This really is a shame. It's great that we have bought a great goalkeeper that can hopefully be around for many years, but Friedal has been a great goalie for many years, he has barely put a foot wrong for us, and has been one of our top 3 players this season so for. Didn't deserve to lose the streak.

I agree it's a shame, though wasn't there a rumour in the week, that Friedel was injured? Maybe he still has a slight niggle, so AVB thought a fit Lloris was the better bet? Does anyone know for sure?

Today, Lloris was able to prevent two opportunities that would almost certainly have been goals providing a Villa player hit the target by being proactive and coming out early. I'm a big fan of how steady Friedel has been for us but let's get this straight, there is absolutely no way he would have got out to cut off the danger like Lloris.

Wonderful achievement for the guy, i'm really pleased a nice guy like him holds this sort of record as opposed to Lampard or someone equally despicable, but all good things have to come to an end.

Also to add to the Friedel fact above:
Last time Friedel missed a match, Hugo Lloris played for the Nice U17 team

Super achievement but I'd reckon he's pissed he couldn't nominate Villa to be his last game and get congratulations from both sets of fans.... I know he's not retired but we all know he's effectively retired now

Still a lot of games to play this season for all four of our goalkeepers.

Thing is, what happens in EL now? ;p Friedel in or Cudicini? Or Lloris keeps spot. Will be interesting seeing as AVB said the keepers all need game time.

Hahahaha what? You all overrate this guy so much, you are desperate for him to come good. That was basic goalkeeping, reading the play and coming off the line to cover it, we've seen Brad, Gomes, fucking hell even Carlo has done that a couple times.

All in all it is a strange decision. Been one of our best players this season, one of our best and most consistent players over the past 1.5 years, and showed no signs at all of letting up. Clearly influenced from one of the higher ups at the club.

If your referring to the two where he came out and kicked overhit through balls, i would expect a Sunday morning goalkeeper to have done that.

You miss the point. Lloris is on of the top goalkeepers in the world. yes. Did Friedel deserve to be dropped, no way. 1, maybe 2 mistakes in 15 months.

He also gave away a chance with a dreadful throw that we were ridiculously lucky wasn't punished because apparently Benteke couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Added to that, his distribution generally was pretty average.

He had a solid game and the couple of times he came off his line he did well but lets not pretend it was a goalkeeping masterclass that cemented his no.1 status. Both keepers have positives and negatives and both should still be in the mix for the jersey.
