Same reason we never sign top players. Shaktar will ask for too much, Levy will try and low ball them. They will go back and forth until the final day of the window where we will loan a shit player as a stop gap.

It happens every time

cheer up! We're pretty fucking amazing these days.

Willian would be nice. Stranger things have happened.

If there are actual legs to this Willian story (puts on special sceptical hat) then I do hope we're simply taking advantage of the situation and haven't helped create it wrt Willian going AWOL.

Either way, it doesn't speak well of his charatcer at all and ultimately, were he to join we'd have another Berba****/Modbitch situation ourselves at some point in the future. Would be a very welcome addition of genuine quality though and in a badly needed area in the meantime.

It is cyclical in modern football tbh mate. Berbatov and Modric have done it to us, Pamarot did it to get his move to us.

Chances are with the player forcing the move that we might get him a lot easier than we would have expected. Just because some deals don't work doesn't mean Levy wont see the sense in this one if indeed the price is right.

Turning into an optimistic I think.

Then again you could be right ;)

Although id agree with that i dont think we will go for a "shit" player AVB wouldn't go for it and if Levy goes over his head and can see things turning rather sour!! theirs no point in us signing a player for the sake of it even Levy will know this if Willian isn't doable i agree it will go to the wire we will lose out as the deal will be "difficult" and go to plan b...or c i forget what we are on ;) but they will add something to the current squad.

I'm usually very cheery and get my hopes up, but this Jan window is shaping up like every other one. We start off with ITK saying "This is the best time/chance we have ever had to buy the player" then a day later its off, then its on again and then off again.

In the end we loan/buy a step down from what we need. Willian will be the same. I hope to God I am wrong and he signs, but I just can't see it.

I disagree, but more importantly than anything else is that he is a player AVB wants. If we are to judge AVB fairly we have to let him build his own team. A move for Willian is a step towards that.

said in the willian thread, the rus/ukr media dont usually send to print anything thats not over the line, they are highly scrutinised in everything that is to be published and vary rarely disclose info about their own affairs unless they can be assured of the degree of truth.

Um, yep there is that chance but the fact he has played well in the Ukraine and the UCL should give us reasonable hope that he can shine in the EPL.

Jasper on SO re Willian

Fingers crossed folks if you get my meaning ;-) No hints or no more disclosing

Just a little note on this - the post quoted above was Jasper's first (and currently only) of the day and was posted in the general transfer thread on SO, there were a few posts re Willian (plus a few about Damiao, afros and French civil servants) preceding Jasper's but it isn't entirely clear if this is the player he was actually alluding to.

Willian would be out of this world.

He would have a similar impact to Mata IMO.

It's the hope that kills you.

There will always be new targets and new players to chase. Our squad isnt so shabby as it stands. Would rather be in our position than the goons or Liverpool.

Willian in January sounds like a very expensive deal to me. Weren't they looking at 20m+ in the Summer? Plus they are still in the Champions League.

Sounds very unlikely to me.

But he has gone AWOL in Brazil now, as he is unhappy with the price tag the board have given him.

Indeed. It's crap and lame but we'll all happily live with it I guess. Better to have had Mod for 4 seasons than not.

The bastard. :shifty:
