Has this been confirmed?

I know Internacional were interested.
Yeh it's done, they also bought in Marcos Aurelio from Coritiba not so long ago and Dagoberto earlier in the year too.

So currently they have 5 strikers on their books (including Jo).

We don't have the cash to spunk 20m on a player who can't come right into the first team and make an impact. Chelsea can do that with Lukaku because they're rich as hell. Giroud and Podolski were both 10-12m... the price for a striker I'd take.
Its not the same situation though, you seem to be misunderstanding the point I made

As a Brazilian who'd never played outside of his native land he would take half a season just to adjust culturally I feel, any young Brazilian like that would be an investment (the same reason the likes of Ronaldo and Ronaldhio started their Euro career in Holland and France before playing for the bigger teams)

We'd be paying £20m because we expect him to become say a £30m or a £40m striker once he adjusts and fulfils his potential.

He would't be brought in like Lukaku at Chelsea, they basically bought him to stop others buying him and because they can afford to blanket buy young talent in the hope a percentage of them go on to big things.

We would be buying this guy because we have scouted him for several years and are very sure about his ability and his potential to be a success.

That doesn't however change the fact he is a young kid from a different continent who may well not speak the language and could take a while to adjust to a new culture, away from his family and friends etc etc. Ok having Sandro around would help but he would still need time to adapt, adjust to his new life and find his feet before he could be expected to show his best form on a consistent basis.

I think it would be ideal to have a player like Adebayor who we can bring in for a small fee (and hopefully not bank breaking wages) to be the main man while Leandro adjusts and finds his form with some sub and rotation appearances whilst being groomed as our long term main striker.

Whether that meant that in a year or two Adebayor was moved on or we played a formation that could accommodate the pair I don't know.

To be fair I agree, in as far as I don't actually think this one will happen now (I don't even think he will be sold at this time) but I am disagreeing with your logic as to why you feel it COULD NOT happen because I don't agree that we would not or could not pay this type of money for someone we thought would go on to be a superstar just because they would need some time to adjust to his new league and not be brought into the first team straight away.

SPICE BOYS!! Guess we should have trusted Ole Gibbsy after all!! :D

from Nish on COYS:

At the bar: Bale, JJ, Bentley, tommy, jake and a few others here.

Lads it was pretty interesting. Unfortunately
I'm nursing a mental hangover and came in an hour late for work. Pics and deets to follow.

Quick summary - the english lads were out, so were a couple of page 3 girls apparently, the european players stayed away but the night ended with a number of happy drunk spurs players going upstairs to after party with the girls and me and my mates going home like losers with nothing but a bit of largely irrelevant itk and a few happy snaps with idols who are ultimately all a bit normal (albeit loaded)

It is believed we shall let the big financial guns like chelskum and citeh cite their targets whilst we work away competently. We remain confident on our extensive list of targets as talks progress secretly. Make of that what you will...

then followed by

It is honestly best that some things be kept confidential mate and allow the club to do what they need to do.

some more by Jasper on SO

on Oscar

Most already know that contrary to popular belief our belief was that Oscar is OTT price wise and believes his other targets are as good if not even better.

somebody replied

Absolutely. Internacional couldn't believe their luck when Chelski entered the bidding. They may of stretched our 11m offer to say 14-15m max but when RA waded in they knew they could take the p*ss and demand over 25m. It was an auction we sensibly stayed well away from.

Oscar looks class but there is plenty of talent out there at sensible prices!

You are nailed on there my friend.

At least AVB wasn't propping up the bar alongside them.

not been smart or funny but wasnt hazrad and oscar both serious targets of ours? if rumours are believed we agreed fee for oscar but chelsea came in and out bid us. same with hazard i would imagine.

man city only want rvp right ? really dont see how they affect us in any way in terms of targets.

and yes sorry i dont make much of it unless he means we are waiting for the arabs and roman to be flat broke before we make a move for any player who might fancy a go at premiership!!!!

They're taking a big risk drinking on duty in Gibbsy's manor. He would have posted a massive thread with pictures and changing font sizes and colours if he were still here.
This post is discussing the ITK by the way.

Shoot me down if you want... Should fringe players be getting drunk when there's a serious amount of work to be put in, before the season starts in just over 3 weeks? New tactics, new manager, new staff, new ethos. I'm not talking a Capello military-style training camp...but it's not a busman's holiday where a bloke who's working away with the lads...can down his tools after a 14 hour shift and have a skinful in the evening with his workmates and get up for work in the morning...it's a work assignment abroad, at one of the highest pay levels in the world... where you're body needs to be at it's absolute best. They had a month to do all this malarkey...I LOVE a good piss up (probably too much), but when you're getting paid tens of thousands of pounds a week...before a vital season for the club? Seriosusly?

Call me old fashioned (and I'm only 31), but I know amateur athletes (around the same ages as those players) that would balk at the thought of partying when they're competing in competitions they're not even getting paid for.

Nish added:

To be fair to them, they WERE not causing trouble nor were they even remotely rowdy. They weren't that much more than tipsy so I apologize if I over played how aggressively they were going after it. Honestly it was a calm affair and it just looked like some guys who'd been in a match and were unwinding after. None of them were acting unprofessionally at all. But the girls were cute. Think one of them was called Leilani (and a page 3 model).

Cool. I guess I'm just getting an old fuddy-duddy cos I worry about this club and it's future probably too much in my old age!! ;) Leilani...yep Kieran Dyer's ex missus!
