If in Levy is our "unofficial" DoF with the consultation of Pleat, Sherwood amongst others (if you believe the ITK), why don't we just get a well respected European based DoF who is versed in the style, philosophy and future plans of AVB and get him to scour the globe for the next generation of talent in every major continent of the world?

It is nice to be linked with the likes of the Llorente's and Moutinho's but what does it ever amount to? In the meantime, United go and get Chicarito for £7m, Fulham get hold of Dembele for £5m and Newcastle get Tiote and Cabaye for a combined £7m. All of those players, and their prices, are all perfectly within our reach regardless of what European competition we are playing in and the wage structure we have. Just because these players have been snapped doesn't mean that they then cease to exist.

When you look at how well clubs like Lyon and Sevilla have competed in recent times it can be done so I do not know why we don't just bite the bullet and employ a DoF than continue with this bastardised half and half set up we currently operate with.

Well this just looks v.bad and the future looks bleak if Levy is now going from what the "unofficial DOF" is telling him ( Sherwood??? ) and not AVB's wishes...and as others have said these players are going to know that the manager doesn't want them and refuse to sign. If this happens then it will all unravel v.quickly and we will look ridiculous on a massive scale.

The chairman will have really fucked up this transfer window for us if he goes ahead and signs players that the manager doesn't want. Leaving key signings until this late has cost us points, but making ones that the manager doesn't want is going to waste money as well.

So if Moutinho is a deadline day special and plan A. Fair to assume we won't go for Dembele (or another CM) before we have closure on Mouts.

So we make our move for Moutinho Friday AM. Likely we fail. Then turn attentions to Dembele (or another CM) Friday PM.

I'm nervous.

Levy is the unofficial director of football, JJ has stated so many times

Yeah, that's the way it will go. We'll get loads of ITK before then but really it wont matter until Thursday night/Friday morning arrives. That's when we'll move.

Sorry i wasnt aware of this i thought it was Sherwood as it was talked about when the big clean up happened sorry.:(

Easy mistake to make, we seem to hear a thousand different things on a daily basis (y) doubt any of us can keep up with everything that gets said.

I'm sure AVB wouldn't have taken the position if he knew we were not serious in the transfer market, he would've given Levy targets to work on (in agreement of course). If you look at who we are supposed to be letting go, then it speaks for itself what players are coming in.

I'm sure come Friday, we will all be happy.....this is opinion only btw.

It's usual to have some discrepancy between players that the manager would like and players that the guys upstairs would prefer.

Don't forget that AVB is head coach, he's not a Fergie type manager with unlimited power across the entire club. I'm sure he was quite aware before he came in that transfer recruitment would be a collective effort.

I'm nearly certain you'll be proven correct mate. And I'm not happy about it at all.

In a way, I'd sooner have Dembele than Moutinho. Less risk.

AVB would be able to make it work. At the end of the day isn't he pretty similar to Moutinho?

Plus, Dembeles stock will go up. We then hold the aces, club makes shed loads of money etc etc when we sell these rough diamonds on.

That's what we need.

Rough diamonds.

Yes that sounds a bit poncey...

To be fair, I'd take Dempsey off of Fulhams hands too. :)

For christ's sake. This is getting as boring as watching the four-yearly england debacle: fail to invest in youth and coaching development, have no players being exposed to playing abroad, hype ourselves to jupiter and back then complain when we get knocked out of a tournament at the first knockout stage and blame and sack the manager, while overlooking the bigger picture.
With spurs its: employ next flavour of the month manager amid blaze of hyperbole and bullshit itk about levy's big push, and giving him the money for some absurd shopping list of a grade a players, ship out the last bloke's squad players, revert to type and play hard ball, subsequently missing out on all the players the new guy wanted/ was promised. leave squad unbalanced, start season poorly then blame new guy for failing to get players in or being tactically inept. Repeat ad fucking nauseum.
