Agreed, but I would temper that with - Levy knows how to make someone feel that his £90k per week is in fact £185k per week.

There are signing on fees, bonuses, commercial deals etc etc. Levy is a clever man. Have faith.

ILWT

Even that would put him at the very top of our current wage tree, and maybe above it. (I'm not sure that anyone really knows what that top is, but a couple of years ago it was reputed to be around £70k for Ledley and Keano.)

Mainly, though, I can't see any other club that might want him being able to better that sort of money, so we've got a pretty strong negotiating hand.

Sometimes when terminating a contract employers can demand a certain period of time in which the former employee cannot discuss terms of the severance package, internal stuff, apply for a job at one of the competitors or publicly state interest in a certain position at a company. My guess AVB simply cannot discuss, confirm interest etc. into another job (in the UK or maybe worldwide) publicly until a certain date.

Agree with this and there may be additional reasons aswell such as Levy wanting to make a big statement (as someone said above), revealing the new kit (?), announcing a sponsor or other investment. What better way to shut Harry's mates in the press up about the 'crisis at the Lane' than a big news con on July 1 along these lines

DL: "Here's our new manager Pep Guardiola (or AVG etc)
Here's some well good players we've just signed (although apparently we can't afford their wages) including Vertonghen who has turned down Arse, Sturridge who has left Cheatski and Sigurdsson who chose us over Liverpuddle.
Oh, here's Adebayor as well! (perhaps the wages weren't such a big issue)
... and a new sponsor
... and our new kit
and our new investors AEG
Want to look around our new training ground?
Date for Stadium completion we can now announce as [insert date]
...any questions?

I am pretty sure we dont have a wage cap but a wage budget. I.e. a pool of money assigned to wages.

Therefore, if we sold Niko and Charlie and saved £100k a week, we could bring Ade in on that money.

Yes? No? JJ can you confirm?

you won't want to miss Monday though surely??!!!

I'm sure it will follow Sunday as it usually does. Totally depends on how many pints/pills/grams I do over the weekend. I once lost a whole month, not sure which one but people mentioned riots and a cat that could play the piano. Would have liked to have seen that cat, I tried to teach mine but he had no commitment so in the end I sold him to a chinese guy for a bowl of chow mien. His name was tiddles, which was a coincidence cause so was the cats.

Would be with a view to playing him CB surely.

Why not just buy a CB? Novel concept for them I know, since they've been playing Mascherano there! But they could find themselves a top drawer younger CB to play alongside Pique (now they've got Alba for LB) and they would be fairly unbeatable, I think.

Sigh... guess I should stop banging the "I still reckon it's not AVB" drum and join the clan.
Err... welcome AVB unofficially and good luck.

R.

i still dont think its AVB, i also know i am very likely wrong. but convinced it is someone else anyway

as for selling Modric to the highest bidder. it makes sense to eek everything we can out of losing him, be it cash or players. our rivals will strengthen with or without Modric. all we can worry about is getting the best deal for us

Personally, I would disagree that we are after a free anti-virus software to manage our team. :sneaky:

That's right. There was some very detailed ITK about this on COYs a couple of years ago. (It had to be genuine, unless the guy who posted it was some kind of genius.) Top basic whack was about £70k, but there was no reason it couldn't go higher as long as this didn't cause us to exceed the overall budget. Our total wage bill in 2010-11 was £91m, slightly above 50% of income, but of course that's going to be for everyone, not just the first team.

Yep. So I guess, it's not impossible and its about shifting the deadwood. And we've made a great start on that with Niko gone and Charlie seemingly almost gone too!
