Wow, what a night! I for one am quite happy with our business, don't get me wrong I did want a nice portugese present however we have gained six 1st teamers and think we are stronger in depth than before. We have lost some creativity however in a 433 you would expect Bale/Lennon/Dempsey to score more goals than in a 442 system and hopefully make up for that.
Last week before Ratface left there was a 50/50 split in here between who wanted Dembele and who wanted Mouts, now everyones suicidal because we didn't get both. If Dembele can control the midfield like he did for fulham against ManU, something we have been missing for years imo we will be fine.

Am I missing something? Did we not sign clint Dempsey and he's a striker!! So we do have backup for Ade!
Sorry you think Dempsey can play up top on his own? Really? Maybe Kane couldn't either but would like to see him in the Europa maybe.

I'm sorry but in levy we trust is bull shit. He has failed us in too many windows because of his big ego.

Another massive opportunity gone. He only cares about money and not our success on the pitch. If results are not great up to Xmas AVB will be sacked and it's all Levy's fault, he's had months to sort it out.

Yes he got players on the cheap but how does that benefit us from a football point of view? We can go on all day saying how well he did getting Lloris at that price and we saved millions. Millions that should have been spent elsewhere and wasnt. Levy has failed us and it's not good enough. I'm not saying we should spend silly money but lets try to break even at some point. Great business model, poor football model!

Devastated we lost Rafa... but for family reasons, I can understand...
Very pleased with Dembele, who I think will be a real star for us... Dempsey will get us goals, I have no doubt about that.. always hated it when he played against us...great arial threat..
I think we all know what Hugo will bring to the team (y)

So, window still open in France and Russia (?), do we see any players leaving? I would't mind shipping Jenas and Bentley to Siberia...

I just don't think this argument stacks up buddy.

Modric, Kranjcar, Gio, VDV, Corluka, Bassong etc all sold for cash money. We got rid of a manager who finished 4th for a new one and I was happy, but the key was to back him. You could say he has been backed, but IMO not enough. I understand we're not Citsea, but I expected a good net spend for a new manager who is a massive risk in this league.

Now we have a squad full of decent players, lost a few outstandings and haven't even got players you can see comfortably playing AVB's 4-3-3. It's almost Ramos-esq.

I didn't see too many clubs selling 40m worth of their best players either by the way.

Arsenal did, but Liverpool just let somebody else borrow theirs.

Some posters on here are making ridiculous comments; yes its disappointing that VDV and Modric are gone but both wanted to go (for different reasons) and we got good deals on both. Moutinho was unfortunately but I'm sure we will be back in January for him.
On the positive side, we have signed Verthongen, one of Europe's most accomplished defenders, Dempsey, one of the Premierships most consistent goalscoring midfielders who is able to cover on the wing, Dembele, a powerful attacking central midfielder with brilliant technique and one of the best Goalkeepers in the world In Lloris.

Both Kane and Rose have been loaned out to Premiership sides where they will hopefully get great exposure and we got rid of a lot of fringe players that did not fit the AVB philosophy.

On the squad gaps that have been mentioned? Both Naughton and Smith will be given a chance to cover the fullback slots. Dempsey and Townsend will come in on the wings in necessary and we have more in the central midfield than we've ever had including Carroll who may be afforded a few more developmental minutes.

All in all very encouraging that we have become a much more dynamic side with a few more physically competitive players.

Guys, take a look in the Dempsey thread at Spursking's youtube vid.

You will see -

A player who scores with his head. His right foot. His left foot. Provides. Can score from free kicks. And has that typical never say die American attitude. Now who on here would have preferred we got Carroll, Giroud, Podolski, Borrini? Not me, for one.

He takes free kicks with his right. Verts with his left. Siggy takes a mean corner. All those things, to my mind, show that we have at last addressed our woeful ineptitude at set pieces. I feel like pretty everyone else on here, gutted that we missed out on Moutinho, but come on peeps, there are a lot of positives.

Let's move onto January window - Leandro and Moutinho for a combined 45m and get rid of Bentley, Jenas, Gomes and possibly Dawson for a total of 15m

If we did that this window it would have been a Carlsberg window

I think we will be much stronger without the ball, dembele is better than modric at charging players down and tackling. Him and sandro will be tough to match, even parker too. Dempsey is a clever player who will give us a different edge up front, again he works extremely hard off the ball.

Wasn't there ITK a while back saying that AVB wanted a new scouting system? This would be a great idea for us IMO as we could find talent before it becomes too expensive.
