Lloris - 7. Solid display.

Walker - 7.5. Best game he has had this season. Strong defending

Dawson - 6.5. Glad he was in the team and captain. Should be ahead of Gallas, however his insistence on hoofing does frustrate.

Gallas - 6. Did ok, a bit like Dawson was not particularly good on the ball tonight.

Vertonghen - 7. Dealt with Stirling well tonight. Suarez did not get much joy down that side either.

Lennon - 6.5. Good to see him get his goal by actually getting involved and gambling across his marker.

Sandro - 6. Not a great game today. Lost the game in the 2nd half. Chased around, but could not really get possession.

Dembele - 6.5. Similar to Sandro, he got tired in the second half and we conceded a lot of possession as a consequence.

Bale - 9. Man of the Match by a country mile. When he plays, he can win games on his own. He basically did tonight.

Dempsey 6.5 - Not a bad performance, but nothing of any note to mention.

Defoe - 5. Offered nothing tonight in my opinion. With the way the game panned out, it showed how much we needed to bring on an Ade type player to offer the hold up play that Defoe does in a limited manner.

Lloris - 7 - Calm, composed, sometimes slightly bit rash with clearance but meh

Walker - 7.5 - Best game all season I feel!

Dawson - 6.5 - Some stupid diagonal balls and very sloppy play (esp in 2nd) but dealt with cross threats well

Gallas - 6 - Looks a finished man, lucky to not score an OG

Vertonghen - 7 - Feel at LB he's more use going forward than defending, can't wait to see him at CB

Lennon - 7 - Defensively sound, anonymous through most. Was in the right place for the crucial opener.

Sandro - 6 - Terrible by his standards. Out-muscled; losing the ball, misplacing passes? Worrying or just an off day for the beast?

Dembele - 7 - Showed signs of why we all love him - The way he glides past players <3 Faded a lot and sometimes rusty.

Bale - 8 - Shame about the dive and OG. But electric and so up for this game, amazing run for first and nice tracking back throughout.

Dempsey 6.5 - Improving constantly, some nice link up play and runs. Did well to involve himself given backs against wall 70 mins almost.

Defoe - 6 - Isolated, not really his fault, snatched at chances he had I felt.

All about Bale! We played well first half second half was poor though. Anyone else listen to talk sport tonight. Collymore and the other guy were very complimentary about spurs. And watching football first thus far again very complimentary about Avb and spurs! Media shift perhaps???

Lloris - 6 - Some dodgy rushing out today. What on earth he was thinking about on Henderson's chance I don't know.

Walker - 8 - Would've been a different result without Kyle today. Really positive game but still lets players go past him far too easily which I just cannot understand with his pace.

Dawson - 6 - Dodgy passes and his hoofing just gives away the ball. Him and Gallas looked very shakey together.

Gallas - 5 - Don't know what's happened to him but he's become totally unrecognisable from the player he once was. No leadership and looks scared whenever he's involved. Great tackle on Suarez though.

Vertonghen - 6 - Some sloppy passing as most of his team mates.

Lennon - 6.5 - Good first 20 mins then faded offensively because we stopped playing football. Worked very hard defensively though.

Sandro - 6 - Off the pace a bit today and some really sloppy passing. Didn't look like himself.

Dembele - 6 .- Still rusty.

Bale - 8 - The main offensive threat we have - if he gets injured then I don't even want to think about where the goals will come from.

Dempsey 5 - So limited. We are in urgent need of an upgrade in this position.

Defoe - 3 - Just terrible today but wasn't helped at all in the second half by his team mates.

There is a weird mentality in our players, where we just seem to sit back when we take a lead. This has been going on for years and years now. Why do we keep doing this to ourselves over and over?

We stop running, pressing, moving to help team mates, drop deep and sit back and then just hoof the ball away. We just seem to panic, instead of just trying to keep playing football and passing and moving. So many times Walker and Verthongen got passed to under pressure and no-one was moving in to help them out and looked just to be hoping that they would solve it on their own. It's inexcusable. Where's the leadership and responsibility? No-one seems to step up.

AVB - So much to work on. We will probably look better defensively once Ekotto and Kaboul are back but he needs to start addressing our passing and movement, not just offensively, but all over the pitch.

Agree with this I think, although I thought Dempsey was perhaps as anonymous as Defoe.

Brendan Rodgers gets a -7 for being a complete dipstick.

I concur with the general consensus
Good:
Bale won us the match in the first half then disappeared 2nd half
Walker seems to be finding form at long last
Lloris is trying to command his defence but they are not listening, get Kaboul & Benny in there & the 'French connection' can rule. I have faith in him.
Bad:
It's a good side we're playing & Lennon and Defoe overall contribute as little as possible. We've been here before.
Average:
The rest. All a bit meh really. Suppose we should credit the defence for holding out & Suarez didn't get much joy overall.
Dembele looked a little rusty (er... Alan Shearer did you watch the match?) but he'll come on nicely for the run out.

And we won, despite them being in good form and having long spells of strong play.

I wasn't aware Gerrard was on the pitch for the most part but Enrique was energetic and Sterling is a proto-Lennon; quick but shot-shy.

[I know, I know, Lennon scored, despite me criticising his contribution and shooting in this review!]

surprised to saw dawson getting ratings hire than gallas:ROFLMAO:

they were both total clown shoes tonight, that's one combo i hope not to see much of again

to be fair they both equally made some important challenges over 90 mins, but both equally clownish with near disasterious results

a 6 for both of them

Dempsey at least looked in the game at points, Defoe again provided no out ball and again that made it hard for us to relieve pressure.

I don't know what game Rodgers was watching tbh, 2 penalties for them? and Dempsey dived? No bias there. He can f**k off tbh, because Skrtel could have gone and also they didn't look like beating Lloris at all.

Hmmm, not sure what to make of that. Over riding emotion is relief. We seem to have similar games every single week with varying outcomes depending on a bit of luck here and there. We will have a 20 minute burst in most games where we look dangerous, bright and full of verve. If we manage to score during one of these spurts we will then, predictably, work our way further and further back to a point where we just decide to camp on the edge of our own box and hump the ball to noone(Defoe).

A win's a win and all that but it would be really nice to dictate the majority of a game and show a clear plan of what we're trying to achieve. Maybe, we're just destined to be a counter attack team. It's a risky strategy if so.

Lloris - 7 - No complaints
Walker - 7 - Much improved
Verts - 6 - Tough game against a tricky winger. Isn't quick enough in thos situations.
Dawson/Gallas - 6 - Both careless in possesssion and both had their clusterfuck moments. Our two most limited options at CB and it showed. Made their fair share of blocks and tackles but rarely looked comfortable.
Lennon - 6 - Marks for scoring. Did little else.
Bale - 8 - Worked hard and our only real threat. Imagine what we would be like if he got injured.
Dembers - 7 - Decent until visibly tiring in the 2nd half. Great tackle on Suarez. Hudd wouldn't have been there.
Sandro - 6 - Worked hard, chased a lot of shadows.
Dempsey - 5 - Ho hum. Nothing of note. Fell over more than usual.
Defoe - 5 - Virtually invisible.

Siggy - 3 - Did absolutely nothing of note.
Hudd n/A

Thought the game was crying out for Carroll to put his foot on the ball. Thought Dempsey or Lennon for Carroll would have been the move, with Dembele pushing further on. Defoe/Lennon/Bale/Dempsey = minimal ball retention when the going gets tough. Chocolate soldiers.

Anyhoo, 5th is 5th. The Premiership is really poor this year so if we get some players fit, keep Bale on song and find some form of cohesive style, there is no reason we can't compete for 3rd.

Defoe was terrible, doesn't work hard enough closing down and his movement and hold up play when we had possession was atrocious. Suarez showed what a lone striker can do despite his size...
