I like the fact he drops players when needed like frank I wouldn't mind AVB stops players running the dressing room

I thought I was pretty good?

Anyhow supposedly done. More than whispers and certainly would have thought targets have / are been/ are being discussed with agents and the like

Certainly by DL

This isn't strictly true, it's the fact he couldn't stop Terry et al running the dressing room that cost him his job. He was completely undermined by them.

The fact he wasn't afraid to drop them is a plus point though for sure!

AVB will do for me, but I have to admit I will have slight reservations about him. i think he is the biggest risk with the potential for the biggest rewards. If it works out, we'll have a Manager for the longterm, 5 years plus. A Manager who we know wants to play a high pressure, passing, progressive type of attacking football (if such a thing exists).

He may not have been at the helm, but his Chelsea squad, which he played a part in shaping, won two cups last season. The same player. Its not like a new Manager came in, spent fortunes fixing the squad, and then went on to win cups.
AVB was tasked with transforming Chelsea's squad. Out with the old, in with the new. It proved too much, too quick, and they struggled, slightly. They werent catestrophic, they simply struggled to maintain title winning form in a period of transation. He had the Chelsea ****s to deal with, he had Terry racist **** to deal with.
Di Matteo came in, was allowed to do what he wanted, let the players do what they wanted. AVB didnt have that freedom. And they didnt exactly 'improve' under Di Matteo, as silly as that sounds. They continued to struggle in the league, and were awful yet extremely lucky in the Cups. Lets see how RDM gets on this season. Drogba gone is absolutely massive for them. Single handedly their biggest game winner.

The AVB stuff will be done to death. If he is appointed, I back him. If he isnt, I'll back the next guy.
Either AVB or Blanc will do me. Though having read the article describing Blancs struggle with Bordeuax in the season after they won the league, I'd also have my reservations about him.

chelsea confirmed it?
On their official site?

Portugal is a top league. Portugese clubs always do well in Europe.
It's not. You know it isn't. It's a decent league with some decent teams but it's behind the Prem, Serie A, La Liga and the Bundesliga. Probably of a better standard than the Dutch League on a par with the French.

Does it have to be on their website to be true? You're being facetious...

I'm not against AVB but there are concerns about him which shouldn't be ignored after his time at Chelsea. It's convenient to blame Chelsea be it their players or the owner but it was his job to manage that.

He might be brilliant at Spurs IF he gets the job but I don't think those of us who express concern should be shouted down just because others want him in the job asap. He's young. His time at Chelsea tells us we should be wary. The number of successful managers aged 34 in the Prem or anywhere else over the years is small. It doesn't mean he's gonna fail or be shite. BUT it is a legitimate area of concern especially for Levy who has to make the decision.

If I wasn't on my iPhone I'd be agreeing with this. I share your concerns about AVB and I'm surprised so many people are so confident that he'll do well. Ignoring all the excuses, however valid they may be, he performed poorly with a side that were expected to be mounting a title challenge and this is his most recent managerial 'achievement'.

Obviously I hope that if he does get the job, he does well but we all know that if we lose a few games the press are going to be all over him and the pressure will mount quickly. He didn't seem to deal with it so well at Chelsea...

Fuck now I have to be serious for a minute. Hate that.

Let us not dismiss the Portuguese Super Liga so quickly.

I have a lot of time for the UEFA Coefficient. It is a metric of significant value in judging a league's standing among its peers. Germany slowly over took Italy as a better league and the coefficient was right there to mirror this. The SPL used to be a decent league. Now it's very poor. The coefficient shows it behind Israel. Netherlands used to have a top 5 league until the Bosman weakened it. Now it's barely holding onto 8th sandwiched between the Ukraine and Russia. I think that's a pretty fair assessment.

It has its flaws like all metrics and some of the math behind it seems like it could be tweeked, but over all its a solid indicator.

Portugal is 5th. Close to catching up with Italy (I predict within two years) and ahead of France in the coefficient list. And that's because they have an easy time recruiting Brazilians to boost a fairly strong but small talent pool. Now they are beginning to recruit players from other mid level European nations. And on top of this, the league is doing it because more clubs are starting to challenge for the top spots with Braga breaking in recently.

I'm not saying that this means somebody from the Super Liga will move to Spain or England and make it automatically. But making it there is a fairly strong indicator that the player or coach has the potential to move higher up in the pecking order. I don't know if AVB is going to be a great coach, but winning a treble there does give him credentials to move to a bigger league. Is that league England and is that club us? That I don't know. Maybe it's above his station. Maybe he's bound for Real Madrid in 10 years. Time will tell.
