I can't believe we're buying Vertonghen as a Bale replacement. There is NO WAY he is as good as Bale.

You clearly know nothing about football, Vertonghen is a Postiga replacement. We're finally addressing the huge gap his sale left us.

Again where will he play then?

Up front? No

VDV role? Possible but again a massive downgrade

On the flanks? No Bale and Lennon are more threatening

Holding role? Not that type of player

He will play in the centre instead of Modric

Jay,
do you not think there is a situation where we will change tactics, formations, or VDV gets hurt? Currently, when VDV is out, we seriously lack creativity. Between league, 2 domestic cups, and Europa, there will be enough games for both to rotate, and that's just assuming that they will both play in the same AM position the whole year.

One thing I am hopefull of, is that the days of our squad not being utilized properly (i.e. through rotation) are over. When we finished 4th the first time we got really lucky bringing players who hadn't gotten so much as a sniff of the starting lineup come in and play really well (Bale, Bentley to name 2). The year after we weren't so lucky, and finished 5th. This past year we weren't lucky again, and while Nico did well in a few games, overall the guys who came in did not hit the ground running.

This is such a massive overreaction I don't even know where to start !

It's a squad game, that means more than 11 players will have a part to play over a 50 game season.

The boy has got talent, and really caught the eye last season, for a decent price. I don't see what the issue is especially when nobody knows who Lukas replacement will be!

Yes. And not only that. Certain players don't suit the style of play of certain leagues. Shevchenko? Kezman? Rebrov? That's just the first 3 that came in to my mind.

He played very well in a Swansea team that plays the same style of football as us. He has talent, he is 22 and can develop further. And furthermore, he is not a Luka replacement. He plays in a similar role to VDV, or maybe slightly deeper.

Spot on. I can't wait to see AVB do what Krancjar failed in his 18 months at Spurs.

i dont think sigurdsson is modric's replacement

nor do i think he is van dar vaarts replacement

nor do i think its a bad signing as some are suggesting

its a classic spurs signing and im all for that. good young player with a decent reputation, about to fully burst on to the scene in the next 1-2 seasons at a pretty good price.

even if he majorly flops (which he wont as he's proven with swans) and doesent play, by spending 10m, we wont lose much, if any at all. another german or english club would happily take a young cam for less than 10m.

good transfer, well played levy. keep em coming.

Misinformed opinion being bandied around as fact and then attacking anyone that says otherwise, stay classy Jay.

It's almost like having Gibberishy back.

'Here's a YouTube clip of Chris Hughton holding a clipboard! THIS PROVES HE'S TOTALLY INCOMPETENT!'

the GOAT just spoke lads

"NOT from our usual source, but more rumblings that Sigurdsson is 'done'. The Goat is also hearing that Swansea are trying to get Caulker on loan again. If not they are thinking about asking for Livermore."

Cheers for that. You would have thought that Clint Jenkins would have been told about Caulker/Livermore by his chairman brother?

Well said, he may also be played on the right in AVB's 3 man midfield which is a more attacking CM ie: Livermore- Sandro - Sig

I wish some posters would look past the first XI now and then, before getting the huff with rumoured incoming players. Can we at least let them play a few games before calling them a ****? Can we at least remember our place in the grand scheme of things e.g just because a certain player has never played for a top team doesn't mean he's automatically not good enough for us, it's about a team of players not a group of individual prima donnas.

IF IF We sign Bejam and he replaces Niko and Bentley for example surely this is good business, surely it is also good business to have tactical options available to change a game from the bench for once, just because a player costs under £16 million or doesn't have an exotic surname does that automatically mean he's not a player for us? Not a player to take us to this mythical "next level" we bang on about (you ever played Spurs fan bingo? You can get drunk quicker off of this one than you could off of Redknapp bingos "2 points from 8 games" ) Gahhhhhh!

Was Modric deemed not good enough when we signed him? (Wenger was wrong how many of you ate you words?)

Sorry but i needed a vent.

I blame signing Jenas for raising your expectations, the ****!

I can't imagine we will know if we can send either out for a while. After the dust settles on the new managers plans, we will know if Livermore and/or Caulker have a place in the side. Personally, I hope there is room for Caulker at least.

that would be great, cos I have a nasty feeling that Pool may still convince him to go there...

You clearly know nothing about football.
Please don't say that, it isn't nice............. For a bloke, being told that is tantamount to someone telling one that one has a small cock. Imagine stripping off to do the horizontal hokey cokey with a stunning bird only for her to roll about laughing hysterically once she catches sight of it. I should immagine it isn't a pleasant experience.

And no, it's never happened to me and I don't compensate by driving a flash car or talking about football as if my opinion were fact*

Cheers Agrdavidsfan (y)

It's just purely co-incidental that it happens to be Swansea related ITK

Sending Livermore there for a year sounds good to me as he could do with the experience, though I don't think we'll leave ourselves with only 2 DMs

Really? Then the same can be said of knowing whether Vertonghen and Sigurdsson are right for our new manager.

I'm sure, if AVB is already signed, then he could be consulted regarding that matter. He's watched Caulker and Livermore play this season and he knows about them, so, he will at least be able to make an initial decision. That's just my opinion. ;)
