Ok, why are we getting so excited by a possible £25m signing of a Brazilian player who might become a key player for a Brazil team which isn't even in the top 10 FIFA placings? Would we get as excited for a English player with the same credentials?

Fair point. However, there are very few english/british players that I can think of that has his credentials. Of those most would be completely unattainable and especially for less than 25 million. What would it cost for another English team to pick up Bale, Wilshire or even Cleverley? The thing with Oscar is that he is, at 20, an increasingly integral part of a strong midfield in the Internacional team. He is phenomenally talented and displays this on a regular basis for his team and having seen him also pull the strings for Brazil (who may not currently be in the top 10) I am quite confident we should get this done. A move to the PL would not be easy but I have a sense that if we get him you will be asking 'Modric who?' in a couple of years time.

Yeah, aren't England fourth or something?!

Soon to be 3rd because Uraguay are slipping down ( or some other country?)

I thought I'd read that Verts had done both parts of a 2 part medical? But does anyone have any idea when this medical will be completed? Isn't he meant to be training with us tomorrow?

Not sure if this has been posted or if the guy has any reputation on FTL as i'm not a member, maybe someone who is can add more to it (Taken from tottenhamhotspurs.tv)

Darrena on the Qataris

Quote:

Some of you have seen and commented on a twitter posting that I made last night and have asked me to elaborate further so here goes as I've posted this on FTL about an hour or so ago.

i worked the shard celebratory party/banquet last night - we've recently taken on the shards management company as clients in a deal that will see us become the preferred vendor offered to their occupants, deal which if takes off will see our firm grow substantially overnight.
anyway, i picked up their operations director from old billingsate mkt which was where it was held. lovely bloke and ive driven for him a couple of times before. so we got chatting about whether the event was a success and he said remarkably so and started banging on about the qatari's and how when they invest they only do it in capital cities (i guess this explains the PSG investment too). So i chimed in and said that there were a hell of a lot of rumours going about that they were on the verge of some kind of investment in spurs - to which he looked at me and basically said "yes, thats 100 correct".
Now as i dont know the bloke too well i really didnt want to press the bloke on what kind of investment thats going to be - whether its merely a naming rights deal or something even more substantial but this bloke is definitely not a bullsh*tter. The Qatar's have laid down £2bn on the shard and the surrounding buildings. They are well aware that their oil reserves are not bottomless and that to make sure they secure their families wealth for more than the next 100 years they need to tap into new markets.
The Manager of the Qatari National Bank was at the function last night and is by all accounts a smashing bloke - he'll be at the grand prix on sunday courtesy of the guy i drove last night who has given him his platinum tickets.

I would have thought that he would do his medical tomorrow. Ajax had their first week of training last week and he did that, so missing one day won't hurt!

Ah my bad then, I thought he was referring to Silverstone today so thought it might be new. Like I say i'm not a member of FTL so don't know when it was posted
Don't let that put you off! People are always needed to get info. One day it might be the Messi to Spurs link you find and you will be hailed as a God of ITK. Never give up the quest for ITK!

Brazil are only outside the top 10 because they have had very little competitive games played, because after all they are not doing the world cup qualification. Also any player which most people don't know too much about, which commands such a fee is bound to bring excitment, regardless of the real ability of the said player

So we have added Gylfi and Jan to the squad, I wonder who will be next. Adebayor? Oscar? Fryers? Someone else? Next week could be very interesting

Looks like we're getting our business done early for a change! So I agree, next week could be very interesting indeed.

Would love a striker or two to come in next week. I should imagine Ade will be the next to be official.

I hope with all these incomings we manager to get a few to leave otherwise we could have quite an expensive reserve side.

A striker surely has to be next though, closely followed by a keeper would be nice

we may still need - Keeper, LB (or cover) RM, 2 Forwards.

though if we keep Bentley and give him a crack and gio we may not need RM and same for LB if rose stays.

Most who know Darren as a poster say he's skeptical about ITK so if he's saying its true then it may well be the real deal.

Prof at COYS posted an info dump from Galahad the Gnome (COYSequivalent of the Goat):

"A collection of recent snippets from the garden pond fisherman.

Nothing to trouble Benny Foz's beard, but some stuff that will be of interest to many of us.

Modric: "Nothing is set in stone, you know what our chairman's like. All depends on whether DL gets what he wants. He's held firm before, he'll do it again if he isn't okay with an offer."

King: "Not a chance that he is leaving Spurs. Would never play anywhere else. We'll look after him, whether that is involving him with coaching or increasing his work in the community, in which he is already very active. Everyone was devastated with what happened last year. He was playing in so much pain because the club needed him to. Should have had surgery then and sat out rest of season but put it off. Knee injury related to training ground collision with a youth team keeper (not Townsend as was reported)."

Adebayor: "It should happen. He likes it here. There really is a great team spirit. It's true that a large slice of his wages go to his charity in Togo to help disabled people find work."

Caulker: "We have high hopes. Class act. Came through late but has got big potential. Quiet but leads by example. Scum came in for him after Youth Cup game couple of seasons back but were rebuffed."

VDV: "We've made lots of efforts to land Sylvie with some TV work over here since arriving, but without success. Feeling is that he doesn't want to go, but while she was initially ok with the traveling to and fro, she's not sure about now."

Gomes: "Tony Parkes rates him as the best keeper at the club. Waiting to see what AVB thinks. Club looking at two other keepers, one in UK, one overseas."

AVB: "Lads being called in for double sessions. Training under HR was very old school but a lot of fun. Going to be very different from now on. We'll see what they think of that. Whether he succeeds is mainly a matter of whether our players can buy into his training and tactical ideas. We don't have the massive egos that CFC do which should help."

Bale: "Has physically developed even more. He's a beast, but does have problems with niggling injuries."

Sandro: "Still doesn't speak very good English. He is far and away our fittest player."

Bentley/Jenas: "Exploring the idea of a new deal. We want to get something back from our 16m. Did the same with Jenas and would sell him in a heartbeat for a decent offer."

Gallas: "Popular and well respected, has a year on his deal and we wouldn't be unhappy if he saw it out."

Oscar: "A bid is not the same thing as a completed transfer. Takes three sides - both clubs and the player - to agree to a deal."

Investment: "We always listen to offers for investment, whether that be minority or majority, and evaluate them against the specific parameters that DL/JL have for what they want. If they do agree to a deal it will be one DL believes will leave THFC in a far stronger position than where we are now. Anything less and it's goodbye. There are things being discussed but nothing that can be - or we want to be - announced yet. Rest assured DL desperately wants us to be a successful club on the biggest stage."

Sponsorship: "Under Armour. A very big deal for them and they are using us to launch themselves into football. Much better for us to be in this situation than with a brand like Nike where we'd always be behind the big boys. Shirt material will provide data to help us analyse performance."

Europa League: "If we'd finished sixth we'd agreed to play the home leg of the Qualifying Round in August at Ipswich Town, due to the Olympics."

Transfers: "Lots of clubs interested in lots of our players, including many we'd like shot of. We've baited our rod to try and catch some big fish. Individually none are more than 50/50 but we have some confidence that we can get at least one of them to bite. It's not easy though competing with the financial resources of some other clubs."

Thanks, as ever, to Galahad's sources."
