What's new

Realistically how long will we keep hold of him?

I wonder whether the new baby situation with him will sway it in our favour for a few years. He's a very homely sort of chap from what I can gather, and gets back down the M4 as often as he can to see his mother, and I think the situation is the same with his missus.

Not that getting back to Wales from Spain is particularly difficult, but I wonder if he'd like to bring up his daughter in the UK for at least the first few years of her life.

Fact is he's happy with us too.

Of course if Real Madrid or Barca come knocking we've had it, especially if we don't add a couple more world class players to our starting XI.

Face that bridge when we come to it though. What's the point in worrying? Players have come and gone before. That's the way this shit works.

As long as we keep going in the right direction who knows - he may not actually leave. Attempting not to be too knee-jerk after 2 wins have put us 3 points off 3rd and with Chelsea looking like imploding  - If we can finish in the Champions League places and strengthen in/by the summer and when work gets under way on the stadium proper then he might decide his future is with us. Also, as some have mentioned, he's the down-to-earth family type and might be quite happy with the stability and continuity (whilst still making £5m a year). There is precedent for that - Matthew Le Tissier for one.

Also, finally, there is the point about who can afford him and that bodes very well when you talk about him being settled with young family. Domestically, I think only ManU and the Red scum could really afford him and I just don't think they'd sanction it. Chelsea will be heamorraging money this season and, in all likelihood, have already failed FFP. Man City are not far behind and the last thing either need right now is to spend £40m on one player and pay him in the region of £200k per week. Without turning this into a finance thread - they would need to sell before they buy and it difficult to realise significant value when their most saleable players (Tevez, Aguero, Silva etc.) are on such enormous contracts (Dzeko is probably the most likely).

So abroad - don't think he'd go anywhere other than Spain or Italy. Serie A clubs are not really generating that kind of money and Barca have no recent history of paying stupid money for individual players so I'd say RM are the only candidates

Madrid will get Bale and give us Modric. A few years later, Madrid will take Sandro and give us Bale. That's how the partnership works.

I think he will stay this summer, it's impossible to think further ahead. But Levy will be looking at 50 miion plus and I don't think anyone will pay that yet, he doesn't seem to be likely to do what Modric/ Berbatov did, his agent doesn't seem to be plastered all over the papers either - so it boils down to will anyone offer what Levy wants. I do think Bale will go abroad, I remember seeing interviews where he spoke about living in different countries and experiencing different cultures and not being afraid to do so.

As long as he's willing to stay.:) Seriously, we've got to make him the highest paid player with a new contract sneaking in another year plus changing the buy out clause to 70 million pounds.

JJ said on twitter a few days ago that he is gone in the summer. Real or Barca.

Whilst I don't think he's the type to pull a Modric/Berbatov, I never thought Modric was the type to do that so who's to say how Bale will react when the time comes.

The problem these days is the amount of pushing the agents do to get the best deal financially for them. You'd think having just had a baby that he might stay about for a while. I still think his a bit raw for Real Madrid. They are a team of already established superstars. He needs a bit more time before moving there. I don't actually think he suits Barcelona's game so I'd rule them out. If we can get 2013\14 season out of him then I'd be happy. Its just been great to see these very talented players grace the Lane over the last few years and to have seen how far we have come!

Bale should deffo go to Barca if he has a choice. Much better team for him I think. He'd do well at either club, imo but Barca seems a more natural fit to my eyes. No idea why. Oh to be faced with such a plum choice.
