i think hes quality. and hes only 22. i dont think people realise how good.
his stats are up there. hes got it all.
i know a lot of villa fans are slagging him off now for handing in request but actually hes a good lad.
i thought his agent was/is a decent bloke too.

I agree with you entirely. He's a quality player and the fact that he's only 22 is probably the reason why we are entertaining this given the size of the fee for him is likely to be very big. If he were in his late twenties Levy wouldn't be touching this.

I hope we can reach an agreement but respect the fact that Villa don't want to sell and have every right to put a large price on his head. Its their prerogative and a high asking price is designed to be a deterrent in any case.

Personally I think 20-22 million with some add ons and a sell on clause of some description is reasonable.

he will say the lads had his head turned. and we all know what goes on behind a clubs back whether right or wrong.
he will say that there has been no offer.

Assuming there isn't one before Thursday afternoon that is.

Another thing, I would of thought if we have spoke to the Benteke camp and then the subsequent transfer request came...well putting two and two together etc...you would think Benteke wouldn't of done that if we didn't intend to put a serious bid in for him. Of course he could be banking on other Clubs but it seems like his first choice is Spurs.

In other words if we encouraged him to do so, and offer will surely be forthcoming. I'm not sure if you're implying you don't expect an offer to materialise at all?

Edit: ignore last bit Journo...just read your post above (y)

Would Baldini not be doing the negotiating, seems to be why we hired him?

Probably but Levy pays the bills so i am sure Baldini is under strict orders from Levy how far he can bid up to and that Levy is consulted every step of the way

I'm pretty sure he'll still be a Villa player by the weekend - but then equally I am pretty sure Villa's deadline for a deal to be done will not mean shit by the end of the window

I don't think it will be done by the weekend either but there is no way this will drag until the end of August. Villa will need some time to adjust and carry out their own plans.

In fact if it drags I think Villa will drag their heals even further, don't think they'll be bullied at all. Much better to sort it out in a reasonable time frame like they've stated.

"We have not received any bids" is a standard bit of misdirection that clubs who are trying to keep a player use, when they are heavily involved in negotiations over selling the player, but don't want their fans (or the public) to get into a frenzy over it. It is meant to convince the inattentive that there has been no contact and that no negotiations are underway, but saying "we have not received any bids" nearly always means "but we have discussed just about everything else".

A potential buyer would only want to submit a formal bid in advance of a detailed negotiation if the potential selling club had refused to speak to them at all - and they wanted to use a formal bid to provoke the player and his agent, provoke the press and provoke the fans.

Villa themselves have said that he won't be moving if the deal isn't sorted by the end of their preseason schedule. Whether that preseason schedule means right up until the first game, I don't know? My guess is that they mean after their final preseason game is finished, so is the chances of him leaving before the end of the window.

Whatever it is mate....I don't see there being Levy time on this one. I think it will be sorted within the next two weeks.

What Journo' says may be true and we haven't made a "bid" but that doesn't mean we aren't negotiating about what official bid to make, clearly if he is giving options then so are Villa.
Is that right Journalist?

Edit: Actually what davidmatzdorf said only in more detail, didn't notice it before I posted.

Yep I'm with you 100%. I have a feeling it'll happen very soon indeed, maybe even this week. Don't know why, just a feeling.

This guy is a reliable source on Belgian players.

About the Christian #Benteke and #Anzhi rumours. He already rejected the Russians weeks ago. He's only interested in #THFC. #AVFC

@HLNinEngeland but what if Spurs doesnt pay up and only Anzhi gets a bid accepted and he has to chose between them and #avfc ?

Kristof Terreur@HLNinEngeland
@Chrsmo Then he'll be still pushing for Spurs, I guess. Or Stay.
