted for the early shot was all I was saying.

I also said he had technical brilliance.

the only way for him to take a shot after an extra touch was to either shoot it off his right, or left outer foot..neither at that point i felt that he was confident enough to, so he took a safe bet and shot it with his left. on target, no body is gonna blame him or anything. but if he takes an extra touch and miss totally..fans would be calling for his head.

Reluctantly, I'm inclined to agree with the dropping VDV bit.

I know it's an opinion that will upset many on here, but I'd like to see how we get on playing 4-4-2 with JD and Ade up front, and modric and Parker as the midfield 2.
we can always bring VDV on later in the game for 20/25 minutes, where he can be the fresh legs against tiring defenders.

Let's face it, he was pretty anonymous up until he slotted home the pen, and was pretty well marshalled by the Toon defence after.

Not upset at all.

Its just plain daft.

Great player who works his socks off too.

Really Ade should of passed earlier and with more purchase on it, it was too light and why he hesitated when the pass was on straight away I'm not sure.

A better ball first time would have had VDV straight in with space and time, and he's pretty deadly in those situations.

He certanly wouldnt be with us if he had everything!! A great player but no ones perfect. only Messi. We are very lucky to have him. Top player, and seems to love it at spurs. Very suprised he has been tapped up yet tbh.

This whole thread is nonsense. He's been consistently brilliant for us since we bought him. Every player has his bad days but he has very few. Sign of a great player i'd say.

As soon as vdv and scotty went off we lost loads of possession. I would have put in Kranki instead of jake. more experienced

Not too good with his head, and his tackling needs work

Didn't really get why Defoe came on for VDV when surely Pienaar would have been the better option.
