Wasn't there ITK a while back saying that AVB wanted a new scouting system? This would be a great idea for us IMO as we could find talent before it becomes too expensive.

Don't we already have a new scouting system? We buy Liverpools targets...

No not to much but from what I have seem to remeber Zamora or AJ or the Russian lad now at Reading playing with him. Sorry is that wrong then?

Dempsey played up top on his own a lot for Fulham when Bobby Z had that terrbible injury. The point is yes he can play up top on his own. He holds it up, scores headers, right foot, left foot and he works his balls off closing down. He`s PL proven, imo he`s a far better option as a 3rd choice striker than Harry Kane.

Lloris on his own is the single most exciting signing for a while, I just hope he lives up to my expectations.

Siggi to me will easily replace VDV and add the extra tenacity that I felt VDV was always missing.

Dembele though, will add that extra speed we sometimes lack through the middle to really open up teams, Modric was great but allowed the opposition to easily fall back in numbers whilst he crafted his passing.

I'm OK with the end result. Watched Modric become pretty ordinary for us last year. Had a few good games, but not the player of years previous. We've now replaced him with a midfield of stronger, proven premier league players, who I hope can fit the system AVB wants to play. Excellent purchases in Verts and Lloris, kept Daws, brought Naughton back in, Caulker at the back.
I don't give a monkeys if Bentley and Jenas are still at the club, doesn't matter. It's now about AVB and what he can do.

Not just me then...:)

Have we really got just 2 strikers at the club now? Along with no back up to Benny and no back up to our wide players the make up of our squad looks really strange.

On the positive side think Dembele and Lloris will be very good signings, completely underwhelmed by Dempsey.

Dempsey is perfectly capable of playing as a striker. And also wide.

Dont you think making. 15m profit this window shows a lack of ambition and/or a lack of money. A new manager should hav been given 20m plus sale money fr players he wants

lennon not with us nemre or am i missing something?

Fair enough I thought he was more play behind the striker type player. For the record I haven't once knocked Dempsey and think its a decent signing just wasn't convinced he is cover for Ade.

One thing that is overlooked is our new stadium situation, so we are making profits on transfers however if this is reinvested and we are not lumbered with the same level of debt as the scum then that's all good, remember AVB is a long time project

With Dempsey now in the team, does this mean we may threaten from set pieces with his aerial ability?... or am i being far too optimistic??

stop talking rubbish ,we didnt spend a penny of our own money, its the usual transfer deadline "we just missed out" scenario,we are not going to do top 4 on the cheap its as simple as that ,moutinho was/is the key to avb's plans ,everything would revolve around him on the field just as with scholes for utd who had to be coaxed out of retirement such was the difference his absence had made, it cannot be overstated what a blow this is to avb's plans so with all this in mind and being that we were so close to signing him can i assume there is a pre-contract in place for jan or will we just leave it until about 10.45pm on 31st jan and hope for the best

I knew a girl once, who`s motto was why spend your own money when you can spend someone else`s....:)

It really was so close to being an amazing window, if we had got Mouts in, only thing I will say is the guys we have got in and replaced are a lot more physical and suited to playing away from home.

I felt Modric and VDVaart were excellent at the lane when we were attacking but coming away from home they were often non existent and a major reason why we never did well from set plays.

Dembele and Dempsey are both over 6 foot and will improve us in that department.

Dempsey is the one that I am slowly coming round to, my mate is a big Liverpool fan and desperately wanted him, saying that he would get 20 goals a season, I honestly believe now that he probably is our most natural goal scorer and has to play off the right instead of Lennon, Bale is a beast and delivers so many balls but in a 433 only the RW and CF have a chance on getting on the end of the crosses, Dempsey will do that all day long, Lennon failed to do that 5-6 times last week

He is a more behind the striker type player, but he can also play the lone striker role if needed. I`m not knocking you at all, I just trying to make the point that he could do the job as 3rd option if required.

I don't really understand how people can be happy...yes we signed some decent players, but we tore the heart out of a top four side with Modric and VdV and have not adequately replaced them in any sense, our midfield is now massively weakened and I'm not really sure how anyone can claim otherwise. We now have literally 0 creativity in midfield. The new manager wanted Moutinho and Willian... he got Clint Dempsey as a desperation signing who will now be the walking talking symbol of this window's failure, we will do well to finish in the top 6 this year and if we continue to play like we did last weekend AVB will be gone by Christmas...how can you bring in a new manager and not back him?

While many will regret the departure of Modric and VDV, we should remember that one was desperate to leave and the other rarely had an impact for 90 mins, and was bound to exert less influence on games. We got a decent price for both players. Importantly, the squad is a lot more youthful and with the addition of a couple of players we are very close to being the real deal.

At last, some one who looks at the bigger picture! 100% agree my friend! Football at the moment is all about money and if we can keep a strong squad and pay off a lot of the stadium then we will be in a fantastic position! As for people slating Levy, new Stadium on its way, one of the best training grounds in the world and a new manager who is young and hungry!

Optimistic about our future! In my mind this season is a year of transition where we lay the foundation for years to come. This means an overhaul of our squad and implementing a new playing system. Levy and AVB also knows this and I dont think AVB will get the sack if we miss out on 4th. The transfer window was very good for us IMO, although i like everyone else would have preferred Mouts also coming, but i am thankful that we dont conduct our business like QPR (a future pompey imo).

COYS! Hopefully our boys will prove all the pessimists, doubters and Levy haters wrong today!

I'm happy with the signings we have made but just plain baffled about Mr M. Shame would of been a lovely signing.
