In a poll conducted by Spanish newspaper AS, Real Madrid fans have said they would rather the club sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale over Brazilian superstar Neymar. The two have been the subject of rumours regarding moves away in the summer but it is the Welsh international Real Madrid's supporters would rather see in the Spanish capital next season.
The survey that was put to the public revealed that 93% would like to see Bale arrive in at the La Liga club compared to the 7% which Santos forward Neymar received. The Brazilian international has been linked with a move to La Liga over the past year with both Barcelona and Real Madrid interested in bringing the player over to Spain. However it been reported that Real Madrid may switch their attention to sign Bale in the next transfer window.
The Mirror claimed only last month Real Madrid would be prepared to put in a £60m offer to Tottenham Hotspur and tempt the player with a £10m a year contract. In total the package would come to a staggering £110m to tie the midfielder down to a five deal. With the Premier League side unsure whether they will make the Champions League for next season, the player may want to move to a club which can guarantee qualifying for the competition every year.
With the elections for the Real Madrid presidency just around the corner it looks like either Bale or Neymar will be used to get Florentino Perez another term at the club. The promise of signing a marquee player in the summer is a tactic that has been used frequently over the years and the likelihood is that the two players will be used by Perez. In 2009 Perez used the promise of signing Ronaldo from Manchester United and Kaka from Ac Milan to get him voted in as the new president.
We've mentioned before how the presidential elections will disrupt Bale this summer and with fans doing the voting, their clear desire for Gareth Bale is just going to make that worse.
