I hear you shelfie, and you're certainly one of the more balanced and rationale posters on here mate, believe me you are - and you know your onions.

But I just think we might be ok, it wouldn;t surprise me if we score more goals this season and our better off the ball - proving to be more effective overall without being as easy on the eye.

I agree we need that craft and intelligence to get the ball moving up field quickly, taking it off the CBs and using it well, recycling etc I still think Dembele can do this to a degree, I've watched a lot of him and his defensive work on top of that could make him a very important player for us this season - in a partnership with Sandro/Parker.

Ultimately Modric and VDV out in one full swoop is hard to get the head around, it really is. However I still think AVB could do well with this sqaud, we look more powerful looking that;s for sure - wouldn't surprise me at all if we score more direct sort of goals and excel on the road.

I'm with you Pinky, I would respond in greater detail but I need some sleep to rest my brain and F5 finger as I hear we have a game tomorrow or something?

I think we're going to spank Norwich tomorrow.

I feel so "meh" about this transfer window. Overall I think we've made great individual signings, and all of them make sense in their own way. But still, the squad feels lacking. Gutted about not getting Moutinho and losing VDV. Although I think we have a great starting XI which is slightly stronger than our best XI last season.

But it's strange, we seem to have a never-ending supply of deadwood. We sell 12 players and we still have the likes of Jenas, Bentley around as well as the manager trying to shift Huddlestone and Dawson. I dread to think what reactions would have been today if we had sold those 2.

After hours of thinking it over, I'm extremely worried about the winter period. At a time where there is a lot of PL games, Europa league, as well as potential League cup fixtures (also possible postponed rearrangements), we have a massively thin squad.

  • Only Bale, Lennon, Dempsey and Bentley on the wings
  • One natural LB with 1/2 backups
  • Only 4 first team Cbs
  • Obvious striker situation
This isn't a great situation and as I said worrying. Lloris and Vertonghen will also need time adapting to the English game and the playing through the winter, as I think they have winter breaks in Belgium and France.

To be honest, looking at the squad as a whole, it's not great and I'm finding it hard to be optimistic about the coming season.

I cant see how we are better than last season, We lost three of our very best players, King, Modric and VDV. I don't believe we have upgraded on those.

Of course we need to see how the new team plays, it could just be the best window ever, at the moment I am just not seeing it.

We've also got Townsend for the wings, but then I doubt Bentley will see any more first team football than he did last season.

I think he is a bargain for £6m, it is only disappointing because we hoped for Llorente and Moutinho.

I think this is why I'm so peeved, bought into the whole hype that avb was going to be backed and this would finally be the TW where we would address ALL our weaknesses. Also the sale of vdv without moutinho leaves a very bitter taste.

Alas, no point in hoping for next year cos it will be same shit, different year until whoever is fucking up these deals gets his act together.

What I can say is that all the US Spurs fans are gonna be jizzing in their pants. JIZZING IN THEIR PANTS.
Well I hope it gets us a bit more attention over there at least. My (US based) girlfriend keeps taking the piss over nobody there knowing who we are!

Proper funny this.

A week ago I was pretty sure we wouldn't be signing anyone much in the last few days. I was predicting us to finish around about 6-8th, and was reasonably happy with that (since this is a transitional season).

After the last few days and the signings we've made I'm over the moon, especially considering that the teams around us have done next to fuck all in the last few weeks (apart from lose their best players, Arsenal).

I'm now expecting us to challenge for the top 4, and I never would've expected that a week or two ago.

I'm gutted about VDV but I don't think we'd have gotten too much game time out of him this season. Moutinho (who isn't actually called 'Mouts', dear God that fucks me off) would've been a ridiculously brilliant icing-on-the-cake signing to tie everything together in the middle of the field but fuck me what a lovely bloody cake we've got. Who knows he may happen in January or next summer.

And Lloris! Hugo fucking Lloris!

He's like one of those dreams signings we get led on about like when someone mentions Falcao or Llorente and they never happen because they always go to a bigger club, but didgery-fucking-doodle-me we've somehow signed one of the top 5 keepers in world football for about £3.60 and a packet of Monster Munch!

So hilarious that people are out to kill themselves over this, absolutely amazingly funny.

Oh and I forgot the best thing - we made some money. For some reason lots of people (who clearly don't understand business or, well, LIFE) seem to thnk that this is an awfully terrible thing and really our beloved club should be losing as much net cash as humanly possible every window. Myself, I like to think about the fact that we've got another £10m in the bank ready to spend on future players or our massively-expensive but oh-so-worth-it infastructure projects...

Oh and one little tip for the angry and loud - do yourself a favour and don't believe the ITK's.

Some are on the wind-up, some are wild mass guessing, some are after attention and a few, a very, very tiny few, are actually In The Know. But whether it's Twitter bollocks or source-revealed Goat-based secret info, none of it is actually true. It doesn't matter what names they're linking us with or what they're revealing from behind the scenes - none of it is verified by the actual sources and so none of it, absolutely none of it, is true. Until it's on the OS...

That also means your wild conspiracy theories about how Levy is actually POTL and his army of fake ITK's is working to suppress you and lead you on are also untrue. Just screaming 'it's all about profit!!!' doesn't mean it actually is so - it means you've typed the letters out and added unnecessary punctuation. Then some div has agreed with you or liked your post. He's not correct either, you're both guessing.

NO-ONE knows the true stories or what the real agendas are - the more you keep that in your minds, the less stressed you'll get over this whole thing.

Chill, no-one's got this.

Ok, vdv - a legend!

BUT he is suffering from a bad hamstring and is 30 (Soon to be?)

We got 10 mill for him and got a player scoring more goals in --> dempsey!

Lovely business! And I love vdv...

there is now a distinct lack of any world class/high profile players in the team with any appeal (Bale is the last man standing).
we seem to have lost a lot of character. No king, mods or VdV, even Kranjcar and charlie to a certain extent.
I guess this is the beginning of a new era.

Not everyone's ready to let go yet.

But wasn't that exactly what (15m) Dembele was Steve. The "Arteta" contingency ? Not exactly the same as Moutinho (and I think both would have been nice) but a very decent alternative (and hardly bargain basement at 15m). And isn't Sigurdsson the contingency plan for the loss of VDV ? I wouldn't swap him, but if it's contingencies you want - we have them don't we ?

I'm not over the moon either, I think VDV will be an even harder package than Modric to compensate for, but I don't think we had a choice with either player, and I don't think any of the first choice options were easy for us to do. We have signed Adsebayor now and Dempsey is at least a better back up than Fraser Campbell was.

I think a midfield that included Dembele/Sandro and Moutinho would have been damn good, and clearly, clearly we worked hard to make Moutinho happen. I'm a tad disappointed but there is a reason we have to do deals like this, it's the only way we can afford them. Sometimes It's a choice of trying to get a top quality player at a discount or making your contingency options your first choices. Moutinho was 32m until yesterday. Lloris was 15m etc.

I wonder. I don't think Dem is a contingency on mout as he's a very different player. He likes to run with the ball. Sig isn't even close to VDV imo, lacks his personality, all round game and ability.

I think you more than anyone will understand how we've lost the brains from our side and we've signed players who don't compare. Dem will take on a player when a pass is easier. Sig will be anonymous for large parts of games. They aren't able to replace the creativity and intelligence that we lost. Dempsey is intelligent and makes the absolute most of his limited ability. But in a team of Walkers, Bales and Lennon's is it enough?

I don't have an extensive knowledge of world football but Cazorla and Granero are contingencies to me. I'm sure there are others.

I know we can't afford top dollar. But as naive as it sounds I would've flogged Defoe for decent money and made sure on Mout. Dempsey surely must be back up to Ade now in case of injury and we've got Kane as well (or did have). I just think Mout (or someone else with brains and passing) was so important this window. We'll be ok, hard working and disciplined and we'll have a decent season in and around the top 4. But I fully expect to read your match reports bemoaning our lack of intelligence in and around the box at times and I hope you blame neither the manager or the players. We know what we've got now and we have to make the most of it.

I can't even sleep after all that.

Regarding Harry Kane, is he even going to get many games at Norwich? They look pretty well covered already with Morison and Holt.

That's a stupid thing to say. I'm American and could care less about American players.

My bad. I have a clear sense of ignorance upon me and for that I apologise.....notice how 'apologise' is spelt with a 's' not a 'z' (y)
